Chapter 1 Farie Child

Little silk wings floated around me, careful not to wake the small cat sleeping next to me. They could be so bothersome when I'm trying to mend the their clothes, but I have always enjoyed their company since I was little. Even now, I wouldn't have them gone. The countryside doesn't have many children around anymore, and cause of my odd looks, and behavior, I was rejected by the others kids when I was younger. I was the farie child.

I finished the little, pair of pants I was working on, and looked out past the orchid, it was nearing sunset. I knew better than to be out past sun down. I packed up my stuff and placed the little, sleeping, kitten in my basket, and stood up. the little creatures that were encircling me, wanted to play more. But I had to go, I gave a small bow goodbye to my friends, and started down the hill towards home. I still had to collect carrots, for mother, for tonight's dinner.

The elves of the oak were at it again, making such a huge fuss in the forest that I couldn't sleep. I couldn't really blame them it was nearing mid-summer. I awoke to a small cat leaping through my room then crashing into my stomach, her sharp claws pircing my belly. Awake, I slowly moved over to my mirror and grabed my brush. My long, red hair was in tangles, and knots, eventually I was able to tame the mess and make two, neat, braids both pulled up into buns with a little help from the flower pot in my window, wich had unusualy long vines with little finger like flowers. I thanked it, and went into the kichen for a glass of water, brought it back to my room, and the flowers were happy with their breakfast. Maybe if I find some worms in the garden today I'd bring them back for them.

The morning routine was slow, the cows didn't want to be milked and chickens were refusing to hold still while I fed them. The sheep had broken the fence during the night from fear of the elves, who may have needed a sacrifice for the moon ritual, but no sheep were missing, and I'd tell father later that the sheep might need extra protection in the nights to come. I nailed back up the old wooden fence and headed to the garden for weeding. The vegtible garden was pretty bad with morning glories but I shooed them back to the wall were they joined the others. But the little herb garden was not as bad with just a few with were still sleepy but with a little cooeing they picked up their roots and slowly moved into bursh of the others that had made my bedroom wall their home along with a wild rose bush on the far north side, said my good mornings to them all and bowed, then headed into the kitchen to prepare the potatos for breakfast.

I went back to the north pasture to check on the cows, we were one of the richest families in the area but we still kept a simple life. Grandfather had told me before he past away "If you settle for plesures now you will have nothing later" both mother and father lived like this too, I loved this life and hope it will never change. When I marry, if anyone would want to marry me, I wish I could inheiret this farm, but it will go to my older brother, Kailen , who works in the city, when mother and father pass.

Heartnet, my cat was chasing butterflies by my feet while I sat on the fence watching the cows graze. I had just noticed the one of my buns was coming lose, I was too tired to redo my hair, so I pulled it all down letting it enjoy the midsummer breeze. Somthing caught my eye in the forest beyond, something bigger than a normal tree sprit. I got off the fenced and bowed in respect, I had picked up bowing when I was a child. The little fae used to do it to the older trees and spirits. I naturally got the habit of it too.

It was late after noon when I returned to the hill of the fae, they were waitng for me. I pulled out my needle and tread from my basket, wich I picked up from the house, and set to work on a shirt made from moss. I would have to collect more string soon, my spiders tread was running out. I told the little winged imps around me, and a few dashed into the forest. Heartnet jumped around, trying to catch the small translusent things, as they glided about, getting tangled in my hair, and sitting on my hands to watch me work. I noticed that some of the girls dresses were starting to wither, and since the mid summer dance was soon I would ask the rose bush to spare some of its petals tonight, so I could surprise them tomarrow, also if I had enough left of the spiders tread then I could weave little shawls, along with basil hats, they would be so cute.

The roses were reluctant but I promiced that I would give them fresh manure in the morning if I could have the largest, most colorful petals on it's brush. And the basil was happy to comply it was getting full and needed new buds, but the morning glories were jeleous that I was taking petals and leaves fron the herbs and roses but not them. So now I can make small indigo and lavender bags for all of the faries I worked all night listining to the elves run amuck, but tonight they wielded flutes and drums. Soon I was lured into a subconsince sleep I would have stayed that way happily forever untill I pricked myself. Stunned awake I looked down at the tiny droplet of blood on my finger then up to the mysterious figure in my room.

Chapter 2 Farie Song

It glowed softly with moonlight streaming through the window it took my hand and gently kissed my finger the blood was gone along with the pain I looked back up to the being, I felt like I had seen it somwhere before, but couldn't remember, like a dream, a childhood dream. It slowly sat down on my bed and put it's hand to my face. It's touch was warm but chilled at the finger tips. It leaned in and kissed my forehead then was gone. I didn't know what to do but take up my sewing again.

Awoken once again by a small mound of fur the sun had barly come to greet the earth my arms were cold from not fully getting under the covers last night little rose dresses were layed out on the bed with basil hats on the floor. I had fallen asleep working, and I had to hurry and clean up before mother came in she never liked the fact that I was so closely linked to the fae neither did the rest of my family they blamed our ancestors for what they did to me I'd ask them what their talking about but I'd always get some weird answer like I'm too young or I'm not mature enough to handle it. Soon I'll be sixteen of marrying age then they'll tell me.

The cows were wary around me today same with all the other animals; like I was some kind of Banchee. but the plants in the garden were fine, and like I promised, I brought manure for the roses, along with fresh water for everyone. they all enjoyed it. they all seemed to be humming a plesant tune so I joined along. I didn't know the words but the tune was plesant, but familar, then again, alot of strange things seemed familar latley. I went about the rest of the day humming the strange tune untill grandmother herd me then asked me what i was doing itold her I was humming nature's tune she gave me a look of fear and anger so I didn't humm or say anything else ffor the rest of the day.

I went back to the northern pasture later that afternoon before I went to go to the hill I once again saw the spirit in the far woods maybe that was my late night visiter, I was headed to the hill with my basket when mother called me I knew it was somthing bad by the sound of her voice so I gave the basket to the nearest tree and asked hem if he could get it to my friends but before I left for the house Heartnet jumped out of the basket and was charging after me.

My family was all gathered in the parlor waiting for me I sat down by the fireplace when Father began he told everyone that by next month I would be able to marry but since thae lack of youth around here would make it a problem then gandmother spoke she never took her eyes off my when she asked me to hm the tune from earlier I seemed surprised she hated when I sang or hummed songs from the fae or nature it took me a minute and with a little help from the lavender by the window the song slowly went through my head and in turn I started hum a little solom at first then the plants around teh house joined and it became a cheery song that filled the house then the gardens and trees joined the whole farm seemed to filled with a warm festive the song ended in the house but the trees and spirits knew the rest of the song so the vally was still left singing when the song finally ended I opened the my eyes to find my family staring at me.

I was sent to bed early just to be kept up by the arguing of my family I tried to comfort myself with counting the stars I could see outside my window but the hatred seeped imto my mind and I lost focus nothing was stopping the bickering they went on for so long "was I really that much of a freak to my family? was I that hated? why couldn't they understand what the spirits ment to me and all they had done for me?" I hadn't realised that I had been crying for some time now and when a warm hand rested on head, I knew it was back, my spirit from the northern forests beyond. I wanted it to take me into the forests, where I would't have to deal with the disgust and judgmental stares.

My mother woke me up, before the sun had a chance to, and told me to get my things. Father then carried a large suitcase into my room and opened it on the floor. Mother already had an arm full of my clothes and was arranging them in so they all fitted. I quickly got up, confused to what was going on, mother threw me a simple outfit of a sky blue dress with a grass green vest and shoes. Father went out of the room to go get things from the kitchen, I and after slipping on my dress and vest, while I was getting my shoes on, I accedently bumped into my basket. I checked inside just to see a sleepy kitten and three fresh spools of spiders thread. I'm glad they liked their gifts.

When I was finally was corherant enough to ask my mother what was going on she told me that the argument last night was about weither or not I should go live with my brother in the city from now or not. You could guess which one, won. my mind went blank I wanted to sceam and shout and cry but I just sat down on my bed dumbfounded. My friends and my happiness here were gone to be sent away to be bound by large stone walls, iron gates, no forests or hills , no freedom.

By before noon all my stuff was packed mother and father both agreed that it wasn't safe for me to take any of my plants or herbs. I quickly did a once around of the farm before they had all of it packed into the cart I strayed a little at the north pasture the sunlight softly filled the field with a warm light the cows quietly grazed near the fence. The forest beyond was quiet and still i looked behind me they still had a dresser to get loaded up and a few other small things.

I quickly jumped the fence and started for the other side I had to pick up my skirts to go faster by the time was at the otherside they were already tossing in the last of my things and I could hear mother's wailing I looked back to the forest and said in a small voice "goodbye" then turned and walked a few steps forward before looking back one last time seeing the spirits awaken from their earthen encasements to see what had spoken. In a wisper under my breath I finally said "forever" then tuned and ran all the way to the fence hopped back over and continued running till I reached the cart; never to look back.

Chaprter 3 Farie Travels

The ride was long and rough I had to continually hold my suff down from falling out, but then my father had to hold me down so I didn't fall off either. I could feel the city, before I saw it, everything seemed so hurried, nothing was slow. As we came closer to the gates that would lock up my life forever, like a prison, traffic became busier. I tied a scarf around my head to hide myself, I hated being in public I always got odd stares.

City life is so fast it dosn't seem to live at all, just move. The streets were filled with shops and people, all of whom I didn't want to have any eye contact with. I watched the cobbled road pass by under my feet that were hanging off the rear end of the cart, I could hear everything and nothing, as we moved through the streets to my brother's house. The cart stopped, and I looked up. We were on a narrow street packed with people. I heard my brother's voice at the front of the cart along with father's who had gotten off the cart when we stopped.

I stood up and streached. I herd some girls giggle and looked in that direction, a small group of girls around my age were sitting at a table across the street from the cart. A few were pointing at me, I looked to see what they were laughing at then I noticed my plain blue dress's skirts were dirty from travel and a lot longer and duller than their bright, colorful, shorter, skirts. Quickly enough their laughing stopped, and they all blushed bright, red, and looked down. "Don't mind them." Came a deep, familar voice. I turned around to see Kailen right behind me. "Brother!" I shouted so he could hear my small voice over the noise of the crowd.

My brother was a charming, young man thick, dark, brown, hair with golden highlights; Deep blue eyes; And a tall build. He snatched up my scaf from my head and waved it above me just like he used to when we were little. "Still hiding, I see." But I was able to stand on the cart and get hold of my scarf, so now it was a game of tug of war. Right when brother was about to tickle me to let go, father yelled at the both of us. We both stood up strait and still while father told us to, grab what we could, and head to my new room.

There was a small window on the left wall, showing the street below, I had a second floor room. It was a first for me to be up so high and not be in a tree. "Orla," Called Kailen. "Coming." I said back, I rushed after him through the door and down the stairs, tripping on my skirts the whole way down. Warren sighed at my desent after him, then mumbled something about someone named Drake. It was a little after nightfall when father left, I had already said my goodbyes earlier when all of my stuff had been unpacked, which went much faster than packing it this morning. But father insisted on talking to my brother about something private downstairs. So I was left to tidy up my things alone, it seemed so bare without the plant in the windowsill or the other flowers and herbs outside.

As I was moving my old trunk to the end of my bed I felt something rustling from within. I opened the lid to find a small tired, hungry, upset, little kitten by the name of Heartnet. who was soon not so hungry or upset after a small bowl of milk and crakers leftover from the trip. I had planned on leving Heartnet a home cause I was afraid he'd get lost in the city or worse but now since father had already left he was as much stuck here in this busy stone cage as I was .

Chapter 4 Farie guest

I hardly slept from the niose of the city it was louder than any of the Oak elve's celebrations. I sat on my bed thinking what I would of done back on the farm today, about the hill, and the pastures, about my secret guest who'd come and comfort me, then I thought back to the time it touched my face that warm hand even if it had icy fingertips. And the smooth cool lips on my forehead. I awoke from my daydream with my cheeks a deep rouge, when I heard a crash from down stairs I heard my brother run down the stairs cursing, then yelling, once he got to the bottom apparently he knew the person and hadn't planned them coming over. I slowly moved over to the door turned the handle and sat at the top of the stairs.

"Drake you ditz why are you here so late?" wisperd my brother

"It's all over the distrct that you have some country beauty staying here. called Drake

"She's my sister! Drake, go home"

"Can I at least see her?"

"NO! She's asleep now, and I don't want some complete fool like you around my sister!"

"Come on, with all the noise we've been making she's bound to be awake by now."

"But your still a fool."

"And a handsome one at that, thank you."

"You can see her in the morning Drake, GO HOME!"

At that my brother started to come back to the stairs I tried to get up but was too slow with my night gown tripping up my feet. My brother saw me before I could even stand up "Orla!?" he scolded. I was in trouble, but worse, Drake can dashing to the bottom of the stairs and before my brother could stop him he saw me. I was in my room before I knew it. There was more arguing downstairs the front door opened then closed. then I heard my brother open my door he was really mad.

Kailen glared at me through the doorway he was upset that I had easedropped on him and his friend. I sat curled up on my bed with my head resting on my knees, awaiting my punishment, but then he relaxed, smiled, and said "You haven't changed a bit." After, he closed the door, telling me to get some sleep, as he headed back into his room. "What does he mean I haven't changed a bit? I've grown at least an inch since we last saw each other " I huffed clearly upset by his words.
