They were rescued from next door. The tenants there were evicted and they were abandoned. The owner of the property gave us the kittens. When we got them, they were all skin and bone, had fleas, and had bad eye discharge. The smaller one, Gizmo, still has some kind of sinus/respiratory problem and eye discarge... They are going to the vet on tuesday. We have had them for about a week now. They are getting much better. They are now very playful, their bones are becoming harder to feel. They are gaining weight at a healthy pace. Here is Gizmo when we first got her: Here is Boots when we first got him: We have taken more recent pictures, but I haven't uploaded them to photobucket yet. I'll post them when I have. smile

Yep. They went to the Vets earlier this week. They both have feline lukemia... they both are on an anti-biotic and are doing a lot better now that they have been on it for a couple days. smile Gizmo is extremely playful and Boots is kinda layed back.

They are now healty. smile Boots and Gizmo have grown a lot. I will post updated pictures hopefully soon. smile Boots just got declawed and neutered. He's hating the cone that he has to wear to prevent him from licking his feet. He also seems to miss Gizmo, and Gizmo seems to miss him. Gizmo will be getting declawed in January. I'll be sure to post updated pictures of them once I upload them. smile

They are much bigger now. biggrin Gizmo will be getting declawed in January I think. They also will be retested in January or February for feline lukemia. Hopefully their immune systems have gotten rid of it, or it was a false positive (the vet said there is a small chance of a false positive). I'll post some updated pictures of them soon. biggrin
I found two kittens a few months ago. One's a male, the other's a female. The male one went to my grandfather, and I got to keep the female one. biggrin They were only 3 weeks old when we found them. They were in the woods, and the mother was nowhere to be found, and as loud as the kittens were meowing, the mother would have come if she was going to. I'll post pictures of them soon. biggrin Probably tomorrow. The female one's name is Charcoal, and the male one's name is Simba. biggrin We couldn't afford to take them to the vet's. We will be taking Charcoal to the vet's in a couple months. We are keeping Charcoal's interaction with Gizmo and Boots to a minimum as a result of Gizmo and Boots having Lukemia and not knowing if she has lukemia or not. If she doesn't, we don't want to risk her getting it. We are introducing her to Gizmo and Boots. Boots is fully accepting of her and is friendly towards her. Gizmo is getting used to her, still. She's still hissing at her and growling at her a little bit, but not as much as she used to. Charcoal will also be getting declawed, and I'm thinking about spaying her. All three of them will be strictly indoor cats. smile

I hope it was a false positive. I have never heard of a cat recovering from feline leukemia, it is a live long illness. But they can live very long and healthy lives with it.
Be warned though, when the end comes it will likely be quick and ugly. All the cats I ever had die of it where fine then suddenly had diarrhea and lost lots of weight and died in a 2 or 3 day period.
I do not want to upset you, I am only mentioning it because it is best to be prepared for it. Like I said though, it will be years before you have to worry about that.

I hope so too.
The information sheet the vet gave us on FLV said that a small percentage of cats that have it will recover from it, but not many do.
I hope Charcoal does not have it.
Thanks for letting me know about that.

11 Cardinal 11 Declawing is an evil practice. gonk Don't do it. gonk The vet suggested we get them declawed because of their having lukemia so that they don't scratch each other and give each other infections. Gizmo scratched Boots in the eyes numerous times, and kept on ending up getting him on antibiotics every time... Having to have them on antibiotics all the time because they scratch each other like that is probably not good for the cats, and is also quite expensive... It is the only reason we are getting it done, had they been perfectly healthy, without the lukemia, they wouldn't be getting declawed.
