Am i the only one who finds the new HIM album more than a little disapointing, i mean after waiting so long for there 5th orignal album they come off with dark light, im not saying its a terrible album but nor am i saying its all that good, HIM seem to have lost there way, the dosent have the balance between rock and softness that the others did and they seem to have stuck to the same formula for most of the songs. They also seem to have lost the creativity and mix between a love song and a darker heavyer song that drew me them in the first place and are now putting out and album were all the songs nearly all the songs are lacking any heavyness and they dont have any of the brillainly deep and dark lyrics from previous albums dont get me wrong but the album has a couple of redeming songs but apart from those the album sounds all quite simalar and it seems to me more like HIM are becoming a fasion trend, what with the endless suply of heartagram covered shoes, hats, skateboards... you name it you can get a heartagram on it what does everyone else think, am i alone in my opinions??

Well if you're the only one, that's okay, it's YOUR opinion. I don't HATE Dark Light, I love quite a few of the songs, but it's not the best album, yes. (This is all my opinion, I'm just clearing that up.) But after four whole albums that were all written by Ville, (Except for Don't Fear the Reaper and Wicked Game) you really can't blame him for the lack of creation, and the same goes for the music itself, after four other albums of creatvity, can soemone REALLY pull off another near-perfect album without copying their old material, or copying other's music. and as for the Heartagram merchandise, I believe that's due to BAM being so popular and using that symbol, many of the kids at my school at least, love BAM, and they have no idea who HIM are, they are constantly asking, "What does HIM have to do with BAM's symbol?"

When they enver even heard of them...It's sad these days how ignorent kids my age these days are, I'm just glad I'm not like that....

Okay first off. HIM doesn't have 100% control over all their merchandising. They do have to have lives you know. I don't think you should really blame them for heartagrams being everywhere. I think alot of people are just disapointed that their little Finnish band that hardly anyone heard of is now going mainstream, and they don't want HIM to be famous. Hey, I'm in the same boat. I don't want HIM to be famous like alot of other bands. I can't afford eighty dollar tickets to their concerts. But it doesn't mean I'm going to stop liking HIM. And as for Dark Light, if you get mad they didn't make a "perfect" breathtaking/whatever album compared to their other albums, and you think they're all about image and whatever, that's a tiny bit unfair. You know bands want to make it big in America. That's usually their goal. But sometimes I think alot of HIM fans just want HIM to be their little secret, but it doesn't work that way. As for the stupid Bam fans, deal with it. I'm a proud Bam fan. I don't like the word "Bamtard" or people just going "oh those Bam fans" and then when I get mad, I hear "Oh I'm a Bam fan too!" Well, make that a TINY bit more clear next time, okay? I happen to like Dark Light. I happen to like everything that HIM's ever done. And yes, I happen to think Ville is a very gorgeous man. (Seeing as how I've seen HIM live in concert twice and my best friend met him, I can say that he is very gorgeous in person.)
Okay I'm not trying to be mean or anything. I understand you guys have your own opinions, I just hate to see HIM fans get mad over things like this! Hey, we're suppose to love/support our band. One not-perfect album and everyone's ready to boycott. Yeah, every band has poser fans. We have to deal and educate people!
Love you guys.

As I said in my post, I wasn't really happy to see them in America, due to the posers who "think" that they have it bad, and then say that a certain song fits them. (For example, it was hard for me to stomach the masses of kids at my school saying that Green Day's "Blvd. of Broken Dreams" relates to them in every way, and these are the kids who only liked Green Day after American Idiot, and are the most popular and rich. It's just sickening how we Americans are these days. neutral ) I don't want to see the same thing happen to HIM, not that I think they will, but I still don't want it to happen, it was sad to see one of my favorite bands go right down the toilet, and I don't want to see it happen to one I love even more...

You're not alone. I certainly was dissapointed. But not so much so to take back my cd, even though I should have to keep my account from getting overdrawn that time... uh.. that's another story. I was dissapointed, yes. It really grew on me, and I felt a bit better about it when I spoke to my friend about it. He's been listening to HIM since before they had an album out in the US. He said I should understand it, since for one thing, it's a completely different style from what they usually do. It's not going to be perfect. Also, yeh it's been 5 albums now. Things tend to wane. I wouldn't call it a terrible album. Love Metal is still thier best. But considering every album has been different, I wouldn't be too hard on Dark Light. And as far as the darker lyrics go... I miss them too. But I heard Ville himself say, ""There's so much love in my life right now. I'm having trouble being a miserable poet". Being a poet myself, I completely understand where he's coming from. It's diffeicult to write about misery and death when you're so full of love and happiness.
And I'm among you who really don't want HIM to be so.... mainstream and famous. I don't want every kid on the block to know who they are. I liked it better when HIM was my dirty little secret. I like having people look at me funny when I say I'm listening to HIM. ("Him who?") haha. I'm especially upset when I encounter a HIM 'fan', who has only heard "Wings of a butterfly" or who only owns Dark Light. I shake my head at them and walk away. I wish HIM had gotten famous with love metal or something instead of Dark Light. It would make me feel better about the fans I meet. I mean, really now. I took a supposed "HIM fan" to a concert on nov. 12th. And she didn't even recognize the beginning to The Sacrament! What is THAT?! How do you miss that? And she said she had Love metal... rolleyes
The only thing I hope is that the next album redeems the band. If it's another like Dark Light... I think i'll be dissapointed in the band as a whole. For now, I'm cutting slack. I understand a sub-par album every now and again. And with 4 others that totally rock, why should we complain? I like Dark Light. I love the others. That's the distinction I'll make for now.

I know music if universal and everyone can listen to what they want and whatever... but she has no right to! She tries to pretend she can relate to HIM and The Used, and AFI and all that. Bull ******** s**t! Sorry for my language. I'm still pretty angry with her. For alot of things. But I know what you mean. I would feel alot better if the new fans I'm meeting were legitimate, you know? Now it's "cool" to like HIM. And heartagrams are everywhere. I think I'm only just now begining to understand it. Before now, if I ran into someone wearing the heartagram, they'd known about the band forever and loved the music and never professed to relate, even though they did. I'm sure most of you know what I mean. Lately... within the last few months... it's all about dark light and "oh.. all my friends like HIM so I do too and I relate cuz life is sooooooo dark and bad.... *angst angst*" I'm actually shocked! I wear the heartagram. I have gloves I got at the concert I went to. And a hat. But now I feel weird wearing them. I still do, but it's different now. Now I feel like one of the masses, another one trying to fit in instead of someone who just loves music. I can't stand it!

I can't **stand** when people are like "Doesn't that HIM band make you depressed?" ... No actually HIM makes me HAPPY when I listen to them. I view each song as a story, as tales Ville is helping me imagine through his music. So it's not all flowers and happiness, life isn't all dandy every second either. I relate to the music, and I enjoy the story. It makes me happy. I don't listen to HIM in the dark 24/7 sobbing about how my life is horrible and hurting myself. I love to listen to HIM in the sunshine, in my car, thinking about how life has been so good to me lately. I don't feel like one of the masses. I know I was a HIM fan before all this "popular" thing happened. And as long as I feel and remain true to myself, I don't have a problem.
