Physical Description: About as normal as you can get and proud of it, Miah prides herself in her tanned skin, dark hair and dark eyes. Her hair reaches just below her shoulders in a gentle wave, though it is rarely left to its own devices. She frequently braids it or ties it up so it will stay out of her way while she works. Cleanliness is quite high on her list of all that is good in the world, and thus she always makes sure to look neat at the very least when she leaves her room in the morning. If she has time she even makes pit stops during the day to make sure that she's looking her best. She's hovering around that age where girls make the transition to women, but she seems to only be growing taller rather than filling out. So far she doesn't appear to be too put out by that fact, and refuses to wear anything that doesn't confirm her femininity.
Personality: Miah is her mother's daughter through and through. Being the only girl has not turned her into some dimglowed wannabe boy – the thought!- but has instead brought her closer than ever to the only female figure in her life. She prides herself in being very "lady-like", always aware of the social boundaries and rarely, if ever, putting a single toe out of line. Because she can do it and do it well, she has no qualms about expecting the same from others around her. She is quick to criticize those who she thinks are behaving like herdbeasts rather than humans and even quicker to tattle on those who are misbehaving. If ever there was a girl you didn't want to catch you doing something you weren't supposed to, Miah would be that girl. She is less likely, however, to sell out her fellow girl if they can provide an explanation that she deems sufficient. The boys, however, are out of luck.
She has inherited much of her mother's opinionated views, and waggles her finger at anything she deems unconventional or against tradition. Men are meant to marry women, produce children, and live perfectly happy normal lives. The Weyrs are just asking for disaster by allowing women to go to bed with women, and even worse, men to bed with men. And all of this jumping between to get rid of children! Weyrs are clearly a den of vice and she's not afraid to tell anyone that asks her either. As the star pupil so to speak of her mother and the only girl in her family, she has had a great deal of practice lording over other people. It would be rather unfair to call her a leader, since tyrant or dictator might be a better fit, but she is extremely bossy. Anyone who never wishes to make a decision again should befriend Miah, as she will make sure to keep your life in line for you. Structure and discipline are the keys to success!
Having grown up under the careful tutelage of her mother, she is good at following orders and finishing what is put before her. Her mother has instilled in her a great sense of responsibility, and if Miah has given someone her word she will see it through no matter how much she dislikes said person. Being only fourteen she is still rather impressionable, and will struggle at the Weyr between what she believes is Good and Right and the life that the Weyrfolk seem to be enjoying.
History: Growing up in a traditional style family with traditionalistic parents isn't exactly the most exciting adventure ever but that is where Miah was born just the same. She was the second child of four and the only daughter, a fact that left her in the hands of her very capable mother. Though she learned all her lessons from the Hold's Harper, she learned her real life lessons from her mother, who instructed her daily on everything from behaviour to how to spot a gay man within a dragonlength radius. All of these things she studied hard, harder even than her Teaching Ballads, and began her journey down the path of the Good and the Right that all people like her mother and her mother's small group of friends travelled.
It is safe to say that nothing extraordinary happened to Miah until she was fourteen, when several riders arrived at her Hold looking for potential candidates. After a strict lecture from her mother on the vices that had taken hold of the Weyr, she was allowed to accompany the rider that had chosen her back to Ista Weyr. There she joined the ranks of the rest of the candidates, determined to do as her mother would have done in this situation and help the Weyr "see the light."
