I was reading about the Orphan movie controversy and found this: Quote: Somebody, somewhere is always just waiting to be offended. Like a harmless cyst that transforms into cancer, Political Correctness has turned into censorship and created the Speech Police. This is the price we pay for bowing to special interest groups, etc. Everyone needs to grow the f*ck up and get over themselves. There is nothing sooo special about you that you should be treated better than anyone else. Should movies be allowed to say words such as "f**"? As Americans(well most of us are), we're given the right to freedom of speech. True, my example is rude but does being rude give someone the right to say you're not allowed to use that word?

People curse more in rl then in any movie ever made, so I have to say yes. Even though I hate words such as that, if you're not saying it AT anybody in particular I don't see anything wrong.

What if they do say it to someone? Do you think someone would have the right to sue just because someone said something hurtful?

I hate PCness but I also hate pointless vulgarity or misuse of words like f** and gay. Orphan is an entirely different issue and the controversy isn't about words or terms but about the idea that a parent less child at an older age has severe psychiatric problems that prevent them from being adopted. I totally disagree with that, but it does make for an interesting movie. With that being said I don't think this is a PC issue just more of a stereotype issue.
BTW I will see this movie and I bet I will like it >D

...... There are ratings. If you're politically incorrect, your rating is going to be higher. That's enough. No more is needed.
...... My sister is politically incorrect on purpose. She spams insensitive terms like a madwoman, around the people who would take offense from it. And they all know she's playing around, so they don't get angry. confused

This. Seriously.
Note that not all countries even HAVE all these issues with political correctness. Heck, even in a socialist country, where one might expect it, you can have this:
"Yeah, well, Hollywood's ******** up right now. Oh, s**t, I'm not allowed to say that on television, am I?" "Oh, that's okay, you're on Norwegian television, you don't need to worry about censorship here." "Really? s**t."
They're words. Education is one thing ("Hey, guys, 'gay' is a really stupid insult to use, it makes you sound like an intolerant buffoon."), telling people what words they can and cannot use is another thing entirely.

[/song no one will know but is relevant] I agree with Val's post. Not deliberately offending people is one thing. Being PC...is something else, and worse. stare

There is nothing wrong with being PC it's just when people over do it or are not being PC to start something.

Political Correctness is a mixed issue. For one it's a means for further control of the not so free speech. However for two, to a point, political correctness is needed. Just.. not to the extent that it is being pushed. What most people don't see is that it isn't the words or ideas themselves that are bad, it is the context they're used or presented, the emotion or intent behind them that makes them hurtful or not.
