When I think of Oregon, I think of rainy months and evergreen trees. I think of recycling and people riding their bike to work. What do you think of as typical Oregon?

GREEN. I think it's a very nice place to die. xD I mean..to..retire..It's really peaceful. smile Especially in the northwest.
This guild is so dead..>__>; But I'm glad there's people here once in a while.

yeah. it is kinda dead. I tried starting a bunch of new threads and not much has happened with that. I think of Yachats when I think of places where people go to die/retire.
They don't have a neurology department down there. No cardiology there either. you have to travel for awhile before you can find a hospital that has those departments on the coast.

I think mostly of what the OP said. Evergreen trees and rain. There ain't much else that's typically Oregon. What exactly is our claim to fame, other than having no sales tax and a mostly unpopulated state filled with lots of nature?

I think of rubber neckers. The people that come to a complete stop on the freeway to look at a car parked in the emergency lane. Quite frankly it's ridiculous.

I think of the coast, and the mountains, all within easy driving distance from many of the major cities.
Plus, Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States. (You can thank 4th grade geography for that little bit of info).

I think of fur trees and ferns, rain and cloudy days, and the broad variety of natural regions our state contains. Foggy coastlines, red soiled mountains, willamette valley flatland, eastern oregon deserts. Shoot with a little bit of geographical knowledge it's easy to sample nearly every type of terrain you can think of. I heart Oregon! whee

What exactly is our claim to fame, other than having no sales tax and a mostly unpopulated state filled with lots of nature? Well as McFano said, we do have the deepest lake in the US. It's even on our state quarter. And we have the Oregon Vortex. And Wild Life Safari. Except it's not as cool as when I was little. They stopped doing the elephant rides and the whole "take your photo with a cheetah or Lion" thing. I guess animal rights activists said it was cruel. The elephant thing I can kinda see I guess...

Alright, alright. Crater Lake wins something. Wild Life Safari isn't special! biggrin What on Earth is the "Oregon Vortex?"

Now I know I need to visit the Oregon Vortex. I didn't know about it until now... And Wildlife Safari isn't special because they took away all of the fun stuff. Now its just like any old zoo. :/
