Well, that could have gone better. Alambri made a mental note to remember that when one of the kitchen workers told him that no, he couldn't have one of the small meat pies that was on the tray, and that he needed to come back closer to mealtime, they actually meant it. And would back up their position with a spoon, if needed. He'd never considered spoons to be terribly threatening before- after all, his family tended to wave hammers or hot metal about for emphasis, and spoons seemed fairly tame in comparison- but goodness, some of those women could swing. Maybe they should consider smithing as a viable career option.
Still hungry and rubbing a bruise on the back of his hand, Alambri meandered down the hall, somewhat at a loss for what to do with himself. Clearly he wasn't welcome in the kitchens just then, but he didn't really have anywhere else he wanted to be. And he was a little bored, and a little lonely, and that was never a good combination.
Only one option then, really, he thought to himself. Find somebody to bother. He contemplated going to the dining hall- there were usually people there- but he didn't want to take the chance that someone from the kitchen would spot him and go after him with another spoon. Somewhere else, then, somewhere else...
Without any particular destination in mind, he made his way through the halls, waiting for opportunity to strike.

Koios had actually had a little better luck than Alambri had, and emerged from a random room with an actually decent half-loaf of bread. Unfortunately, his luck ended in that he emerged right as the other was passing by, and in an effort not to crash into him the Candidate flailed and stumbled a bit before finishing off his graceful maneuver with a dignified landing - landing on his rump on the ground.
But he'd managed to save his bread! So the whole thing wasn't terrible. It would be if he dropped his bread. ...he'd probably still eat it, considering the condition of the food being fed to the Weyr at large.
"Umm, hi there," he said rather sheepishly as a half-smile alighted his features, and he managed to get up one-handed, flailing his occupied hand only slightly in the process. "Sorry about that, I didn't see you. I hope I didn't hit you or anything?" Shards, that would have been so embarassing, not that what he'd just accomplished hadn't been. Hitting someone while trying to avoid them, ugh. He'd done worse things, though. Oh well, best not to think about any of that. "My name's Koios, by the way. What's yours?"

And there was his opportunity, right on time. Excellent. Alambri gave Koios a wide smile, and shook his head. "No, no harm done. Excellent form, by the way. I'm Alambri. Glad to meet you, Koios." While there was certainly a note of teasing in his voice, there was certainly no malice, and his tone was warm and open. He looked him over, trying to decide if they'd crossed paths before- he was fairly sure Koios was another Candidate, but he wasn't sure they'd ever gotten around to talking.
Wide smile still in place, Alambri glanced at what Koios was holding, and chuckled. "You had better luck in the kitchens than I did, I take it. I got chased out by a very angry woman with a spoon. A spoon, of all undignified things! Can you imagine?" Of course, it was very likely that Koios could, in fact, imagine. He couldn't be the only one around that ever got chased out of the kitchens, surely it occasionally happened even to the luckier ones. "Heading anywhere in particular?" he asked, bobbing on the balls of his feet somewhat. He'd been bored, and now he wasn't, and that tended to bring about an excess of energy.

Well good, he hadn't hit him, so luck was on his side. Obviously, since he'd managed to save his bread. Again, he'd eat it even if it had fallen on the floor. Desperate times call for desperate measures, after all.
Thankfully this one was a great deal nicer than the girl he'd met before, and for that he was very grateful. He offered his own grin and chuckled slightly at his sudden burst of energy. "Yeah, it seems so. I normally don't go down there, that was actually my first time. Maybe that was why I had more luck, perhaps?" It might've been, but then again the other - Alambri, was it? - might not have been there before today, either. Maybe he just found a particularly negative cook. Oh well.
Tearing off a rather large chunk of the bread, he offered it to Alambri with a smile. "Nice to meet you, Alambri. And no, no where in particular now that I've got something actually decent to eat," he informed him, rather pleased he'd gotten something that was actually edible. Koios tore off a small chunk and popped it into his mouth. Mmm. Even though it wasn't the best bread he'd ever had, it was heaven compared to what he'd been forced to eat for the past few sevendays. "What about you?" He quipped, since he'd been asked it first and had supplied an answer. "Are you going anywhere in particular?"

Flashing Koios with another bright grin, Alambri accepted the offered bread. "Now you've done it," he commented with a laugh, "You've fed me. You'll never get rid of me." He laughed again, and pulled a bit off of the bread, thrilled to find that it was, as Koios mentioned, entirely decent. "Thank you. It's sweet of you to share." He gave Koios a grateful look- he really hadn't needed to split his find.
"Maybe it is beginner's luck," he added, enjoying another small bite of the bread. He chuckled and shook his head, his tone becoming playfully self-depreciating. "Maybe they've just gotten tired of my lurking." Not that Alambri really lurked that often, but surely even patient kitchen staff eventually had to have a limit. And then, then came the spoons.
"I didn't have anywhere particular in mind, no. Mostly I was looking for company. Company that wouldn't attempt to chase me about with kitchen utensils. And lucky me, company popped right in," he said cheerfully. "And fed me, even," he added, with another grateful look. "Clearly a good sign. If you don't have anywhere urgent to be, do you want to head down to the lake? It's always cooler near the water." And while it wasn't really hot, by Istan standards, it was still plenty warm.
