Paradox was roaming his territory, as usual. Not many Soquili ventured out this far, but there had been a few that, lately, braved his desolate plains. He had been living here by himself, away from his family, for many moons now. It wasn't that he enjoyed being alone, but he felt it necessary. Necessary...for him to hone his skills as a predator, to recover some of the Kalona instinct his father had forsaken. Perhaps he could become something to be feared, something to be respected. Then he could earn his place in the world, to take it by force by the power of fear, so that he could be a "freak" in a pureblood-centered world. So that he would never face the jeers and rejection his father faced. He would be different.

And so, he spent the moonlit hours prowling around the outskirts of his chosen grounds, looking for both intruders and prey. He never knew what he would find each night, if he found anything, but he felt like this night would yield something interesting.

Istas had taken her leave from her usual grounds, she felt so ashamed of what happened. She had finally made her steps to make a family for her, and her love, but the mare vanished after hearing the 'good' news. No word, no nothing... She would be left alone to raise foals. The baskets were tucked away with the real birth father.

She was truly lucky to have Claude, but at this point... Istas had no where to go but down. She usually felt so sure of herself but things were different. So she left her usual grounds so no one had to see her falling apart. Maybe she wouldn't fall apart. Maybe it was all just... In her head?

Her ears twitched and she noticed the sound of someone nearby. Her auburn eyes looked around her for the source. Since it was a new place, she could have been at risk.

Paradox pricked his ears. Someone else was on his land tonight. A wicked grin spread across his features as he spread wing and flew towards the intruder.

Mere moments later, he swooped down in front of whoever it was. Wings snapping open to catch the wind on his descent, he whipped his head around and found...a mare. A light mare, white as ivory, with a pale violet shawl wrapped around her delicate shoulders. His heart twinged with a touch of guilt. Could he really be so heartless as to mercilessly bully her, to drive her away from his lands?

A Kalona would do it.

White-hot fury rose in him. He couldn't let his emotions get the best of him. Pureblood Kalona didn't have this problem. The moment of hesitation over, he snarled fiercely, baring short, but deadly, fangs.

"You are trespassing, oh wingless one. Why are you in my lands?" He demanded, his neon blue eyes piercing her fawn-colored ones.

Lost in her thoughts, her heart jumped as she heard the sudden movements, and then the appearance of a stallion. One that looks rather similar to a kalona. His sudden motions caused her to back away in fear. She didn't know where to run, this could surely be the end right? She hesitated to much... Wait, he was talking to her, rather then just attacking...

"I.. Uh... I'm. Sorry... I Didn't realize the land belong to someone. I was just walking.. I'll go elsewhere." Maybe she'd have a chance. "I'm sure I must stick out... Maybe I can find my way home." She pondered, but then she remembered that she didn't want anyone there to see her. She had to find herself, and the strength she needed to take care of herself and her foals.

"Or... Maybe not." She shook her head. Her confusion was not something she needed to show in front of this creature. That horn looked awefully sharp. It's be like a shiskabob Istas.

"Who said you were going anywhere? Now that you'd here, I want to know what brings you to my territory." A soft snarl escaped his lips. "You will tell me why you are here."

She looked so frightened. This is what his father meant...by others rejecting him on sight. He hadn't harmed her, but still she quivered under his gaze. Part of him felt so guilty, for causing such fear. But...part of him knew that a Kalona wouldn't feel guilt for being what they are. This was the first step towards earning respect, towards being accepted somewhere. So it was necessary. Paradox pushed his emotions out of his mind. He couldn't dwell on his feelings. Emotions were weak, inferior. He could earn respect without them, he didn't need them if they were only going to distract him from his goal.

As far as this mare went, he would bend her to his will, break her if necessary, intimidate, terrify...and then send her home in pieces. He could be a holy terror. His Kalona grandfather would be proud of him.

She couldn't leave? This could be a good thing...Though it had the taste of something bad. She glanced around, almost expecting to see other Kalona appear ready to devour her. Why was she there? He was a complete stranger, so maybe telling him could help? Or make things worse... This entire situation could go either way!

"I.. Well you... " She sighed some. If she was going to be killed, she might as well be killed knowing that someone else knew why she was there! It was like an ease of conscious or something... "My love left... She wanted a family, so I started to create a family for her.. And then my best friend.. He... "She snorted frustratingly. "Everything is so messed up. He's the father of the foals too... But she left... And his feelings changed..." She went on mumbling about foals, and mixed feelings and hurt.

"I was just leaving home because I couldn't deal with all of it. I'm broken, and still falling apart and no one needed to see it... I didn't want anyone to see it." She panted lightly from her long sentences... She felt slightly better from getting it all off her chest. But... Was that really the smartest move? Istas didn't know to much about Kalona...

"So, you let someone close enough to hurt you, and you're surprised you got burned?" He shook his head disapprovingly. "Hasn't anyone told you? If you let others that close, you always get hurt. Always. And what's more, you've let yourself get into this miserable state!"

Paradox couldn't believe that she was such a wreck, or that she had made so many mistakes. Then again, some just wouldn't listen to reason. Some had to learn things the hard way. It looked like she was one of those. Though he felt a touch of pity for her, he knew he could never let it show. Then he would be the disgrace, not her. He would be the one shamed. No...he couldn't have that.

"You expect me to have pity on you, because of something you did to yourself?! What kind of fool are you...if I were you, both your beloved and her cheating partner would have been dead by nightfall for such betrayal. But of course, your gentle, feeble race couldn't perform such a deed. I forgot how weak you are." He scoffed and turned away. "You're not worth my time. Anyone who can destroy themselves so completely can hurt themselves far worse than I can. Letting emotions cloud your judgment, letting others close enough to rip the very heart you hold so dear....those are hurts far deeper than physical pain, or fear. But you knew that already."

"You, who will lay here shivering in the cold. I'll tell you what you are. You are weak, almost pathetic, even. You couldn't keep your mate, your couldn't keep your friend. There must be something about you that drove them off. Maybe you weren't a good enough lover for her, so she ran off with a stallion. And the best part of it is that you can't do anything about it except cry. It's done."

"No you're wrong." She looked up at him. "She might have left for whatever reason... and I loved her. I triely did. But if I didn't experince this hurt then I would havenever known what i had was something good!" She huffed at him.

"My foals will be brillant just like their father and I. I don't want you're pity. I came out here to be alone. I was looking for anyone. There's alot going on and sometimes you fall apart." She took a few steps to the side. "A creature like you would never be able to understand that. "

There was a huige difference, to her, you can't eperince the good without the bad. She wanted her time to fall apart and try to gather herself up. She and Claude would become mates and have many children together. But she loved her mare love... And it did hurt that she suddenly left. A kalona probably never experinced love, just the nessecify to reporduce.

"Was it really good, if she left you? Obviously it wasn't as good as you think. You are simply clinging to a broken hope. Perhaps she left because of you. Perhaps she didn't love you as you love her." He looked at her with disdain. She was truly defeated. It was shameful to let oneself get in such a state.

Paradox snarled, anger brimming up within him. "And I didn't want to find a broken mare in my territory! Who are you to assume that I can't understand pain? But I would never allow myself to be in such a disgraceful state as you. You have allowed someone else to cause you pain so great that you cannot function. You have failed. And I have no patience with your plaintive cries, simply because they are not worth having patience with."

Paradox's eyes narrowed. "What kind of monster would take another mate while the one they loved still lived? Perhaps your love left you because you took another to your bed. And you call me a 'creature.' You are more of a monster than I am!"

Paradox would not stand to be insulted, not on his own land. He cared little for the mare's fragile emotions, and even less for how his words might hurt her more. His anger had been provoked, as evidenced by the wild red ring now lacing the edge of his iris, the sign of a loss of control in the stallion. He knew he should put forth an effort to control his emotions, so closely tied to his Kalona insanity and bloodlust, but this mare enraged him with her feeble excuses and cheeky tongue.

( omg, I'm so sorry about all the typos in the last post! DX )

Istas sighed. He didn't understand. You had to experience bad things to be able to appreciate the good. Maybe his kind wasn't incapable of that. "The worst pain out there, is that of loosing someone you love. But if it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger!" She shook her head at him. His kind, love? It was something he probably wouldn't understand. Evil and love doesn't exactly mix. "Just because you love someone doesn't mean you're meant to be. She wanted a family, and I was giving one to her, to make her happy." He could have been right, but why would she tell her over and over that she wanted a family of her own, and when she finally gets that, the mare leaves? Maybe she knew that Claude was her soul mate. Who knows.

But for some reason she was feeling better. Sure he was frustrating, and insulting. But he caused her to think of things that were unanswered and could never be answered. She laughed some. Yeah she felt better. She needed to gather herself, she needed to face the fact that, she had a relationship that ended. Claude and his 'girl friend' had ended around the same time, so maybe it was meant to be.

She laughed a bit louder and she glanced her auburn eyes over at him. He was calling her a monster. She had never been called that before, and not by something that ate other living things either. "Are you seeing your own reflection? Are you even capable of love? Do you have a soul, that has a mate out in the world? Because if you are capable of love, and then you loose that love for whatever reason. You'll understand one day." She could see the growing red in his eyes. She was going to need to watch her step unless she wanted to become his dinner.

Paradox faltered at her words. Loved and lost... Indeed, a mixed-breed such as he could love. He had loved, once. It seemed that whoever he did love wound up leaving. That was why he had sworn off love in the first place. The red faded from his eyes as he thought of her. But no...he couldn't show weakness in front of this mare.

"You know nothing of my past, don't assume so, little mare. You know nothing of me. And who is to say it is our blood that makes us monsters? I may look frightening, but is that really who I am? I think not. Your shallowness is appalling. You could very well be more of a monster than I, even without any tainted blood." Paradox sighed, tossing his mane out of his eyes. "But you should know...she must have felt at least a little jealous. It is hard to watch someone you love, knowing they have just left another's bed...even if it was for your sake that they did it," he spoke softly, the barest hint of sorrow creeping into his voice.
"And for the record...my parents love each other with the type of love you 'pures' can only dream of. So, really, I don't think you can judge whether someone can love based on the color of their eyes or the wings on their back."

Paradox knew that this was why his father had chosen to hide away from the world. To escape the mocking stares, the insults...other Soquili just couldn't handle the predator in their midst. Honestly, all this fuss over food. But Paradox knew that he wouldn't hide away like his father and mother. He would face this world, because he knew something that they didn't. He knew that although he might look and act differently, he had the same heart as any of them.

"You should go," he said, a hard edge back in his voice. "These are my lands...and I cannot guarantee the safety of those that choose to stay too long." Paradox narrowed his eyes, turning his head to hide the faint pink haze that still clouded his irises. Truth be told, he hadn't hunted yet, and the excitement of the day was making him hungry. Not exactly the safest thing for the little mare, though Paradox would do his best not to hurt her.

She looked at him. She had learned something new. Even if by her own mistake. And that was enough for her. Knowing what he said was him, they weren't all the same, and so the general stereotype was broken with her. She even grew a little respect for the one in front of her. But in her mind the thought of how it could have made her loved one jealous was sliding though her mind. She wanted to know why she would ask for a family, knowing it this would probably happen.

But with his final words, she decided to take the chance to leave. She snuffed lightly; but didn't say anything when she turned and started to walk back the way she had come. Hoping she'd find her way back to the lands she knew.
