Ah, Farstep Carnival, bustling with life as usual, voices heard from everywhere at once, the crowd just now beginning to thin out a little. Today, however, there was a somewhat new sight to see; Aoi, pushing what appeared to be a wheelbarrow full of ferns on a wire lattice dome. He was headed towards the camps, as he had before with Elst, to pay a visit to the Grady family vardo. He wore a hooded sweatshirt bearing the Elysian Gardens’ logo on it, to aid in his appearance as an employee delivering plants.
His true purpose, however, was much different; the latticework dome was hollow, hiding a little area where an Essentic -or two- could hide, veiled by the many fern fronds. He’d rigged it specially for the occasion. Earlier that day, Miss Ellandra had made a call to the Nursery, and told Aoi of a favor she needed to ask. Rhian, and apparently another Essentic he’d never heard of, were becoming quite the couple, and becoming so in a fashion that made the vardo a little…cramped, at times. So, she asked him to take them to the Nursery a while, give her and the other vardo inhabitants a little space.
My, his little sister had a boyfriend, did she? When he and Elst had visited last, Fao had told them of an owner, Lee, and her Essentic staying with them, but Aoi himself was a bit too preoccupied to pay much attention to that, instead having focused on asking how one went around getting a navel piercing. Aoi jumped at the occasion of meeting this Lauss; he loved meeting new siblings, especially if they had something to do with the little sister he was so fond of. With a bit of chicken wire, a large wheelbarrow, a fern, and Floramancy, the device he now pushed was easily created, and he’d begun his walk to Farstep. He was lucky, too; the traveling carnival had moved a little closer to the nursery as of late, so the hike wasn’t too unbearable.
And that, friends, was how the flower-child had reached Farstep, with a slight glaze of sweat upon his skin far too thin to ruin his usual pleasant floral scent, humming some tune or another. He stopped for a moment, however, cheeks flaring red, as he recalled just what this particular tune was. It was…the song he’d written for-
Ahem. Enough about that, let’s keep walking, shall we? The flush to his face was soon lost as he hummed a different tune, arriving at the vardo fairly quickly. Parking the wheelbarrow so it wouldn’t topple over, Aoi knocked gently on the door. His telepathy soon plotted out the mindsets within the home; Rhian, Ellandra, and…one other, new, must’ve been this Lauss fellow. From what he could glean at this range, seemed nice enough, a little…what was the term, thick-skulled? But nice, and that was what mattered. As long as this Lauss person could make his sister happy, that was all Aoi cared about.
After knocking, he realized it would likely be best to forewarn Ellandra of whom was knocking, so he sent a little mental call to her, hard to do due to the door between them, but manageable. …Ellandra? It‘s Aoi, as planned…
He could only hope his soon-to-be passengers weren’t too heavy; he’d been sleeping better than usual, which meant he was a fair bit stronger, with more endurance because his Source needs were fulfilled, but still. It was a long walk.
His thoughts on this, however, were soon distracted from the walk ahead, by thoughts of a different sort, thoughts of two days previous, when Verdant and Or- He stopped himself right there, another blush beginning to creep up his face as he thought of a certain Essentic; he shook his head slightly, trying to reduce the redness to his face. Hopefully it’d be gone by the time someone opened the door…

Ellandra was sitting on the couch, writing something in a notebook, and watching Rhian doze on top of Lauss yet again. If anyne asked, the brunette was merely working on another entry in her journal, but the truth was. . . something else entirely. It was, in fact, an attempt on her part to get thrugh the writers' block - and, admittedly, the lack of a desire to write - that had plagued her for so many months now. What she was writing was far from publishable quality, but it was something. She did, however, think that she'd be able to focus more on writing if Rhian would stop talking in her sleep.
The flutterby was comfortable as she could be, lying flat upon her "Lauss-teacher's" back, wings spread apart so that she looked like a cloak - a snring, bubble-blowing, sleep-talking cloak, that is. "Mmmm........ fluffy treat an' Lauss-teacher, let's share. . . . . not near th' wa'er, though, wa'er's bad . . ." Her dreams had become somewhat repetitive, nearly always involving cotton candy and Lauss. It was amusing to listen to her for a little while, but eventually it intruded upon Ellandra's attempts at writing and made her lose her fcus on what she was trying to say.
Aoi's mental call from outside, accompanied by the soft knocking, startle the pregnant woman a little, and sh nearly dropped her notebook before setting it aside and hefting herself to her feet, making her way over to the door and opening it with a smile for the (quite literally) flower-child. If she was surprised to see him in alter form, she didn't show it, and she moved aside to allow him room past her - due to her increasingly large baby belly, this was a considerable distance away from the door, in her mind at least. "Aoi, hello; goodness, I think I haven't seen you since before you grew. I'm glad you could come, but good luck getting Rhian to wake up, I'm afraid that's something of a challenge once she's slipped into a doze of this sort."
As if on cue, the flutterby snored loudly and blew some spit bubbles. "Lauss-teacher, why're..... you pink....?"

Lauss laid on his belly in the middle of the floor -- which had, unfortunately, become his bed -- and listened to Rhian string together illogical sentences. What a strange girl. His tail flicked with joy each time he heard his name, and he tried to piece together what exactly was happening in her mind. The essentic had thought her dream had been about a lake, or perhaps a bathtub, and at one point he could have sworn she mentioned something about "fluffy treats", but now he was pink. What did that mean? He knew by now that it was useless to ask her, as she was likely the heaviest sleeper that had ever lived, and he instead just assumed that she went a bit crazy whenever she fell asleep.
He wished, though, that he'd been in a more comfortable position before she laid down. He couldn't look at her from this angle. Propping himself up on his elbows, he twisted his head as far back as he could until he could barely make out the tip of a wing. Sighing, he turned back around and let his face lay against the floor. It was so boring, having nothing related to his purpose to do. If only this carnival had more books.
The proto jumped a bit at Ellandra's sudden movements. Watching her answer the door, Lauss lifted his head up to try to spot what had caught the woman's attention.
A stranger? Someone new? Someone who could teach him something? And he was here for Rhian, apparently. Not being able to hover was really getting to him. He wanted to glide over, bow, and introduce himself as he always did, but... he was stuck here, like a fish out of water. It was rude to shout across a room, or so he'd recently read, and managed to keep his mouth shut until the others were a bit closer.

Ah, the flush finally cleared, and Aoi sighed a little with relief. He knew his sister to be far too perceptive with such things for her own good; couldn’t have anyone learning about Or-
Ahem, anyway. There seemed to be a rather strange…glaze? Going about both Rhian and what he assumed to be Lauss; he knew part of it was the haze of sleep, that was easily enough recognized, but…there was something else between the two of them…amusingly enough, it felt like a juvenile form of that haze Elst seemed to get when he was around Miss Longway…My, this Lauss might have been an even better match for Rhian than Aoi had thought.
All of a sudden, Ellandra stood in the now-open doorway, very much pregnant, and Aoi realized this was the first she’d seen of his Alter form. As she invited him inside, he caught a glimpse of Lauss; how interesting. Sort of dragon-like, kind of reminded him of Or-
Ahem. Oh, Ellandra was speaking, better listen up. “Oh, uh, yeah, I hit Alter a little while back, I almost forgot how long it’s been since I’ve talked to any of you…My favorite part though, is that I finally have a mouth… How are the babies doing?” As she mentioned Rhian, his eyes fell back on the sleeping duo, a slight shine appearing upon them from seeing his little sister so outright happy.
“Well, I could always try and make a bit of thunder, that might wake ‘er up…Or, I could just take them both as is, I can just carry them out and let them sleep a little while longe- Oh, he’s awake?” Oh, it seemed that his sister was the only one asleep; the odd dragon-worm-ish Essentic was looking straight at him. Ignoring the anomaly that his newly-found brother seemed incapable of doing anything other than squirming around, as well as any other physical features, Aoi walked over to Lauss, carrying a cautious smile.
Now that he was closer, he could read a few more things off of Lauss. He…seemed to like knowledge, from the eagerness he displayed to learn Aoi’s identity, maybe he was a scholar Essentic of some sort? And also…wait, what was that last intention…A stray intent seemed to catch Aoi’s attention quite steadily. Lauss wanted to…bow? Oh, that must be some formality or something, that must be it, some noble-scholarly thing. Hey, might as well try it.
He offered a slight bow, a crane of his neck, a tilt of the spine, as well as his positioning of one arm in front of his torso, one in back…he’d seen a bow done before somewhere, it looked something like that…or at least he hoped. “Might you be this ‘Lauss’ I’ve heard about? You’re treating my sister well, right?” With this he offered a slight widening to his smile. His words were a jest, of sorts; in his mind, the very thought of anyone mistreating his precious younger sibling seemed impossible. Strangely enough, his words just then, had a decent portion of influence from Elst’s mannerisms, and just a dabbling of…Faolan?

"Oh, they're all right now, I suppose," Ellandra said softly, though her tone was still laced with just a bit of sadness as she thought about the condition Sam was being left with; he may be as of yet unborn, but she was starting to call the twins by nicknames - in her mind at least - already. "Well. . . it would probably be best if you woke her," the brunette added as she looked over at the sleeping butterfly. "It's just. . . difficult to rouse her sometimes." Was this an understatement? Very much so.
At that moment, Rhian snuggled against Lauss, then rolled to the side and fell with a soft "thump". "Lauss-teacher......teach-me.....kisses...mm......I'll-help......" Then she kept right on snoring. Silly flutterby.

Lauss' head turned from Ellandra to Aoi and back again as they spoke. Aw, he was so lucky. A mouth was exactly what Lauss needed. He pressed his nose to the floor with a sigh as he was reminded once more of how badly he wanted to grow.
Oh, joy, this "Aoi" fellow was looking at Lauss! And now he was -- wait, he was bowing?! To Lauss? Hardly anyone bothered to do that! This Aoi was really something. Lauss' tail flicked behind him, batting Rhian a few times without him realizing. "Yes, Mister Aoi. I am Lauss." This was where his own bow was supposed to come in, but instead he nodded as best he could. Was he treating Rhian well? "I believe so..." He was still a novice when it came to this sort of thing, so it was difficult to say.
Looking back at Rhian, he noted that she was, once again, saying things that made no sense. "Miss Rhian is only sleeping. She is not crazed." Good. Let's clear that up right now before there were any misunderstandings. If Ziazan hadn't been there to explain the first time he'd heard her talk like this, Lauss might have died of worry.

Aoi’s smile faltered a little as he picked up Ellandra’s worries, the back of his mind sending not quite words, but more of a general feeling of They’ll be alright… to try and soothe her troubled thoughts. Now…what to do about Rhian. From the sound of it, she slept like a fluttery rock with a three-foot wingspan, how was he going to wake her up without scaring her too badly?
As he finished bowing to Lauss, he paid a little more attention to his newfound relative-of-sorts. Mentally, he was rather unique, so eager to learn things…And he seemed very desperate to have something else, he felt that same desire emanating from Rhian as well. He couldn’t quite figure out what it was, however.
My, he seemed just eager to be spoken to…and the bow certainly got a reaction from him too. “Hey. As long as you’re trying to make her happy, you’re good with me…” His sibling seemed to try to bow, why couldn’t he move, anyway…Oh, is that a cast on his arm, what happened to him? Aoi was just now noticing, as he’d been too preoccupied from Lauss’ mindset to see it earlier.
He smiled a little wider as he listened to his sister talk in her sleep, almost all about Lauss, too…wait, crazed? What? “Crazed…? Oh, I know, she’s fine, she’s just dreaming, a little sleeptalk is all…and dreaming about you, it seems.” He scratched the back of his head, mind distracted, before remembering why he’d come here in the first place. “Oh, nearly forgot, I meant to get you guys to my Dad’s nursery, it’s why I dropped by, give you some room to stretch out and all.” He sprinted out the door for a moment, pulling the plant-laden wheelbarrow into the vardo with care. He gave the wire-and-fern dome a quick tug, popping it off to reveal a hidden chamber with ample amounts of room underneath.
“Now, if I can manage to get Rhi awake and get you guys in here, I can ferry you both off without others noticing. Sound good to you? It'll give you both one of those rare chances to get outside, after all.” As he spoke, he reached in his pocket, retrieving an odd block of crushed leaves. A natural version of smelling salts, if there ever was one; their poignant smell well known for their ability to astound people out of deep sleep. He placed it near Rhian’s face, fanning the scent forward to make sure she would smell it. Fortunately, unlike actual smelling salts, this natural alternative was not all to unpleasant; it simply resembled concentrated menthol.

'Thank you, Aoi,' Ellandra thught quietly, not so much a response as just an appreciative thought - she really had needed that little push of reassurance just then. She worried too much and she knew it, but well, at least the twins were mostly healthy. That was all she could ask for, right? The brunette watched the Essentics interact as she carefully mved back over to the couch and sat back down - she had some writing to do once the little ones were out. plus, she wanted to see if Aoi's plan to wake Rhian up worked out, if so she might have to ask for some of those leaves he was waving about to keep in the vardo . . .
At the first wiff of the smelling-salt plants, Rhian didn't react, for about two seconds, before she leapt off the ground and fluttered staight up into the air, bonking her head on the ceiling and looking around with wide eyes. "Grass monster! Where?!?" Then she seemed to fully wake up, and blinked at Aoi before fluttering down again until she was eye-to-eye with him. "Aoi-flower, you grew!" Even as she exclaimed happily over her plant-sibling's growth, her own longing to grow, to reach the next stage of life, increased dramatically. She wanted to grow oh so badly!

Oh, good, Aoi already knew. Surely Lauss wasn't the only one who had assumed Rhian had gone crazy, right? Oh well, Aoi was probably just very observant. Lauss nodded to his sibling; Rhian always seemed to dream about him. He was becoming more and more aware of how much Rhian actually liked him, and while it was still a bit strange to have someone thinking about him all the time, the proto couldn't help but let out a happy purr each time he was reminded.
Ah, so that was why he was here. Lauss would finally be able to crawl out of this cramped little wagon? And with Rhian? This was certainly worth celebrating, but the best Lauss could manage was a few swift flicks of his tail. "Thank you, Mister Aoi." He was really too kind. Lauss began wiggling over to the wheel barrow, ready to be plopped inside. "Are you muscular, Mister Aoi? I am said to be quite heavy..." Well, according to Lee, anyway, but she could hardly lift a pillow.
Waking Rhi would be difficu-- Wait, what had Aoi called her? "Rhi?" Lauss looked back at the butterfly as Aoi attempted to wake her and tilted his head. Was that was they called a "nickname"? Watching and wincing as Rhian rocketed to the ceiling, the proto couldn't help but give her safety less worry than whether or not he'd be able to call her by such a name. He should, shouldn't he? After all, they were, technically, dating."M-Miss Rhi..." That was a lot harder than it should have been. "Are you hurt?"

Aoi offered a gentle smile to Ellandra, still subtly flowing soothing afterthoughts to her, while he turned his attention to his -apparently quite conscious- sister. Ellandra was now comfortably seated on the couch, so all he could do now to help would be to keep sending the soothe, just settle her worries, if only for now.
My, Rhian was quite the alert butterfly now and- Ouch, ceiling impact. And what was this about monsters? “Whoa, Rhi, you okay…? Quite the crash, there. And hey, no worries, only monster here’s little ol’ me…Oh, yeah, I hit Alter a while back, I guess I should’ve told you…Just slipped my mind, I guess.” And whoa, what was that? The weird feeling he’d sensed from both Rhian and Lauss, that off anxiety, had just redoubled on the flutterby’s part. And…Oh! That was it, he finally figured it out! His Alter-dom brought it on, yes, they must want to grow too…Let’s see if we can make her feel better about that…
“And hey, Rhi, can’t help but notice you’re bigger than the last time I saw you, taller…You hit a growth spurt or something?” He turned back to Lauss and…wait. Where was Lauss, anyway? A quick turn of Aoi’s head answered for him that particular question; the eager proto was already making his way over to the wheelbarrow. Saying a quick ‘No prob’ as he heard a word of thanks, he moved on to the next thing to address. “And hey, no need to call me ‘mister’, eh? We’re family enough, at least from what I can tell, you’re pretty much a brother-in-law, huh? Good enough to be a brother to me, I’d say. Call me Aoi, or brother, whatever you want, alright? No need to get all these little titles around family.”
Ah, yes, he felt the little pangs of excitement and happiness coming off the dragon-ish proto, that was for sure. All from his sister, it seemed. Somehow, Aoi felt he could trust this one to keep his sister happy, but before any decisions get made, let’s get to the nursery… And without another word, he scooped the proto up, arms flaring with green-magi-mist to supplement his strength, gently setting him in the wheelbarrow. And hey…wasn’t he calling her ‘Rhian’ earlier? Seems the inquisitive little guy had picked up Aoi’s nickname for her, a good sign for what Aoi saw as a budding relationship between the two protos. He dropped a little hint into Lauss’ mind, however. Hey, I doubt she’d mind if you drop the ‘Miss’ and just get to callin’ her Rhi, eh? She’s bound to love it…
Okay, all set? Wait. Rhian needed to be detained. Time for his ace in the hole. “Hey, Rhi, get on in the ‘barrow, eh? Lauss is waiting to have some quality time with you…And he suggested we get you some of that pink stuff, eh, what was it called…?" He knew what it was, of course; this was how he teased his little sister, and his mischevious grin showed it. And with any luck, Lauss would catch his drift and keep quiet about how it wasn’t actually his idea - Rhian was sure to be overjoyed if she heard that her precious Lauss had volunteered to get her favorite treat for her.
Oh. Wait. Judging from all this so far, this particular Proto was practically guaranteed not to catch Aoi’s drift. So…let’s just encourage him to just go along with it. But, Aoi didn’t want to force Lauss to lie or anything, so…we’ll convince him otherwise. Hey, I know it wasn’t your idea to get the cotton candy, but you made me think of it, so you're the reason I though of it...just don't mention it for now, alright?

Ellandra smiled back at Aoi - and flinched a little when Rhian's head hit the ceiling, but the flutterby seemed no worse for wear, so she took her notebok and flipped back to the last page she'd written anything on. "Have a good time, dear ones," she said quietly, a bit distacted by - ugh, what in the world was that line? No, no, it shouldn't go there, it shouldn't even BE there, blech, bad writing, that's what that was. She did smile again, however, at Lauss' attempt at caling Rhian by a nickname.
For her part, Rhian tilted her head and brushed Aoi with a wing. "Silly Aoi-flower, I'm not any bigger than I was before!" At the mention of Lauss in the barrw and - and "FLUFFY TREAT?!?" the flutterby was gone, diving headfirst into the wheelbarrow and landing a bit roughly half sprawled on, half next to her Lauss-teacher. "Lauss-teacher, Lauss-teacher! Fluffy treat, really? And - and you called me Rhi!" How she did it was anyone's guess, but smehow the flutterby managed to kiss lauss quite soundly on the nose in absolute delight.

How strange. It seemed that everyone he'd met at this carnival wasn't a fan of titles. Well, alright, Aoi it was. Lauss nodded, wondering how it was that his family preferred no titles, but his master practically demanded one. Not that he wanted to call Lee anything but "Miss Lee." That would just be weird.
Ah, good, Aoi could lift him. Wiggling a bit after being plopped into the wheelbarrow, Lauss tilted his head at Aoi's suggestion. Call her just Rhi? That would be okay? Seemed so... forward. He'd try it once she was in this contraption with him, just to see how it would go. Wait... how was it that he was hearing Aoi without seeing his mouth move? And... was he the only person who heard that? Rhian hadn't seemed to notice Aoi had said anything... It must just be his imagination.
Wait, what was Aoi saying now? He couldn't deny that he did want to spend some quality time with her -- though he wasn't entirely sure what that meant -- but... the cotton candy was his idea? "I did?" Tilting his head to the side, he wasn't going to deny it, but... he really didn't remember mentioning anything about her favorite treat. And there was Aoi's voice in his head again. How was he doing that? Don't mention it, he says. Seeing Rhian so happy over something that wasn't entirely true bothered the essentic slightly, but he did as he was told, halfheartedly nuzzling Rhian's cheek as she fell next to him. So, she had noticed the nickname. "Is that alright, Miss Rhian?" Oops. It just came out that way, he couldn't help it! This was going to take some getting used to.

Oh man, Aoi was in one hell of a good mood. This was the happiest he’d ever seen Rhian, and he loved seeing her like this. The curious happiness of the odd newcomer, Lauss, just made Aoi feel even better. This was going to be fun, good day to be had for all, eh?
He gave Lauss a quick pat on what seemed to be his shoulder, trying to give the Essentic a little confidence towards calling Rhian Rhi, watching happily as she crash-landed in the wheelbarrow. He closed the fern-laden dome over the blissful duo, sending another mental reassurance to Lauss. Okay, Lauss, this’ll sound weird, but I’m talkin’ right to your brain, here, no vocalization or anything. You can just think out your words to me and I’ll hear ‘em, unless you prefer using your voice…Anyway, you just for some reason reminded me how much she loves cotton candy, is all… Aoi was being honest, here, Lauss really had reminded him of the pink fluff Rhian loved so much.
“Anyway, let’s head out, eh? I’ll bring ‘em back whenever they’re ready, Ellandra, drop the Nursery a call if you need them back right away… Good luck with your writing!” And with that, he wheeled the couple out of the vardo, closing the door, and began the walk back to the Nursery, moving fast to save time.

Ellandra squeaked a little, blushing at being caught out, but then, Aoi was telepathic, so she really shouldn't have been all that surprised. She nodded politely to Aoi as he rushed the two protos out and away. "Good-bye, and have fun!" Then she went back to her writing in the now much-quieter vardo. Perhaps her ideas would flow properly now.
Rhian pouted a little when Lauss called her "Miss Rhian" again, and gently touched him with an antennae for the briefest of moments just to make a point. "I liked being called Rhi, Lauss-teacher! Try again please?" She asked as she kissed him on the nose again. She knew he was trying, and that was really all that mattered.
