Scavenger Hunt Interest Thread
I was wondering if any owners would be interested in a subforum just for scavenger hunting in order to collect ingredients to make items for their soquili.
Kaisanti had drawn up many winning designs from the item contest we had several months ago. Instead of putting them in the item store, I thought of a way for owners to create the items by collecting ingredients. An example of this is a wolf fang necklace. In the Scavenger Hunting subforum there would be threads such as "Hunting", "Gathering", and "Mining". In order to make the wolf fang necklace for your soquili, your indian persona must get 3 wolf fangs and sinew (dried muscle strand). They would need to proceed to the "Hunting" thread in order to hunt a wolf.
The first post of the Hunting thread has numbers in which you need to roll in order to get to a certain animal. Under the animal category there are numbers next to their "item drops" that you need. Rarer item drops have a larger roll count, making the items rarer to obtain for your pet. Once you roll an animal that you encounter and wish to hunt them then you need to roll the numbers to get their necessary item drops.
Going back to the previous example of wanting to hunt a wolf in order to obtain 3 wolf fangs and sinew thread, you must first roll a wolf. Once you have done that then you would roll for the wolf's right item drops. A wolf may drop fangs, claws, sinew strands, pelts, tails, etc that you would collect off them during the fight if you roll a specific number in your dice. You can obtain more than 1 item during a hunt if you rolled the corresponding numbers. It is similar to a video game series, Star Ocean, that has a big item creation feature that many find fun and engaging.
Other examples include a gem necklace that needs gold and rubies to make. You would find those ingredients in the "Mining" thread. As for the "Gathering" thread, you could gather feathers, roots to make dye for fancy tattoos, food etc. You wouldn't be hunting an animal but gathering in a specific area of the map where you would be more likely to find these things. The same would go for the mine where different areas would yield you different minerals.
If the scavenger hunt system is popular then I can see more than just items for your pet being created. Items that could give stat boosts, certain food that would attract you a soquili during an event by giving you more raffle tickets than normal. Maybe even special RP only items that could reduce the price of a soquili.
Once you have collected all the ingredients then you would visit the item store where Harper and Celeanor would then "make" the item for you with your supplies. Then they would place the item on your pet like a regular accessory you would ordinarily buy. Perhaps even a donation could be given to them for doing so. Better yet, they could be placed on the shop's payroll since they would be doing way more work than normal. In the item shop there would be a post that details recipe guides for every item you can make in the game. Some recipes would be secret and only Harper and Celeanor would know. I could see people just presenting ingredients they find to the girls and they "make" the item that can be created or give the ingredients back. To make more than one item for your pets, you would need more ingredients of course.
Everyone participating in the scavenging would make their own thread in the Scavenger hunt subforum that would detail the ingredients you have found and items you have made. Maybe to keep things legit you would post the link of every roll you have done that obtained you the ingredient. To oversee the subforum, a Scavenger Manager would be hired.
I could see an item exchange possibly emerging where the indian personas would trade ingredients for gold or other items. It might be a fun way to make gold to go towards that quest while still RPing your soquili or randomly generating ingredients in the threads.
All the ingredients would be drawn of course but the same line art would be recolored like feathers of different birds for instance. I could hire someone to make the items or do them myself.
Please give feedback for this feature and any helpful ideas you may have. If everyone likes the idea then I can start creating it and giving out helper jobs. I think it would be fun and give people something to do in order to give their pets cool accessories. Of course some ingredients could be given out during random events in the main thread or hidden in the guild too without using the threads to generate them. Special ingredients like the ones used for making food for more raffle tickets would be given out to those who RP a lot by being posted in your teepee or given in the thread.
Thanks for reading, SiSi heart

SO COOL! I love video games where you can harvest and collect things, so this sounds absolutely amazing! It will likely get me to actually make an indian persona smile
Just another idea, perhaps in the gathering category, or maybe hunting, would be fish for fish scales to make items sparkly smile
and maybe if you want to make the system more complex in the future, if people have rped a lot they could get an increased skill in one area and have an easier category of rolling to represent being better at tracking animals or identifying plants *nods* I'm really excited for this system though!

Wow this idea sounds a lot like Free Realms' creation of items. So it makes complete sense to me. I'm really excited to see this feature, very interactive compared to other run-of-the-mill B/C shops.
I especially love the idea of trading between indian personas! ;D

Sounds like a great idea to me ^_^ though keeping it simple would help keep the fun there. Getting to ocomplicated would deter new players I think. Bt other than that it sounds really good
Edit - Owners could also gather ingredients to make items to sell or as gifts right? Just because you gathered it, doesn't mean that its for your soquili. Just a thought.

It's an interesting idea, I'm curious though if this means there would be more opportunities to get accessories full stop as I am fairly sure the only one to have had slots for that open this year was Cele?
I think that availibilty would need to be sorted before you add a new dimension to a feature that has become hard to get.

the amount of times tried per day should be limited
also like any hunt you might come across the item you want
maybe someone is randomly picked and given an item?

I love this idea!
I do agree with Faid that we need to keep it simple. It might just be because its 6am here, but just reading this kind of confused me. I understand the gist of it though since Im a gamer.
I also like the idea of being able to give items to friends. I'm not a big shop item person myself, but it'd be nice to participate and be able to gift my friends with the rewards.
It will be interesting to see what comes of this, there are many great ideas for the future like attracting soquili, indian traiding, and secret recipes. But, I do believe we need to start of slow. This sounds like it could become very time consuming, very quickly.

Too much work in my opinion. gonk I have a kid and wouldn't want to take the time to do all that. @.@ Just item shops that aren't on a horribly rocky schedule would be great. Get someone to run a full time or part time trade store sad please?

My only issue with this idea if that not every soquili as an Indian Persona, only one of my soquili is bonded to a human so only she could get the new items under this scheme which I don't like. I don't agree with almost penalising particular soquili just because they don't have a human (frankly some of mine would KILL a human).
I would agree with Ivory on this one, I would MUCH prefer it if a new person (or new people) was hired to manage the Trade Store. If slots were opened more regularly then that would ensure everyone could get the accessories they wanted without being forced to work this much for them, particular when in some cases it simply isn't ICly feasible.
Personally I think scavenger hunts should be used to encourage roleplay in other areas, hold it as a minigame with stat gains and additional rewards that may occasionally be an accessory from the trade store or even gold towards a quest - but don't force people to do something like this when it's so limiting on a substantial number of their characters.
I mean I love the new accessories (told Kai as much when she showed me some of the WIPs) but I will NOT be working for them in this manner simply because I can't. The Soquili I wanted to use don't have humans and therefore can't participate in this sort of thing which is disappointing. AND before you say "create another human" I'm not going to spend another six hours generating up to ten characters when I have enough personalities to contend with in my herd.
...It's just not happening.

I like the idea, but I have to agree with Ivory and Epine in the sense that, yes not everyone has humans, and not everyone has the time for it.
I think you can still do the scavenger hunt, either have it free, or with a lower value, and also sell the items in a shop for the people that can't do the hunts. Or have it where the horses can do the work them selves.
Like, a reg soq wouldn't kill but maybe they could barter with another horse that happens to have what they need, and then the people running the place that 'makes' everything into items have a horse that can deal with the other horses.
>.>; Not to sure if that made sense, but generally, have it so that the horses themselves could maybe also be involved (for those that don't have humans)
Overall though I like the idea, and I would try to partake.

I think this is a WONDERFUL idea. It means the shop is really extending past all normal b/c shops. Also, it would be really fun. I would think of it just a way to unwind at the end of the day and maybe get a cool item out of it.
Also, the trading of items idea sounds really cool. Maybe a thread where there's a form and people can post, "I have ______ and I'm looking for ______" and then people can respond in the thread or send a pm. Then in a seperate thread (so it doesn't get too cluttered) obviously in the end they would have to post something like, "I am giving (Username) this ______ in exchange for _____" And then the other person would quote that saying "I agree" or "I accept" or something. And maybe in their teepee they could have a post saying all their items and a link to prove they really have them, either linking to the post in the hunting/gathering/mining forum or to the trading forum where they traded for that particular item. That way to make it really easy they can just link to that post in their teepee when trying to change materials into an item at Harper and Cel's shop.
And as a suggestion for the people who don't like this idea and want just a regular shop where you can post orders, why doesn't this shop double as that? Only its not open ALL the time, maybe once a week or once every 2 weeks only offering 5 slots? 1 slot per person, 1 soquili per slot, maybe a limit on 2 items per soquili? Or 2 common items or 1 rare item. That way people like Ivory, who doesn't have enough time, or Epine, who's soquili don't have indian personas to gather stuff, can still get these really cool new items. And also, if someone is having a super tough time trying to get a really rare item, this could be their chance to get it.

It definitely has potential. I can see both pros and cons to it - and a scavanger manager would be a must simply to keep folks from deleting & re-rolling over and over. Would there be a set # of attempts in each "hunt" for example?
I like the "hidden" combos. Esp. if we mix it up a bit so that what works for one won't work for another (say, a Gen 1 unicorn would get a bracelet from item 1 + item 2 while a Gen 3 uni would need item 2 and item 4). That would keep folks from sharing the secret! XD
As for the trading post not being open, now that things have settled in RL for me I am coming off my hiatus with mine and hope to be open regularly again! (in fact, there are a few open now!)
