Valiant had been pacing inside the hollow of the tree for what felt like forever, there was no denying now that she was pregnant. The manx had never gained more than five pounds at a time, but they disappeared as soon as they were noticeable. When she had woken up that morning she felt it dawn on her that she would not be able to get by with all the lies she had been telling anymore, and the first person that deserved to know was the ever observant Ishtar. He had been stressed lately with the healing of his father, so he had taken little notice. The Manx preferred she and Raco tell him there selves rather than everyone else gossiping about it and him being more hurt. She sat down once more and fidgeted with her hair, in the course of the morning she had brushed it, braided it, unbraided it, ran her fingers through it, and paced. Poor Raco must think she was in the middle of a panic attack, and hell she was on the bridge of one. Thoughts of what could go wrong never really left the forefront of her brain, and she had always assumed the worst. Valaint tapped her fingers on her knee and started pacing again… where the hell was Ishtar?

Raco sat back eating a wild raspberry. He'd easily noticed Val's weight gain, and so had all the other. Many of them pestered him questioning him about it. He just told them Val had finally gotten used to their food and her metabolism was adjusting. Most had accepted his response, but most of the girls just gave him and odd to look and took off.

He'd watched her brush, do, un-do and fiddle with her hair. "If you keep doing t'at your 'air is going to fall out." he teased her before taking another bite of the raspberry, it was quite sweet, he liked it. He's tried to offer Val one but she had ignored him, again. He wasn't even sure if she'd heard him just then.

"'E'll be 'ere Val. Just relax, 'e 'as a lot on 'is mind as well, t'at is enoug' to slow anyone down." he sighed pushing the last bit of the raspberry in his mouth. He wish she would just sit down, but the only way that was going to happen was to tie her down and there was a fat chance in hell that was going to happen.

In the middle of her pacing Raco spoke and she whirled and glared at him.
“Don’t you dare start telling me to calm down, I’m stuck here going to tell what might be the only person that has loved me unconditionally that I have yet to mention I’m KNOCKED UP.” Val quieted and started messing with her hair again just to keep her busy. The Manx was not feeling well, and she was over stressing herself once more.

Without really realizing it she had gravitated toward Raco, feeling like crap that she had snapped at him. The girl lowered herself so that she was sitting next to him and rested her forehead against his shoulder.
“I’m sorry I snapped at you… I really don’t know what is wrong with me right now, it’s like I’m a completely different person… one that’s moody as hell.”
Truth be told, Valiant hated how being Pregnant affected her, she had to think twice before she did anything really, even something as simple as talking.
~~~
Ishtar had been desperate to see his adopted mother, to bury his face in her neck and forget about all the drama with his real family. Hell in his absence he had even missed Raco, the male he was unsure liked him whatsoever… he had not heard of Val and Raco’s night together yet, for he had been observing many healers abilities over time. He neared the tree and stopped for a few moments, breathing in and out just to clear his head. He was going to be home once more! Away from the stress that was eating at him. Smiling to himself he brushed the hair from his eyes and tucked it behind his ear. The mix wished to relish in his coming home, he would get to Val in moments, but he would take his time at it.
The Mau didn't even so much as flinch when the Manx yell at him. He merely stared at her and took a drink of tea. She'd slowly been succumbing to her hormones and he was just shrugging it off, hell most of the females in the camp in heat were worse than her as far as he was concerned.
"T'ere's really no need to apologize to me." he shrugged. "I've dealt wit' worse attitudes before, so you could probably scream at me all day and it would not bot'er me." he said holding the jug of tea out to Val if she wanted some. He was wondering in the back of his mind how Ishtar would react to the news, he knew he'd had a hard blow recently from his father's attempt to take his own life, then some other who had been adopted by his biological mother causing even more problems, he pitied the poor boy. He shouldn't have had to deal with the stress, hopefully this would be like good news for him.
“Raco you can’t even begin to understand what it is like.” She mumbled quietly into his shoulder and ignoring the bottle of tea. The stuff was even more repulsive now that she was pregnant. It felt as though all her emotions had a fire burning under them, she felt like a blimp and her head was always spinning, if anyone dare speak of the wonders of pregnancy she would more than likely skin them alive.
“I do not want to be pregnant anymore!” she growled un-amazingly frustrated at her situation, as many had been before her. It wasn’t that she didn’t want the kit; it was more that she was accustomed with Ishtar, and that she never had to deal with having him kicking her abdomen. Not to mention she was as confused as ever with how she felt for Raco, something was there, but she could never quite pull it to the surface to observe it thoroughly.
Ishtar had wandered to the opening of the tree just as Valiant had mumbled fiercely about not wanting to be pregnant. His hand immediately took hold of the tree as shock settled over his features. His mom, the woman he cared the most about in the world… was pregnant… but by whom? How? Val was not one for casual sex, like most of the others… what the hell was going on? His eye narrowed as he looked at Raco, either he was there for moral support… OR… he felt some of the bark come off under his hands as he stood there, still unknown to his mother. He would be happy in time, but in that moment he felt alone, like he had lost something very dear to his heart. The shock took a lot out of him, and suddenly his anger turned to weariness as he leaned against the entrance to what he believed to be the ‘couples hideaway’
"I am more t'an aware of t'at and I won't lie to you, I'm glad I won't, at least for t'e most part." he gave a slight laugh, he'd heard the 'horror' stores and woes of pregnant female before and he had no interest in finding out what it felt like to have kits swimming in one's abdomen.
He rubbed her shoulder, taking another swallow of the tea. "'ey, relax, at least you don't 'ave too much longer, and you've got the best medics in Ikebokuro 'ere." he said with a smile. "Besides, it will be wort' t'e 'ell once it's all over, you know." he said. It was true, she'd feel better once the kit was born.
He sensed Ishtar outside of the tree and whispered to Val. "I t'ink 'e's here and may have over'eard use talking." He wasn't sure of exactly how long Ishtar has been there but he was quite sure long enough.
Valiant stood up immediately, though the quickness made her queasy. Ishtar was so pale as he watched them dully, it looked as though the little boy had lost everything and was having his heart ripped from his chest.
“Ishtar, I’m so glad your home…” The Manx mumbled and hugged him close to her.
Ishtar kept his eyes open as he wrapped his arms around Val, he talked only to Raco however as he stroke her back, concerned about her well being. Val to him was a shining beacon in a sea of darkness, and if anyone were to mistreat her or break her heart he would have to kill them. So as the recently declared adult spoke, he spoke specifically to Raco as he rubbed small circles on Valiant’s back.
“Raco, I’m going to say this now, because I know that you will take me seriously. If I ever hear that you have hurt her in anyway, I will have to fight you, and I will lose. I don’t want to do that but I know it would happen if someone damaged Valiant more than she has been already. I simply could not stand to drag her back from that void of darkness she had fallen victim too so long ago. This is more than a shock to me, because just before I came home I had to nurse a female with a litter, it was a small one, three but all died. She was bigger than Valiant, but I fear the same fate. I want her taken care of Raco, and if you cannot take responsibility for all this comes with, I suggest you leave her be, and break her heart early.”Ishtar finished as he looked eye to eye with his adopted mother and smiled sadly to her… it had to be difficult in her situation, but he would see that she would be taken care of, at any cost.
Val stood dumbfounded in the other’s arms, she had expected anything but that speech. Shock, disbelief, hatred, distain, possibly even depression, but as he spoke in a cool calculating manner Val could not help but believe that someone had replaced her baby boy with a adult.
“Ishtar… I don’t feel…”
Ishtar cut her off and closed his eyes as he quietly mumbled for her ears only.
“Mother I have observed how you look at him, and I knew if it was anyone in the Anbu… it would be him.” He looked at her silently and then looked up, letting the bitter childish remark slip from his lips as he spoke once more to Raco.
“So how long have you been ******** my mother?”
Raco sat through his speech, blank faced, but mildly interested. He was nearly ready to reply to the boy after taking another drink of the tea until his question.
He had been mid-gulp when Ishtar had asked how long Raco had been sleeping with Val, he began to choke and cough, feeling as though he were going to bring up a long from how who knows how much tea he had just inhaled into them just then. He pounded his fist to his chest, still coughing quite badly. Once he finally stopped he croak "W'at?" he took another minute to breathe properly. "No, you 'ave t'is all wrong. I 'ave not been as you said it 'sleeping' with 'er like you t'ink. It was one night, a very fuzzy nig't even still. But it was still one nig't." he said steely-eyed.
"I can assure you I am not going to up and walk off on 'er leaving Val wit' a litter. It would be a dishonored for me to even contemplate suc' a t'ing. In fact, I look forward to it."
he said still plain faced. He wanted to smile in spite at the boy. But his voice told it all. He was happy, excited even, but all the same, it was unfortunate that the litter had not at least been planned. It would have made all of their lives a great deal easier.
Val felt her face grow pale and had to sit down at the question. She could honestly say she knew what it was like to have a heart stop, though this was not out of love. He had been so blunt about it! She brought her knees up to her chest and put her hands over her face; peeking out at the scene before her… this was meant to be nerve racking but happy! Now it was just… awkward. Her stomach did one last flop before she found herself sick, standing quickly she rushed past Ishtar to empty her stomach.
Ishtar smiled at the other male, though it was a sad small smile.
“You don’t yet understand what that means Raco. Do you really think Valiant is ever going to look at a male as a mate? I have seen how she watches you, and I have seen how you watch her, it does not seem to be the same thing. I want to know how you really feel about that girl who complicated the hell out of her life, and is only making it worse by the days. What would you do if she and the litter died? You must contemplate these things, and weigh the situations before saying ‘oh I am happy’ because that happiness can be swept out from under you, and you must consider if you will be happy in the long run.” Ishtar finished with his version of a blank face as he looked at the other, it had sounded as though he was rambling, but really he did want to know all of that. He wanted the best possible life for his adopted mother, and though he did not believe anyone deserved her, he would make do with what made her happy. If Raco made her happy, he would see that there was no way for the other to harm her harsh as it may be, Ishtar was more than willing to tell Val that there was no way in hell Raco cared about her, and that she should think of herself, that she only had herself now. Parts of those thoughts were because of his father and mother, but the others came genuinely from within.
Raco stared back at the boy, oblivious to Val's rush to empty her stomach, but not of her own will of course.
"You may react much older than you really are Ishtar, you still know very little of the world, you have seem little sorrow. Compared to the things I have seen and felt. You think I have not already lost a family? Twice in fact, I have lost a mate. I have no intentions of ever taking a mate; I will admit to that. But I am not one to sleep around. I refuse to look at the negatiities that may come out of this situation. I look forward to the future and it turns out for me again at the worst the it will not be a pain I have not already lived through before. I should be dead with all the pain I have lived through. I tried to kill myself once, Youko saved my life. Asha..." he stopped himself and stared at the floor of the hollow. He hadn't said her name in so long, his hear panged with hurt and sorrow. "She saved my life and I lost her as well. I know too much about the people you love being swept away from you."
He shook his head. This boy had nothing in the ideals of pain that could even amount to something close to what he himself had gone through. No, he admitted to himself, he was in love with Val, but that didn't mean he didn't care for her, love her, but in a different manner. He'd never take a mate, his heart could not allow him to do that for fear that he would lose them as well, so he refused to form a bond with any female, at least in that manner. No, he couldn't chance another females life because he sought happiness, it wasn't right.
Val leaned her head against a tree, with almost no intents and purposes to return to the hollow. She bit back the tears that threatened her, she felt as though she had jumped out of a speeding car… Ishtar seemed to hate her; why else would he shock her to the point she left? Val stayed shock still, debating what to do.
Ishtar quietly watched Raco without much change in his expression. “Then I don’t know what to say to you Raco, but I cannot allow her to hurt herself more. Val has done much in her life that would ruin people, some of it recent, and most of it you don’t know. Now that she is in this fragile disposition I’m not quite sure what I can do to help her. She seems to be fading in and out of darkness, and it seems she keeps being shoved towards the worst. Val needs to be cared for, she will never think of herself, and that will be her destruction. I’ve already lost one family; I do not need to lose her as well.” The young cat sighed and looked away, staring at the entrance of the hollow, at a loss of what to do for his adopted mother any longer. He wanted nothing more than to help her, but somehow knew there was nothing he could do to make her better. Ishtar stood, looking at Raco, turned, and left the hollow, desperately needing to sort out his limited ideas.
Valiant ended up wandering from where she was, keeping her eyes down and looking as normal as she usually did. She found the tree where she had spoken with Remi months before, and found herself more depressed than she had ever been. She turned her head and closed her eyes, feeling light headed. The female had to sit down in the thick floor, trying to understand what it was that she had done wrong. She needed a new life.
