Soldier side is obviously about soldiers going off to war and never coming home to their families.

MORE DEPTH TIIIIME! whee I think it's about trench life. I'm reading a book called Soldiers die in Bed, and a lot of this song relates to living in the trenches.
Dead men lying on the bottom of the grave Wondering when savior comes, is he gonna be saved Maybe you're a sinner into your alternate life Maybe you're a joker, maybe you deserve to die
Trenches were usually referred to as graves, and Maybe you're a sinner into your alternate life, Maybe you're a joker, maybe you deserve to die refers to their life outside the war. The men could be innocent, or they could be murderers, you never know. In war, technically the soldiers have no beef with the enemies, it's the politicians. You never see politicians fighting for their country.
They were crying when their sons left God is wearing black He's gone so far to find a hope He's never coming back
This is pretty much straightforward. They left their families in search of peace.
They were crying when their sons left All young men must go He's come so far to find the truth He's never going home
This is partially about the drafting of the war (I'm assuming this song is about world war 1, because that's what it reminds me of) and some of the people drafted are from like canada, or the united states and they have to travel overseas to fight for their countries. They may be there to fight to find themselves, or they may get killed. (Bear with these lyrics, by the way, they're really shitty and tell me if you find any errors. The site I found them on are usually incorrect.)
Young men standing on the top of their own graves Wondering when Jesus comes, are they gonna be saved cruelty to the winner bishop (what?), tells the king his lies Maybe you're a mourner, maybe you deserve to die
I think this is about when they're in No man's land, doing an attack to the opposing trenches, which are some 50 yards away from them.
The bishop and the king refer to chess, and the soldiers are all just pawns that the kings (dictators, presidents, etc...Or even the captains.) send out to do their bidding.
The last part speaks for itself, again. The soldiers could have their friends killed, or they could be the ones killing people on the opposing side.
Welcome to the soldier side Where there is no one here but me People all grow up to die There is no one here but me
In the end, all the soldiers are out there on their own. They haven't got their family, but they may have made friends in the war, but they could also end up dying. In the trenches, they are truly alone.
Welcome to the soldier side There is no one here but me People on the soldier side There is no one here but me
Mmmm, sadness. Read Soldiers Die in Bed. It's an awesome book.

Awesome interpretation. I say that if there was only one meaning to it, it's probably the one you found.
Maybe they read the book. It's like they mixed up the letters. 3nodding heart
