I deffinately recommend any book by Scott Cunningham. He provides a good solid foundation without any of the bias crap that some authors put into their books. With his words under your belt, you'll pretty much be able to discern the quality from the crap. Always keep in mind though, that these books are tools and guides merely, you have to make up your own mind about things, just like everyone else does. Go where you're comfortable with things.
3nodding I like Scott Cunningham too. There are others, I haven't looked at my book collection in a while. I'll see what I have...
My favorite crystal book is 'The Crystal Bible'.
The Golden Dawn has great info, but it's a little like reading an instruction/tech manual. lol. Very long and complicated for some. I do have "Initiation into Hermetics" by Franz Bardon, which is much easier to follow.
The Inner Temple of Witchcraft and The Outer Temple of Witchcraft by Christopher Penczak are very helpful in understanding magick. There are also meditation cd's by the same name.
Might be off-topic, but there are classes offered online too. My favorite has been www.witchschool.com because of the variety and quality of classes offered. They used to be really cheap and some classes free. However, I'm not sure anymore. I bought a life-time membership a couple of years ago, so I can take any class I want to.
I also enjoy 365 Goddess by Patricia Telesco. It is just really kewl to be able to look up a different goddess for each day and have ways to honor her.
Well, that's what I've got for now. If I think of any others that I really like, I'll post again.
