My mom lives in North Carolina, and every time we talk on the phone she manages to throw in a, "So, do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend yet?"
._.
I'm like, "NO Mom, I don't have a boyfriend or girlfriend, and I like BOYS, btw, so I'm definitely not going to have a girlfriend," and she's all, "I just want you to know that I'm open minded to whatever you do."
Well we went through all that yesterday and she asks if it bothers me that she always throws in the girlfriend part. It's just kinda weird to me bc I've told her multiple times that I'm 100% straight.
Here's the kicker: She tells me the reason why she says both is because she had a girlfriend in high school and part of college before she met my dad. I was all .______.
SO, it doesn't bother me or anything, it just came across as a HUGE surprise because for the last 18 years of my life I had always known her to be hugely in love with my dad (before the divorce). But now I know that my mom was (is?) at least bi. She and her girlfriend ran away from Venezuela to the US when they graduated high school to go to college here.
I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone.

Ahaha, I should! Sometimes with the language barrier she misses out on sarcasm though, lol.
What really got me about the whole thing was the fact that it didn't surprise me as much as I thought it would.
