Tower Courtyard
25 Quelle in the Reckoning of Lindon 1 Hisime in the King's Reckoning
~*~
Not yet even five minutes after being excused by Lady Nolah did Gil-galad rush through the towering gates of the Mindon Lindlieva. His courtyard was as vast as his tower was tall, for it was built to house the great stables of the nobility, as well as several garders. The walls of were adorned sculptures of great Noldorin and Sindarin princes of the past, and stairways curved up the inner wall.
Yet it was clear that Gil-galad cared not to notice the beauty of these things, for in his haste he cared only to find Isilien and Elithian. "So long have I been away!" despaired the Elvenking, "that my son could have wandered anywhere!" He bit his inner lip. Certainly, there must have been some way to find his children?
"Ai, ai!" cried he in sudden understanding. "I keep forgetting about osanwe!" The King then rose up, and could bearly contain his desire to double over, laughing at his moment of idiocy.
"Isilien!" cried he in the High Elven communication of thought (for affinity allowed him to more easily speak to her than it would be to his dear son), "I stand now in the tower's courtyard. Where art thou, and hath thee found Elithian?" Gil-galad smiled; his message conveyed, surely Isilien would soon answer.
Yet to be sure, he again sent his thoughts, but this time to Elithian. Less clear would they be, but it would not be energy wasted. "My son! I am relieved of my duties, and now I seeketh thee!"

Elithian came around the corner of the tower and saw where the call had originated. He sped up his pace until he was in a reasonable talking distance, then slowed to a walk.
"Here, father!" He said, still covering a bit of the distance between them.
"I had a few people I needed to get reacquainted with. I met up with dear cousin Glorfirith, and I could not help but stay and talk for a while."
Elithian had shocked himself. He hadn't talked so proper in years; he had been away from civilized society for quite a while.
((Please excuse the lateness of this post. I'm very sorry...))

Better late than never. wink
Gil-galad turned about the moment he heard his son's voice. Smiling, he too began to walk towards, speaking as he did. "Of course, of course" chucked he, "you've been home for but a few scant hours. It would be perilous to rush things!"
As the distance between father and son closed, an untold number of questions crossed his mind. Where had Elithian been for so many years? Why had he never returned until now? Along the same vein, what made the prince finally decide to come home? Hadn't Isilien been sent to the tower? Where was she? What happened to the eavesdropper? Which questions should he ask first?
Finally, as the two approached, he spoke again. "I pray, son, that thou have been living well for these past years?"

"Yes, Father...I have. And there are things about that you need to know. The most important of which being the true identity of our eavesdropper of earlier today."
Now that there was only a few paces between them, he stopped and took a hold of his right wrist with his left hand, standing comfortably.
"The truth is that... She is my wife. I married her nearly forty years ago..."
Elithian took a deep breath before telling his father what he thought would be the most startling news.
"And... We have a child...."

A child...
"Oh my..." said Gil-galad, as he sank to the ground below. "You are... a father..." stated he, as tears began to form amidst his eyes. "You have grown so much in your absence..."
Words seemed to fail the Elvenking for a brief while. He smiled; it was a weak one, for this news was indeed a shock, but he was quite happy for his son. Finally, he spoke. "You should have said something sooner! Your wife deserved a royal welcome, not a scolding!"
As he spoke, his grin grew. "Come now, Elithian, surely this eavesdropper you married has a name! And where is she? Is your child a boy or girl?" He hardly halted between question, for he was all too eager to hear of Elithian's tales. "You raised my grandchild well, did you not? I should pray to the All-father that it is healthy!"
After what seemed like minutes of questioning, Gil-galad realized it would likely be a good idea to le this son actually answer some of them, and so he bit his tongue. Oh, he simply could not wait to meet them again...

((I'm assuming "sank to the ground below" meant he's on his knees))
Elithian got down on one knee so he wasn't talking down to his father. "Her name is Ilisilia... She is a Silvan Elf born in Greenwood." He said, an almost magical quality to his voice.
As he pictured her face, and the face of his daughter he seemed to stare off into space, as if he hadn't seen either of them in years, when in reality, he had seen his wife just an hour ago.
After a few moments, he snapped back to reality. "As for the royal welcome, Ilisilia would not have enjoyed it as much as some would. She's not one to draw attention to herself."
"As for your grand-daughter, she is more the type that would enjoy such attention. Belinielle is already 38 years of age. She is already a beautiful young woman and I promise you I have raised her very well. She is a very intelligent girl, though I think she gets that more from her mother than from myself." Elithian chuckled softly, reliving a few fond memories.

Gil-galad smiled. "Ilisilia, you say? Her name is quite beautiful, son." He paused. "I wish I could say more of her! Even if a royal welcome would make her ill, I would wish to speak with her informally. And my granddaughter, Belinielle! 38 years already?"
He stood quite suddenly. "You do not think that you can keep me waiting to meet my own family!" laughed the king. "Come now, Elithian! Please introduce us!"

Elithian stood after his father and looked back in the direction that he came from.
"You can come out now... My father is ready to meet you."
He smiled and turned back to his father. "You'll have to suffer a little while longer to meet Belinielle. She is in Greenwood with Ilisilia's mother and father."
Elithian turned back again to greet his wife.

Ilisilia walked out and stood next to Elithian. She gave a fiant smile as she was very nervious because her first encounter with her lover's father was not the most formal.
"I am very pleased to be able to meet you... and this time on better terms, your majesty..."
Ilisilia seemed to cling lightly to Elithian's arm as she watched her new father in law carefully.

As Ilisilia stepped forth, Gil-galad's heart was warmed. "You are fair, my daughter," said he. "And I hear that formalities are not something you favour, so I shall be as informal as I can suffer, though it is not my norm." He reached forth and gently took her hand. Cupping both of his hands into her's, he continued. "I am happy to have you joined into House Finarfin. May your days with Elithian be long and happy!"
Slowly releasing his daughter-in-law's hands, he turned again to his son. "Greenwood, you say? Is that where you've been hiding?" He laughed. "Oropher is a good man. I am sure your stay has been a pleasant one, whether he knew who you were or not.
"A shame you left young Belinielle behind, though. I would have loved to meet her. Though I suppose she is yet too young to make such a journey." A twinkle in the king's eyes appeared. "Perhaps I instead shall make the journey, when I have assured the safety of our realm's borders?"

((Sorry!!! I haven't been paying attention. I didn't know you two had posted...XP))
Elithian smiled. "The three of us can make the journey..." He put a gentle kiss on his wife's cheek before turning to face his father again.
"Are our borders insecure as of late?"

The High King's lip curled just slightly. "Yes since the Akallabeth, the Enemy has been acting bolder than ever.." Yet his sour expressions did not dwell, and soon he smiled yet again. "But let us not concern ourselves with such matters at present. Today is a day of festival!"
Yes. Preparations for war would not begin ere the morn. That was Gil-galad's command at the counsel, and so it was.
