Broken

1. (General) Something/Someone that is so good in a particular context that it eclipses saecond place.

2. (Games) A game object or facility that is too good to exist. It is so powerful that it is unbalancing and hence breaks the game. Every winning player has to use this to be competitive.

Entymology: The power cards from Magic The Gathering (Black Lotus, Time Walk, Ancestral Recall, all Moxen, etc) were so powerful and unbalancing that they were eventually banned from tournament play because they BROKE the game.

At the latest local league meeting, I argued that the RX-8 is broken if they keep it in the "C-class" that it's currently in. The classes are ridiculously lax, since it's more for fun and whatnot... but I think that the car breaks the game. For those that don't know, this is how the "classes" work for us:

A = 8 or more cylinders, F/I 6 cylinders, twin-turbo rotary
B = 5-6 cylinders, F/I 4 cylinders, single-turbo rotary
C = 4 or less cylinders, N/A rotary

I can see the older RX-7s being given a break and let into the C-class, but I feel that the current "Renesis" rotaries are way too good. I think SCCA classes them in B-stock and STX, which are kinda high on the food chain. Anyway, the rest of the ruling board didn't agree with me, and it was decided that the RX-8 stay in the C-class.

So I'm wondering, if I were to pick up an RX-8... or maybe wait until the bigger 1.6L rotaries come out, just how much a** will it kick?

Quite a bit. BUT. Is this going to be your road car or a dedicated competition car? The greatest strength of the rotary is that it can handle absolutely stupid rev limiters(due to there being so few moving parts and the assembly design) However, to do that, the entire car becomes unusable(or a total dog to rive anyway) on the road.

Note however, that no amount of engine is going to compensate for a lack of grip: this is another strength of the rotary; the engine is in a very favorable place in the car to begin with. This makes it easier to keep the vehicle balance when you muck around with the suspension and tyres.

Well since the RX-8 will remain in the C class, and taking a look at the competition in the C class, it will obviously make fools out of the competition whether it be a Civic Si, Lancer, or anything else in the C class for that matter. I believe it even has a good shot at some cars with V6's such as a Mustang, Eclipse GT, and the non turbo version of the 3 series BMW. So I can see why you think it should be moved to the B class, it a good amount horsepower to hold its own.
