The Secret Place is a cave hidden behind the island's waterfall, where the children visited during their childhood. Sora and Riku first discovered it when they were young children. There is a door in the cave which is actually the Keyhole of the world. The cave's wall are covered in chalk drawings, some hinting at the earlier encounters of the children . Among them is a drawing of Sora and Kairi sharing a Paopu Fruit, as well as drawings of Donald, a chocobo, Disney Castle, and a monster coming out of a swirling ball. There's also a drawing on which you can see a dog facing a kid , this is most likely refering to the point where Pluto finds Sora in Traverse Town. Riku enters here near the beginning of the game and opens the door, unleashing the Heartless onto the islands. Whether he did so knowingly and willingly or not is not known, though it is likely that the words of Xehanort influenced him to do so.

 ๑۞๑ Nui Ginko ๑۞๑
As Nui entered the secret place, she found it dark, which wasn't very surprising since there was no light in there. She walked down the corridor like space until she emerged into the big room. It had multiple carvings in it, especially that from Sora and Kairi when they were small. She looked around, but didn't see anything, but she kept on her toes, she felt that there was something in there. She walked up to the wooden door and just stared at it, wondering where it went too. In a few moments the other two kids would be in there as well, or they were already in there before her. She wasn't that sure, she wasn't paying that much attention as she went in. She looked around, she remembered when she was a little girl, the first storm that came when her parents left her. Nui used to look at the carvings, which always seemed to calm her nerves a lot. Now Nui just looks at them for entertainment, but now was not the time.
Something of darkness was in that space and Nui wasn't sure what to do about it. It was really dark, and probably hostile, Nui could only hope that she, one of the kids, or all of them could be able to defeat it.

As Cari entered the cave, a chill ran down her spine. She didn't know why but she sensed something strange in the cave. Cari had been to the Secret Place plenty of time, but this was the first time she felt uneasy being here. But if something bad was in here, why did she feel drawn to know what it was. "Cari you're making a big deal out of nothing," she scolded herself. If it was something hostile, Cari was sure she could protect herself.

Roan stepped inside, noticing the girls behind him. He saw something in front of them and instantly backed up, looking back at the others as well. "Well... This isn't cool..." He scratched his cheek and rushed forward, regardless of the consequences. He kicked down at the creature, but his foot didn't make contact with it. Instead, it went straight through the darkness. Roan was quickly struck down. He started backing off again, looking at the creature in fear. The darkness? Wasn't the hear- This was a heartless! His face straightened and he stood up again. He ran towards the exit, grabbing both girl's hands as he did and pulling them with him. "Not smart to stay here. You can't beat that." He said quietly as they ran. He let go and performed a dodge roll through the small hole that seperated them from the outside of the cave.

Cari was confused, why did Roan just drag her back towards the entrance of the cave? Cari glanced back towards the dark cavern, what was inside there that scared Roan? Shaking her head, Cari decided to take Roan's advice to get out of there, that is until she noticed something, "My necklace!" It must have fallen off when Roan dragged her off. Without much thought, Cari ran back into the cave. She needed to find her necklace, it was the only thing she had from her real parents. As Cari ventured deeper, she found her necklace...in the hands of a shadow creature. "Heartless.." There was no way she could take on such a creature, but Cari had to try. It had in it's hands the key to her past.

Suddenly Nui looked behind her to see a heartless emerge from the shadows. "So, the heartless are coming back, that is not good" she said to herself. She turned full around to see a girl and a boy, but suddenly the boy took the girl's hand and came back, screaming something about a necklace. Necklace? Nui thought, then she looked down in front of her, a heartless had a necklace in it's hands. Soon the girl was back, apparently she knew what the black blob was calling it heartless. She looked at the girl "I see that this necklace is important to you, but how are you going to get it back?" it was a simple question. But her wooden sword was no good against such a creature, if only she had a keyblade with her. She could use magic, it wasn't very strong though... but then she thought that maybe the girl should get it. It was her necklace after all, she should be the one to retrieve it, not Nui.

Cari had no idea on how to defeat the heartless. She had read many years ago, a group of people called keyblade wielders could defeat the heartless. But she wasn't a keyblade wielder and neither was Nui. "What should I do?" Attacking the heartless was meaningless, her only option was to snatch her necklace and make a run for it. "Here goes nothing." Cari charged at the heartless, as the heartless leaped to attack her, Cari barely dodged it's attack. Trying again she managed to almost grab her necklace before feeling something strike her back making her fall to the floor. Turning onto her back, Cari began scooting away from the heartless as it approached her. Once it leaped to attack her once again, Cari closed her eyes waiting for her end to come, but she felt nothing. Confused Cari opened her eyes and realized she was no longer in the Secret Place. "Where am I?" Looking around she could see nothing but darkness. Below her feet was stained glass flooring depicting people she had never seen before. As she walked towards the center of the platform she was on, three objects appeared before her. A sword, a staff, and a shield. Not sure what to do, Cari automatically went for the sword since it was the item she was most familiar with. As soon as she touched the sword, all three weapons disappeared as a light surrounded her left hand, a strange weapon now in her hand. It looked almost like... "It can't be..." But it was, Cari had in her hands a keyblade. The background began to fade around her as Cari found herself back in the Secret Place with a heartless about to pounce on her. Almost instinctively Cari moved forward slashing at the heartless with the keyblade. It took only three hits from the keyblade before the heartless was defeated, Cari's necklace falling onto the cave floor with a resounding clang. Picking up her necklace Cari tied it around her neck, making sure the knot on the back was extra tight. It was then she realized the keyblade was still in her hand. "What do I do with this now?" Cari couldn't help but ask as she continued to stare at the keyblade. Was this thing really hers? Hearing the sound of a battle going on outside, Cari decided to check it out. There might be more heartless outside, if so she might as well make use of this keyblade for as long as she had it. ((Exits))

 ๑۞๑ Nui Ginko ๑۞๑
Nui saw the girl be dazed for a moment, but then she came too, with a keyblade in her hands. "She's a keyblade user, isn't she lucky" Nui said to herself. Soon the heartless was gone and the girl had put her necklace around her neck and left. Nui wasn't sure what to do next, she was alone in the secret place, safe to her heart's content. But it was also boring just sitting there and doing nothing, so she just shrugged and walked out. "No sense in staying here" she said as she walked out... but she took one last look to the wooden door before leaving. It was significant to something, she just didn't know what, but she may find out soon enough. ((Exits))
