Near the game area of the beach party there was a strip of pure beach, left for children to play in the sand. Several kids were building sand castles, while others were chasing sand crabs into their holes. A few others, the older ones, were working on their tans.

It was a typical beach area for people who just wanted to hang out.

Strangely enough there was a little girl who was barely over two feet, building a castle around (and sometimes on top of) a gargoyle boy. He didn't appear to mind, honestly, in fact, if you waited long enough he would let out a little snore now and again, proving that he was sleeping right through it.

A sunny-haired girl walked along the shoreline, warm brown eyes scanning the sand. This was fun, this whole "shell hunting" thing. The sea shells were pretty and they were free! What more could you want? Ginger aimed to get enough of them to make a bracelet, or maybe a necklace, or a crown... The bucket the swung loosely in her grip held the few sea shells she'd managed to find so far.

Her (usually unwilling) partner in crime sat further away from the water's edge, reading what appeared to be a cook book with a picture of Rachel Ray on the front. Didn't he know that you were supposed to play at the beach...not read? He was glad his sister was so intent on her shell search; if she'd caught him reading, she would have played keep away with his new book. Again.

Jordi glanced up as she caught sight of two kids a little older than her. They seemed busy, actually. She hesitated to call them over since as far as Jordi was concerned as long as you were busy it was irritating to be interrupted.

But it kind of sucked having a sand castle building competition and being the only one competing. She sat there for a long time, her brother rapidly loosing the tower of sand she had built on his head. It slid down his shiny hair, falling with a plop into the moat and causing the water to stop flowing. Not that she noticed. She was still deliberating.

Well she could at least ask, she decided, standing and heading for them. "Hey!" she called a bit rudely. "You two wanna join a castle building competition?"

Ginger blinked, looking up at the yell. Sand castle building, huh? She grinned, her previous task forgotten. "Sure!" she said, deciding for the both of them. "We'd love to!" She looked over to Zemel, skipping over to him and snatching the book away. "Come on, let's go!" she said, giggling.

Zemel blinked. Well...looks like they were entering a sand castle building contest. He stood up, taking his book back and dropping it onto the towel. "Sure, I'm game." he said, grinning. He paused a second, realizing something. "Oh! I'm Zemel, and this is my sister Ginger. It's nice to meet you...." He trailed off, waiting for the smaller child to state her name.

"Jordan," Jordan said. "I'm a dwarf." Which explained why she spoke like a ten year old but was the size of a three year old. "And that's my brother, Cobalt, he's mostly asleep right now, though, so I used him for my castle. Um, yeah, which means I'm the only one in the competition at the moment."

She paused. "We don't really have prizes, either, but it'll be fun, you know?"

"It's nice to meet you, Jordan." Ginger said, grinning. A dwarf, huh? Oh my gosh, that was so cool! "Prizes don't matter. As long as it's fun, that's all that counts." Well, fun and winning, that is. Couldn't forget winning. But still....a prize would be nice. "I got it!" she said, clapping her hands together. "Whoever wins gets the seashells!" she declared, holding up the bucket for emphasis.

"Well, he looks like he's making a good foundation for your castle." Zemel said, chuckling. "Wow....he's a deep sleeper, isn't he?" He took a seat in the sand, already starting to make a small mound of sand.

"He's a gargoyle," Jordan said with a nod. "He's supposed to be completely stone but the parents put this special cream on him so he's just sleepy all the time."

At which Cobalt let out a loud snore, toppling yet another tower that had been placed on his shoulder. Jordan sighed and sat down again, going back to work. "There's no rules, so you can do whatever you want to win." Which was strange to hear coming from a kid her age, but she figured they'd be more interesting that way. "Other than knocking someone else's down, of course."

Zemel nodded, intrigued. Gargoyle, huh? He'd read about those in one of Mom's story books. Cool. He grinned, getting to work on his. This would be interesting; this sand stuck better than the sand in the park! He could actually build with this sand.

"How does it work?" he asked, curiosity getting the better of him.

Ginger grinned. No rules? Just her kind of rules! "This is totally awesome." she declared, nodding once before plopping down in the sand. Now....where to start? She scooped some of the sand together, making a little mound. There; started!

"As far as I can tell you make mounds of sand and stick them places," Jordan said, standing and reaching to put yet another tower on her brother's head, since the first one had fallen off. "And you get extra points if it falls in an interesting way," she decided as it slid off his head and plopped onto his nose. He sneezed, then sleepily opened a golden eye to look at her.

She would probably be hearing about this later, she thought as he went back to sleep.

Morgan had declared this a great test of his and Skylar's courage, if they could manage to sit on the beach so close to such a large amount of water and not panic then they would be in his mind anyways victorious. The white haired Nu Mour child didn't want to do this, loathed and feared the water but he felt he had to try. Not that he even intended to go into the water but well he wanted it not to rule him and summer time was meant to be spent on beaches. Morgan couldn't be on a beach if he couldn't at least tolerate the presence of the water.

That and he had a tiny desire to see if he could actually make a seagull steal food from someone. Just a small use of his new power that seemed to come and go. At least here if he practiced it no one was likely to know or be paying much attention to him.

Skylar was shaking in his sandals with each step they took onto the sand. The long eared boy wanted to go home or as far away from the damned water as it was possible to get. After being doused as the neighbour's dog his innate fear had become worse and the boy was positive his twin was insane. However he'd agreed to come to the beach with him anyways and was regretting it with each step he took. " This is far enough" he insisted.

It seemed to be her day for meeting twins, Jordan thought with a hint of amusement. "Heyyy!" she yelled to the newcomers. "You wanna join our sand castle building competition? We need more players!"

Ginger looked up, smiling to the new people. Hey, another set of twins! Sweet! "C'mon, it'll be fun!" she added, waving them over. The more people, the better.

That's not what Zemel had meant, but okay. He smiled, focusing on building. He glanced up, waving a the new people briefly before focusing again on his castle. Concentrating boy was concentrating, and taking this whole "sand castle" building thing a bit too seriously.

Morgan grinned and nodded " Sure" Making a sand castle should be easy enough and though if he remembered right you needed damp sand you could just dig for the dark stuff. You didn't have to pour water on it which was good becuase that would have been a deal breaker for the Nu Mou child. " Can Skylar and I work together?" They were twins after all and for all they had different personalities they did work well together if they put their minds to it.

Skylar smiled a little at least the other children on the beach were friendly, it helped offset his nervousness a little. He'd probably also feel better if he took off his hat, the dark blue of it only drawing the sun down on him and making him sweat. Though the white haired boy was less concerned with sweat and more with the fact that the orange fur on their tails was likely to get sand in it

" It's ok it we have to work separate though" He did want to work with Morgan but he didn't want to be pushy about it.

"There's no rules, so I don't see why not," Jordan said. "I'm working with my brother. Kind of." Seeing as her brother was more part of the castle than part of the building process.

She frowned slightly, standing (at her full height of only a bit over 2 feet, maybe 2.5 on a good day) and walking around her castle. "Needs a train," she decided finally as she plopped back down and went to work.

Ginger grinned; more people to compete with and eventually beat. That was her mindset, anyways. She had to win, even if she didn't have much experience with this sand stuff and despite the fact that her castle, at the moment, was just a mound of sand with holes poked in it for windows and one big, awkward, bucket-shaped tower.

Zemel was progressing a bit more on his; he had a cube-ish looking structure with rectangle scratched into it. "A sand train would look cool." he commented, smiling. Well, it sounded cool, anyways. He worked on building up a mound of sand on one corner; that could be a tower, or a garage, or.... The gears in his head started turning, spitting out all the possibilities they could find for one pile of sand.
