Joshua was thorougly unhappy with the arrangement his parents had made. The two adults were at home, and in the boy's opinion, being lazy. He'd had to take the twins, yes both of them, to the toy store with his younger brother. Josh didn't mind Vinny, the two boys usually got along fairly well. The girls were the problem. They made looking for a present to give a cabbage extremely difficult.
Annoying, loud, troublemaking toddlers.. It wasn't fair to expect children to watch them. Especially when one of the said children was busy looking at toys. Vincent had a habit of gazing longingly at each item they passed. Sammi had clearly learned from his example.
"I wan dat!" The toddler with ponytails said from her seat in the cart. She was pointing one of her chubby fingers at a rather pink box. Joshua grimanced. Samantha was the more active, social one. Also the bossiest and the quickest to anger.
"We're not buying for us today, Sammi." He tried to explain. "Uncle Zee's got a baby on the way--so we're buying a present for him or her."
"I wan dat, too!" Reiya said, pointing to the same box. Joshua looked helplessly at his younger brother, in hopes that Vinny could calm them.
Vincent tore his eyes from a set of Star Wars action figures, to shake his head at the two toddlers. "We're not buying for us today, Rei. Like Josh said."
Both girls had an identical frown on their faces. Sammi's arms were crossed, while Reiya's hands were neatly folded. And both had the same look their mother got--whenever she was planning something.

There was another figure in the toy store who wanted everything, or at least everything in the stuffed animal section. "But, but, but, who's gonna pr'tectm if I don't?" Wide blue eyes looked up at the pastry chef that was Luvenia Harte's guardian, guilt tripping mercilessly. "They need me, I gotta take care'f em or they'll get BAD PARENTS'r summing..." She already had her arms full of stuffed toys and was currently reaching for another, sho she had dubbed 'Susan'. Meanwhile, Reginald Harte was remembering why he hadn't ever taken his daughter to a toy store before. She got attached to things, and not just toys. There were at least six spoons in his kitchen he couldn't use because she had drawn faces on them and given them personalities. "...Fine. Okay, fine, just take..."
"Sus'n." Luvenia offered helpfully.
"Take Susan too, but now we are going to the checkout." He ran a hand through his straggly brown hair tiredly as Luvenia chirped with glee. "Suuuus'n!" she exclaimed, grabbing it and making the already large pile in her arms teeter dangerously. "Sus'n, Sus'n, Su-!!"
Reginald groaned. "Now what are you looking at?"
Luvenia was looking at Reiya. "...Polly!" she exclaimed and dropped her clearly inferior stuffed animals. "PollyPollyPolly!"
Her guardian chased after her. "No, you can't buy that one!"

While the boys were busy looking at the toys, and trying to find one decent enough for a cabbage, Samantha tried getting out of the seat she was tied into by the 'stuffid' seat belt. It was keeping her in! It had no right to do that! Being the vain toddler she was, she rather thought Luvenia was talking to her, not her sister.
"Hi!" The freckled toddler said with a wave. "Hi Birdie!" At least the nickname fit the girl before her. Last time, she'd given out nicknames that didn't fit the person at all. Meaning anyone with pointed ears was a 'Kitty'.
Reiya looked at the older toddler for a moment. "I nuh a Polly. I Weiya." She said.
Joshua and Vincent just couldn't agree on what to get the cabbage. Josh sighed. "Let's get him both then." He said, holding up a teddy bear.
"But you said we were going to get ice cream after..." Vinny started.
"Yeah, but we can't agree. So let's get him both, go home and ask Mom for some ice cream money!" Both boys seemed happy with this idea.

This suggestion put forth by Reiya was considered and then completely ignored. "Daddy, hurry up 'fore someun' else gets her!"
At this point, her attention was caught by Samantha, and she immediately grew attached to her as well. "Franny!" she exclaimed, latching on to the cart like a clamp. "Polly 'n Franny, DADDY!"
Reginald caught up, looking somewhat winded. "Those aren't for sale." Catching sight of the older boys near the cart, he attempted to drag Luvenia away before they noticed, but her eyes welled up with tears. "Oh, no... Luvvy, come on, what about Susan?"
Luvenia wailed. She didn't want stupid old Susan anymore! She wanted Franny and Polly!

Reiya frowned slightly, as did her twin. "I nuh Polly," she explained in the wisest and gentlest way a toddler could. "I Weiya. Who ooo?" The freckled toddler wasn't quite as gentle as her sister.
"Franny icky name. I Sammi!" Sammi was the best name in all Gaia. It was hername. "Say Sammi. I bess Sammi ever was." She explained rather vainly. "Ooo Birdie." She pointed a tan finger at the winged girl to make her point. "Birdie!"
By then, Joshua and Vincent had turned to look at what was causing their younger sisters to be so excited. Josh had a teddy bear dangling from his right hand, while Vinny carried a box of legos. "Well, if she wants them that badly," Joshua started in that 'I'm going to tease my younger brother while I have the chance,' voice, "She can have them."
Vinny didn't find this very amusing. He frowned, and shot a glare in his older brother's direction. "They're ours," he muttered. He wasn't about to share his sisters with anyone. Except Josh. He had to share with him.

"And you can have them." Reginald assured the two boys quickly. "We were just leaving, right Luvenia?"
Luvenia clung to the cart and sobbed, looking at the boys pleadingly. She didn't want to go yet. "He's 'n awful man, don' make me go, don'-"
"Okay!" Reginald said, letting go of her arm and giving in. Luvenia's sobs died down to sniffles and she loosened her grip on the cart slowly until it was clear she was not going to be made to leave her desired purchases just yet. She might still be able to talk him 'round after all!
"Weiya and Sammi." she repeated. Polly and Franny were better names, but if her new charges wanted to be called that, that was fine too. "I'm Luvvy." She turned to Josh, who seemed to be the negotiator around here and pointed at him. "He says I c'n have em, Daddy!"

Vinny nodded, a gesture that showed his relief. So he wouldn't have to fight over them. That was good. He hated conflict. "I'm Vincent," he said, glancing towards the adult. "This is my brother, Josh, and my sisters, Sammi and Reiya." He gestured to each as he introduced them.
Joshua shook his head at Luvvy, smiling slightly. "I was teasing, Luvenia. That's your name, isn't it?" He looked up at the man, rather apologetically. "I heard you say her name," he explained hastily. "You can't really have them, but you can be their friend if you want to be. I'm sure they wouldn't mind."
"Fwiend," Sammi agreed with a nod. "Luvvy Birdie. Fwiend? Kay?" She asked empathically. Reiya on the other hand, had lost interest in the conversation almost completely. She was back to looking at the large pink boxes that held dolls within them. Oh, she wanted one!
