It was late afternoon when Allan left the teepee. Adsali had gone out for herbs, Zuilian was out meeting with Lukou, and Candy Heart had left late the night before to go exploring. In other words, the stallion was bored beyond belief. With a shake of his short mane, he darted out and galloped full speed towards the river. Who knows, maybe he'd find an adventure of his own there.

Puchi Puri was a soquili who was rarely bored. Given her heritage and the family she came from she was surprisingly good at entertaining herself. Thriving in the company of others yet perfectly capable of surviving for a period of time in solitude, she could find enjoyment in the simpler things in life. From the discovery of a new flower to the manner in which the fish played with one another in the stream, it was all a source of entertainment for her and she was rarely unhappy. Ah yes, the petite mare normally had little to complain about and for the most part lived a life of optimism. This afternoon was of no exception and filled with the same enthuasiasm as ever she had taken a break from her friend and his education to continue with her crusade because as much as she may have enjoyed the company of Ornias and teaching him how to play good games; the bunnies still had to be saved.

She had a job to do!

Thus it was with this in mind that she had taken flight this morning and glided upon the warm air currents towards her destination. Where that destination was remained to be seen, the general routine she lived by tended to include falling out of the sky as and when the spirits had decided that she had reached the place she was needed. It was just as well they favoured her and she often landed in water or thick bushes to ensure minimal damage to her form. She suspected that this afternoon would be no exception but with this thought barely reaching the back of her mind she proceeded on with relative cluelessness.

Sure enough within a few more minutes of flight her destination had been picked for her and a surprising jolt of wind knocked her out of her stupor and sent her careening downwards. An initial shriek of surprise followed and then a giggle as she flapped her wings to regain her stability. She'd gotten the message and thankfully the spirits had provided her with the opportunity to right herself and land comfortably on her own merit (as there were no bushes in sight). Slowly but surely she spiralled downwards and eventually her hooves skimmed the tops of the long grass. Arguably, her landing was to be a graceful one or should have been had it not been for the fact that Puchi did not excel at landing in the slightest - in fact, she was really very good and making a dramatic entrance.

Her wings gave another flap and stilled to a glide, all seemed well and then her hooves caught on the grass again. Balance lost the mare gave another yelp and tumbled, rolling in the air once before tumbling into the grass beneath her. Well, it wasn't like she had been attempting to impress anyone but somewhere at home either her mother or uncle would me covering his face with his wing in exasperation!

Allan was startled out of his reverie by the yelp of...well he wasn't quite sure as he'd never heard a yelp before. Curious, he went towards the direction of the noise. Upon entering the area he suspected it coming from, he found a heap of...well was she a mare or not? He came in for closer inspection a bit warily. Lucky or not, Allan was no fool. He decided caution was the better part of valor in this case and when he was a good distance (in his mind) away from the heap he called out, "Excuse me, but...are you quite alright?" Mentally the stallion smacked himself with his tail. Really, what kind of stupid question was that? Of course they probably weren't alright. Whoever it was had ended up in a relatively unmoving heap.

Clearing his throat Allan tried again, "Err, that is.... Could you use some help getting right ways up?" Yes, that was a much better question. He sounded like less of a moron that way. Pleased with himself, he waited for...err...well whoever it was, to respond.

Never one to be kept down for long, there wasn't much time between her collision with the ground and her recovery. With a squirm and a rather exhuberant flap of her wings the mare clambered to her hooves once more and gave an almighty shake. Her braids clapped against the side of her neck, her rump gave a wiggle and while her wings remained outspread they did give the occasional ruffle as if to regain feeling. She'd never been the sort to be concerned with her composure but she was well aware of the worry that some might have in regards to her otherwise clumsy nature - afterall, when most creatures fell out of the sky it generally spelled disaster...for her it just meant mild discomfort and an ache here and there.

Nevertheless she was quick to pick up on her company and as she gave another ruffle of her wings she turned her head and provided him with a sheepish grin. All in all she was fine, she was completely healthy and unphased by her entrance. Admittedly she was somewhat 'guilty' about the reaction she'd received from her visitor but she was certain that a smile and reassuring words would make everything better. They always did - or at least they sort of did depending on the creature and whether or not they were worriers.

"Oh I'm fine," she announced merrily and at last folded her wings against her sides. The feathers could do with a good grooming but she would get to that in time. "Just a miscalculation, it happens! Terribly sorry if I surprised you but at least I didn't land on you, that happens sometimes... Can't say very many creatures appreciate it," she added after a few moments and giggled. "But thank you for asking!"

Allan gave a light chuckle and ambled forward. He was glad to see she was unhurt. Bowing slightly, he straightened and smiled, "Well it's true those things happen, but I'm glad to see you're alright Miss. The name's Allan. What's your name?" He had never met someone with wings before. This was a rare delight indeed. True his herdmates were a unicorn and a regular soquili, but it was always nice to meet new breeds.

Well, it would have been inaccurate to consider Puchi a purebreed given her heritage but she did have wings at the very least. Both she and her brother possessed them, yet their more scholarly triplet had been left without them. It wasn't a source of envy or tension between any of them though given that the family saw strength in both its grounded and airbourne members. She was lucky in that respect, there was little pressure on her to conform to any set standards (with the exception of a few rules) and as such she couldn't quite comprehend the pressures and drama that existed in the lives of some of those she had met in the lowlands. In the words of her Uncle Fenghuang - wings were incredibly overrated a lot of the time.

Nevertheless she unfurled a wing briefly to nudge the braids from her eyes and smiled brightly at his acceptance of her explanation. It was just what she wanted to hear! Oho, she was a lucky mare today; she'd crash landed and sure enough she had been introduced to a light hearted stallion. Take that grumpy old farts, all of which lectured her on discipline and precision every time she crashed. She gave a little shake of her rump in anticipation and giggled.

"What a strange name," she murmured after a moment, blinking twice before continuing. "My name's Puchi Puri but everyone just calls me Puchi because I'm so small!" Her grin widened and she folded her wing against her side again. Returning her gaze to the stallion she canted her head to the side after this and popped her equine lips. "You know, you've got some of the coolest hair I've ever seen..." she cooed appreciatively. "Most of the stallions wear it so flat around here but you have this punk look going on - totally suits you. Yep yep!"

Oh this mare was a such a dee-light! He laughed out and smiled.
"Why thank you Puchi. I rather like it myself and my two-legger seems to find it agreeable." He thought for a moment and positively beamed at his idea, "Is there anything in particular you'd like to do since you seem to have been dropped at my feet as it were."

He was a merry stallion and very much one who loved adventure. He also loved to make others smile and she seemed to be the type to do so easily.

"Just name it and I am at your service Miss Puchi!"

Hmmm... What did she want to do today? She hadn't really given it a great deal of thought if she were honest. She thrived on spontaneity and pottered through life without much consideration for long term goals. Each morning she set out in search of company, if it brought adventure then that would be an extra bonus! However, true to her word and the promises she had made to her family she didn't deliberately set out to find adventure or as her uncle and mother liked to refer to it; 'trouble'. Therefore his question was a bit of a puzzling one and she pulled a face as she considered his query - was there really something she wanted to do?

Well, with the exception of not wanting to tumble out of the sky again there wasn't a great deal she knew of. At this moment her tummy took the opportunity to rumble, reminding her none to delicately that she did in fact require breakfast before moving on to more strenuous activities. While most other mares would have blushed considerably at this, squealed with embarassment at the wayward behaviour of their own body, Puchi merely glanced round at her tummy before chuckling. Her usual smile lifted the corners of her lips and with a twinkle in her eyes she returned her gaze to her new companion.

"Well," she replied at last. "I should think that my tummy would appreciate some attention," she mused wisely and canted her head to one side. "So if you happen to be aware of anywhere that serves up a nice breakfast I'd say I'd be aiming for that right now!"

Allan beamed. He knew just the place for a good breakfast. There was his favorite tree just a short gallop away. He wondered if she liked to run.

"Well Puchi, I know of a very old apple tree with lots of yummy apples. Are you interested?"

He loved the late fall apples. They seemed so much juicier this time of year or maybe it was his imagination.
PostPosted: Mon Aug 31, 2009 4:54 am

Apples! If she had been of a paler colour her cheeks would have flushed pink in delight, alas her family's darker coat was enough to hide her pleasure in that regard. Apples were not a common thing on the slopes and while she had been born in summer she hadn't had her first taste of such sweet foods until a much later date. Suffice to say she hadn't yet grown out of her love for the sweet and succulent fruit and the opportunity to a few of them wasn't something she was about to pass up - she was significantly more intelligent than that after all... Contrary to belief.

"Very." She replied grimly, attempting to hide her delight though the twinkle in her eyes and quaver in her voice betrayed her. It was one thing to be hungry and to dine on a tasty patch of grass, it was an entirely different matter when it involved apples. She was more than just a little interested in that food and so she gathered herself together and propped her wings close to her side as she awaited his guidance. That being said she wasn't the fastest of runners, her eldest brother had always held that trophy high above his head but unlike Chetan she didn't mind a gallop either - it was exhilirating to have the wind dart through her hair and to whip it into a frenzy!

"So lead on, my friend!"

Allan was extremely happy. He loved sharing his favorite snack with others. Turning he headed west away from the river. The place wasn't that far and he took off at a full gallop.

"It won't be too long. It's just over the horizon. Hope you don't mind the run!"

He called out to the winged mare as he led her to the promised snacks.

Puchi Puri was suitably ill versed in the art of galloping. It wasn't that she disliked the activity but it was a well known fact that the majority of winged soquili couldn't run at quite the same pace as a grounded one. Thus, her gallop was much slower than his own and it took her considerable effort to keep him within her sights. Such was her strain that after a short while she was hit with a stroke of 'genius' and promptly took flight. She'd never had an issue when it came to launching herself into the air, it was merely the landing that caused her difficulty.

Thus, it was with a small giggle of triumph that she swept upwards into the sky and bopped here and there. Her hooves brushed jauntily against the tips of the tall grasses as she pursued her quarry on the unsteady air currents. Eventually she would catch up to him but her progress was much quicker despite her lack of grace when she opted for this method of transport.

...She just hoped he didn't mind the sudden crash when the inevitable moment of landing was upon them.

Allan heard her trudging along behind him. He slowed down a little and decided to let her catch up. He noticed that suddenly her hoofbeats ceased. He was bewildered for a moment before he remembered that she was a wind Soquili. He chuckled and shook his head before continuing on to where the apples where.

Had she known of his surprise she would have somehow drawn it into a disappearing act, a magical performance. Alas, the mare was still struggling against the unsteady air currents and bobbed here and there just above the tips of the long grasses. Eventually they reached the apple orchards though and while the stallion would soon settle himself the mare had a bit more to do in the way of ensuring her own comfort. For a start she would have to land, and in the process, ensure that she had found a place suitable enough that she wouldn't be injured aka a very soft patch of grass or an unfortunate bush.

This in mind, her wing beats became a little more sporadic and then with a small yelp she vanished from view. Her family would have been well aware of what this noise meant - she'd simply tripped again. However, before anyone had the opportunity to ask if she was alright her petite frame had reappeared above the grasses. Admittedly, she didn't appear by much given her height, but she seemed completely unharmed. Dishevelled as always she began to wade her way towards the stallion and what she anticipated would be a good breakfast...

Allan whirled when he heard the yelp and resulting thud of her fall. He had been just about to ask if she was alright when the mare reappeared...somewhat. He watched in mild disbelief as she waded towards him.

He laughed, he couldn't help it. It was wrong of him, but her mane was now fill of bits of grass and twigs. Coughing to cover his laughter, he gave the winged mare a warm smile, "We're almost there now. Just one more hill and you'll be tasting the sweetest, juiciest apples you've ever bitten in to."
