Is it really about clothes or is it a life choice, an attempt at a new albeit retro perspective?

Hippie is a stereotype, so I guess it depends on what your own definition of hippie is. And just like all stereotypes, you will always get posers, who will get all the right clothes, listen to all the right music, say all the right things in the right, way, but will unevitably, eventually move on to the next thing. So no biggie, I guess. rolleyes

Most people identify the word "hippie" with tye-dye wearing, non-showering, un employed, long haired stoners. But as we have discussed before, those kind of things don't mean a thing.

To me, hippie is as much a fashion statement as goth is about wearing black. It's not. At all. Though it's fun... but it's rather annoying that it's in style now... then again... Now you can find hippie clothes lots of places. cool

It's more like an anti-fashion statement.
I really don't care what I look like at all.

Neither hippie or punk should have anything to do with fashion, seeing as how neither of them originally cared how they looked (except punks reflected the militant "******** authority" attitude and hippies reflected the laid back "hang loose, man" attitude).

Naw. Hippy is a state of mind. Besides my long hair, I look almost nothing like a "hippy" (except maybe when I go on barefoot hikes).
My friends call me a hippy because I believe in the power of expressing your emotions and that I believe that "love is all there is." Stuff like that.

To me, hippie-dom is all about being good to yourself, all human-beings, and the Earth (in no particular order! whee )

I'd say that being a hippie is definitely a way of life rather than a style. I made myself some giant bellbottoms, but usually I just throw on a T-shirst and jeans for school. Hippies should care very little about appearance, as that's quite a bourgeois thing to be worried about.

" a hippie is someone who is aware- you're hip if u kno wats going on. but if ur really hip u dont get invovled with lsd and stuff. u see all the pontentail that can come from it and the good that it can do. but u also see that u dont relaly need it"
George Harrison
that was his view on a hippie...so yes for ppl of for the fade of the moment it is a style. but ther are those who truly take the hippie life style to heart and stick wiht it.

Haha, I'm sorry but the way you used no caps, and appreviations like "u" in the George Harrison quote made me laugh! I wonder if he would write it the same way. biggrin But as for the topic, I agree with everything Durango said. Minus1muse
