Faolan was sitting on the floor at Ellandra's feet where she was comfortably reclining on their couch, staring intently at her exposed stomach, her shirt having been pushed up by him. He'd been sitting that way for the past twenty minutes at least, ever since he'd seen a tiny foot press against her belly from inside while kissing her tummy. Now he was waiting to see if one or both of the twins would do it again.
"Are they moving at all, Elle?" he asked, adjusting his position so he was on his knees, arms resting on her thighs.

"Do they ever stop?" Ellandra asked, wincing a little at a motion from one o the twins. "I think one just kicked my ribs somehow," she murmured, looking at her exposed - and huge, disturbingly huge - belly. She rather wanted to pull her shirt back down, but Faolan wanted to see if he'd spot a footprint again. Though the brunette doubted either of the twins would comply just because their father wanted to see such a thing, she wasn't going to shoo her husband away because of her weak - and growing ever weaker - self-esteem and increasing embarrassment.

"Ah, well. At least I got to see that. I didn't know they could do something like that," Faolan said, leaning forward and hugging her, nuzzling against her belly. One of the twins kicked at that moment and he pulled back, blinking. "If I didn't know better, I'd say one of them just kicked me on purpose."
He grinned up at his wife, then noticed her expression. "What's wrong, Elle? You look like someone just peed in your oatmeal." He tugged her shirt back down over her belly, figuring that was part of it, even though he liked his pregnant wife's body and saw no reason for her not to show it off. She was a sacred vessel or some goofy thing like that--one of the ladies in the camp was always yelling at him to be better to Elle because of that. Sacred vessel made his wife sound like she was a bucket of blessed water, and so he decided he'd likely never mention that he was chided often by some of the ladies for not catering to his "sacred vessel's" every need twenty-four hours a day.

Ellandra sighed softly. "They'll do it again sometime, Faolan, but not when you're expecting it, I think - and yes, I think you were just kicked on purpose." At least one of the twins was making a habit of kicking at Faolan every time he nuzzled her belly; some part of the brunette suspected it was the little girl, Beltaine. Not that it was anything other than coincidence, surely, but still . . . it was mildly amusing in a way.
When Faolan asked her whaat was wrong, though, she bit her lip and looked away, reaching up to fiddle with her necklace. "It. . . well, nothing in particular, really," she said quietly after a few moments. "I was just thinking, that's all."

"Thinkin' about what, lover?" the young man asked, tilting his head to the side. "I like hearin' your thoughts. It's what gets me up in the mornin'. Well, that and pancakes."

Ellandra bit her lip again. "I think the pancakes do more," she said softly, then closed her eyes a bit. "But . . . these thoughts are rather sad, Faolan. . . I'm . . . I'm not really sure how to share them. . ."

"You know I love you more than pancakes, Elle," Fao chuckled, then sighed. "Sad thoughts or not, I wanna hear them. I feel like I'm failin' you as a husband when you donnae let me try to help you."

"I'm sorry, Faolan," Ellandra said, grabbing for his hand and then wincing as she got kicked in the ribs again. "You're not failing me. . . if anything, I'm the one making the mistakes here." She paused for a moment, her eyes watering a bit before she scrubbed the gathering tears away from her eyes with her free hand. "I just. . . don't see how you could think I'm . . . I'm - I never was pretty, not even before, but now - and - and now Lee's here and - and . . ." She trailed off as she lost coherency, not able to fully describe the feelings that had been bogging her down lately, her attempts at explaining coming out as a jumbled mess.

Faolan's ears went up a bit, eyes widening, then he gave her an incredulous expression, figuring she was just teasing him. "You? Not pretty? La, girl, you're gorgeous. Even more so haulin' my bairns around. Lee ain't got anythin' at all to do with how I feel about you. I love you more than anything, Elle. You're my other half. How could I not love you?"
He moved to sit on the couch beside her, pulling her into a hug and stroking her hair. "Ay, love, is that what's been botherin' you? You think you have to compete with Lee? I care about her, but I donnae love her, not exactly, I suppose. She could never compare to you."

Ellandra shook her head, dashing at her tears again. "No . . . no I'm not, Faolan, I - I never was, how could I be any better now when - when I'm a balloon with legs?" She bit her lip, closing her eyes and ducking her head. "And - and I - I know that - that Lee's b-better than I - I am, yes she's -she's young b-but. . ." And there went her coherency again. Letting feelings build up inside just wasn't a good idea in Ellandra's case, it seemed. They tended to bubble over into an incoherent explosion of sadness.

Faolan just sighed, not even sure where to begin on the whole mess. "You're not a balloon. Sure, you're a puffy version of your normal self, but you ain't any less beautiful. Turn me on now as much as you ever did, maybe more so, but I might just havin' somethin' wrong with my head. I ain't sure." He scooted about on the couch so he could face her, one leg under him and the other on the floor. "Look, Elle. Lee ain't better. Different, sure, but I ain't leavin' you for her and I don't plan to. I care about her, but I'd be a shite not to after draggin' her into this mess. You're the one I love. I donnae know how else to convince you of that."

Ellandra kept her eyes closed and ducked her head. "I'm sorry, Faolan,. . . I I'm sorry, this is just m-making it worse, isn't it?" She chewed on her lip for a moment and then flinched as one of the twins decided now would be a good time to punch out her spleen. "I - I'm being silly, I know and I want to belive you, but at the same time - at the same time it almost feels like I shouldn't because it - it seems so impossible that I'd be worth anything to anyone, even now. . . "

Faolan just rubbed his face with one hand. Women. Honestly. "Elle, you are worth more to me than all the money of Drente, worth more than the life of any other person. There are no words for how much I love you. New words would have to be invented and they'd still pale to how much I feel for you." He watched her a bit, then rested a hand on her belly. "Oi, bairns. Quit beatin' up your dam, eh? We're talkin' here."
He tilted her chin up so Elle would look at him. "You ain't makin' it worse, Elle. I think it's a lot to deal with on top of the emotions you got from bein' pregnant. If anyone's to blame in this, it's me."

Ellandra blinked away the tears that were still threatening to rise in her eyes, and bit her lip. "You're not to blame, you're not. . . .I think . . ." She paused and licked her lips, then winced as the unrepentant twins proceeded to kick again. "I think," she continued, "If - if anyone's to blame, for anything, it's Lee's mother and that awful William."
