On the edge of the forest, the brink of the wild, the grasslands stretched on and on until they faded into desert, and someday the desert faded into mountains. A soft orange wolf stood on that edge, peering toward the unseen desert. Which way should he turn? Into the heat and wild that he preferred, or the forest, to start a new life? Or maybe he should simply wander in the prairie, alone. Maybe if he walked far enough, he would find the mountains, and maybe in the mountains was something new.

The lines that traced over his body were as haphazardly placed as the path he'd walked in life; traipsing here and there 'til kingdom come, sometimes finding companionship but generally ruining it at some point. For once, he was at a loss as to where to go.

The sun set and turned golden fields to red, deepening the shadows of the woods, and Drover sat, waiting for dawn to bring him a sign.

She might not have been the exact sign he had been looking for, but she bulldozed through the treeline, exploding out with power as she leapt.
She seemed to be running aimlessly, and indeed she was.
She had felt like a good run this morning, it had seemed such a good day for it.

She threw up her head, her mouth hanging open as her eyes were closed in joy. She was having such a good time. The only way for it to get better was to run into her sister, or to meet another guy.

She had met a few since their arrival here. But she had not taken all of them seriously. She had not needed to.
She was free like the wind, and wasn't sure it was in her best interest to settle down.
She wasnt sure how long she'd be here anyway.

But as she lowered her head, she saw the orange wolf sitting in front of her, and she almost didnt have time to jump to the side.
She lept out of the way just in time, missing him by only so much.
When she missed, she bounded around to face him and smiled.

"Im sorry about that!"

Drover heard the oncoming wolf long before she sprang into view--after all, when running pel-mel through the woods, there is no real way to keep quiet--but he at first assumed the runner would turn off, staying within the woods. When the noises continued to get louder, he assumed she would turn aside or stop before reaching his position, having seen or otherwise sensed him. What he was not expecting was for her to leap past him and then spring up before him, sticking around to atone for her error. He was on his feet immediately, in case she was a threat--in which case, he would be running headlong through the woods. From the expression on her face, though, he could tell she meant no harm.

In front of him was a pink-blotched grey female, posing no threat, and as long as she was around he could use the company, until she couldn't stand his. "Err, no harm done, sheila," he said, "nothing wrong with a bit of a bush bash in the evening. You're not, uh, running from anything, are you?" It wouldn't hurt to cover all his bases--he didn't need a not-so-kind visage to come bursting through the trees and find him talking to its quarry.

She had at first been rather cautious, but as he spoke, she loosened up and couldnt help but smile again. He was a handsome wolf.. Shades of orange with different shades of red that ran along his body.

She smiled again.
"You have a strikingly amazing pelt."
She winked, and showed her side a bit.

"Almost as striking as mine." She teased, though it was all in fun. She had alot of energy, and she had yet to meet a stranger.

"Whats your name?"
She asked. She heard him call her Sheila, and perked an ear. Her name was not Sheila.. How could he just -assume- that was her name?

"Im called Turbo."
She said, hoping to set him straight as polite as possible, should he have called her a different name.

She chuckled at his question.
"You dont need something behind you to enjoy the feel of a good run."
She nodded, her voice musical.

"Well, thank you, there, Turbo," he said, saying the name so he would remember it, at least as long as he needed to. Turbo--it fit her, if rushing headlong into strangers was typical for her. "You are something of a looker yourself." He relaxed into a sit, his tail thumping on the ground as his tongue lolled out of his mouth. She seemed excitable, with no tendency to take things seriously, as he had been just a minute ago. It wouldn't hurt to sit and have a conversation.

"Folks call me Drover," he said, in response to her question, "So I s'ppose you can, too, if y'like. 'Fraid I can't agree with your last point, dearie; never much for senseless exertion, myself."

She'd been told plenty of times she was a looker, but each time she was told she still managed to blush a bit. Her eyes twinkled and she nodded.

"Pleasure to meetcha, Drover."

So he didnt like to run, eh? Oh it was fine with her, she really was just a wolf who could quite easily adapt to anyone. She was pretty good with most she met.

"Well thats okay, Im sure I do enough of the senseless exertion for the both of us on a daily."
She chuckled, sitting and curling her tail around her font legs.
Her ears were perked, and she held herself tall.

"I'll gladly call ya Drover."
She wagged her tail now, letting it thump against the earth softly.

"So whatcha doin' way out here?"
She asked, cocking her head and smiling.
"Do ya live out here?"

He could spin 'senseless exertion' a hundred ways, but he didn't want to scare her off, yet. If she stuck around too long, he'd be off-putting on purpose to get his solitude back, but at the moment he'd wear his good side.

"I could ask you, what're you doin' way in here?" he responded, but without bite. "I come from the desert," he continued, "farther than all this grass. Just decidin' whether or not I should try out the trees for awhile."

His bright green eyes roved along her body as she sat. She used the posture of someone used to being in authority, or at least not deferring to anyone else. Was she from a pack? That confidence usually came from being surrounded by others and having nothing to fear.

If he had made his comment, he woulda found the female didn't mind a bit of risky talk. She was a bit open, in more ways than one.

"I'm looking for interesting company." She nodded, smiling, her tail wagging.
"Though I live a bit away from here.. Im mostly exploring these new lands."
She had a purr of a voice; seductive and feminine.

She belonged to no pack, being a loner and not really having the want to -ever- join a pack. She and her sister were travelers, and she would never be tied down..
That, and she cared about herself and her sister before anyone else.. She could never promise pack loyalty.

She stood and flicked her tail. The way she moved seemed to emit a sexual vibe. She loved males, and didn't mind their personalities, so long as they were pretty.

"Oh the trees are fun. Lots of dark little places to..hide." She smiled.

She seemed friendly. More than friendly. Maybe a bit pushy, but she did sit with confidence. Drover stood and paced forward a step or two, his tail crooked upward, to get a better sniff at her.

"I s'ppose I could be interesting," Drover said, his tail also brushing from side to side, his voice a bit husky juxtaposed with her purr, "dependin' on what you were interested in hearin'." His stepped forward again, this time to Turbo's side, their heads parallel and scant inches apart. He looked at her out of the corner of his eye. "Stranger or not, you must know your way 'round the forest better than me," he continued. "I don't suppose y' could bother with givin' a bloke the grand tour? Provided, o'course, y'don't make me chase after ya."

She sniffed at him a bit, as he made a mental note of her own scent. She smiled, wagging her tail, body poised as her ears perked.
She looked very much like a playful puppy, but she was a few years old yet, and puppy wasnt a correct term for her.

"Oooh, Im interested in lots of things. You seem very interesting, indeed." She mused, looking over his orange pelt once more and smiling a bit.

Sure, she was pushy. It was her nature. Her sister was the virtuous one, and she could be called a high profile whore, if she didnt rip your throat out once you called her that.
She enjoyed a good time, and she always would.

"I could give you a tour." She didnt add that maybe he'd want to chase after her eventually, even if the conquest wouldnt be too hard to achieve.

"What is it youre most interested in seeing?" She asked, gazing around her.

"Interestin' ain't the half of it, sheila," Drover replied. He continued to pad forward, then turned, pacing around her body, his tail brushing her side. He was behind her and to the side, now, willing to follow where she led.

"We-e-ell…" He hadn't lived in the forest before, or even visited; what would he show a visitor to the prairie first? His den, maybe, if he was feeling crude; perhaps it was best not to ask that first. "Somewhere scenic," he finally answered, "yeah? Convince me I oughta stay." He didn't know what treasures the woods held in store, but if some of them were jewels like the female before him, he'd be pleased to stay around for awhile.

He intrigued her.. Something about the way he spoke, the way he made his little comments that could almost make her purr.
She wagged her tail, and giggled a bit.

"Oh you won't wanna leave! I promise!" She said and began moving forward, looking behind her a bit seductively, her walk a sort of swagger. But then she looked forward, and knew he would follow.

"I shall take you to something most beautiful. Its where I call Sanctuary."

She would take him to the largest waterfall in the forest. The dangerous one, if you were on the top of it. She usually liked going swimming in it, or just sitting around in the lush green grass that surrounded it. It was like a secret grove, and she loved it so.

"That's a good name," he said. He hoped the name fit as well as Turbo fit the she-wolf. He came from a place where names were thought to have power -- they said something about the spirit within. It was such an ingrained belief that he didn't think about it anymore, but subconsciously he recognized a good name when he heard one.

He was already thinking that maybe staying for a bit would be a good idea as he paced after the spotted female. Fortunately, she wasn't racing like she had been earlier -- Drover certainly would have been able to keep up, but he didn't like exerting himself for no reason. As they moved into the woods, he could hear running water, louder than he'd ever heard. In fact, he kept thinking they would come upon a stream or river soon enough, but instead the noise just kept getting louder. "We getting close, Turbo?" he called ahead to the female.

She too believed that names were the windows to power. She loved that her name was strong, and that her sister Reaction had been blessed in the same way.
She really didn't vocalize it ever, she really didn't care to. But it felt good to be able to say her name with pride.

"Yes, only a liittle longer." She said, her voice dragging on the word 'little' to give it emphasis.

She jumped over a log, gracefully stretching her legs out to carry herself in the air.
She looked behind her, wagging her tail.

She liked this male. He amused her. It was his accent, and his pelt.. But his personality was alot like hers in a way. She felt a sort of, connection with him.

Finally the river led into the waterfall she knew would be there. She lifted her head up, to look at the top of the waterfall, which almost touched the sky..She swore it did!

"Here it is!" She giggled.

The sight of the female in front of him made Drover forget about how the uneven and prickly terrain of the forest felt on his paws. He didn't stumble--that certainly would have been shaming. He was just used to smooth sand or earth.

Water in the desert was a precious commodity, to be sure. Found in muddy puddles or sudden, blossoming oases, it was always beautiful. But this… He had never seen anything like this. He completely forgot all about the female form. His head was filled with the pounding of the water, his eyes drinking in the sight. Did the forest really hold such treasures?

"It's... beautiful," he said slowly, then cleared his throat, trying not to stare like a stupid hick. "Where does it all come from?"
