The auburn female stared down into the water tilting her head, from her white tipped ears and gold eyes, to the red-brown pelt covered in glowing spots that she often said looked like fireflies nesting on her back, to her cream underbelly that spread into the undersides of her legs and haunches.
Kearith looked back behind her to the clearing filled with the filtered sunlight that appeared and disappeared as dark cloud floated passed. She couldn't be sure if it was die to rain again, but she liked the rain, the scent of fresh rain was always a pleasing one and often helped hide her scent while she hunted.
She lifted herself and tore her eyes from the sights and put her nose to the ground. It was time to hunt, with this time of the year the hunt was plenty and she wanted to take full advantage of it, because she knew once winter was her she had better put on some good weight for the times where hunting wouldn't be so nice. "Hmm...what to catch...I already caught that little hare yesterday, but I think I want something a bit bigger tonight..." she mulled to herself in debate. With only just herself there was no possible way for her to go after a deer, a fawn maybe, but even that was difficult and the waste of food didn't sound like a good idea.

Yujiang had started south again, his heart heavy with the vibrant beauty of the mountains which he'd had to leave behind him. He had wanted to be closer to the land he knew, much warmer than the mountainsides he had so recently visited, so that he might make a den, prepare, maybe meet others during the hard months.
For a pack winter was a good time - the prey of a pack were usually the great herding animals which struggled in heavy snows and were worn down by cold weather. Wolves, with thick coats, could stand alongside the weather and take what was theirs from the sick, the young, the old of the herds.
A lone wolf, though... a lone wolf had a harder time - with no pack he was limited to the smaller, faster creatures and his wits to find his supper and those creatures thrived in winter. Though prey to its hardships, they were able to burrow in snow, they created large caches of seeds and nuts and some even slept throughout. No, being alone was not good in the harsh months, the earth's sleeping time.
Yujiang wondered if he might find a pack who would let him overwinter - he knew it was not common to let another stay for only a short time, but he was not an unskilled hunter and sometimes another pair of fast legs outweighed the need for pack solidarity.
If not, that was how life would be and he'd endure such hardships as he had before - though he chastised himself for his own arrogance in assuming he'd survive - only the night skies knew that, only fate.
Although in a reverie, Yujiang's senses snapped to attention when his nose caught the scent of another nearby. Introspection was all well and good, but failing to pay attention to a possible threat was foolhardiness. He was not the type to hide, to slither past, or to become instantly aggressive though - fate had brought him near and he would not pass by a possible opportunity to learn.
"Hello?"

The femme looked up to spot the colorful male, so much unlike her warm colored coat. "Hello there.." she said tilting her head at the male. She scented at the air around him, there was no hint of aggression, or ill intent that she could pick up.
She stood there looking at him with her gold eyes, perplexed by the male. "I'm not intruding am I?" she questioned looking around, she was new to the area and wasn't sure about any pack lands around and worried she could be imposing on them. That was the last thing she needed was to make a pack angry by imposing on their land without even meaning to.
Her white tipped ears flicked back and forth as she turned her direct attention back to the male in front of her.

Well, it seemed as though it was to be a good day - not everyone would have greeted him in such a kind manner! His hyacinth eyes swept over her, taking in the rich, dark ruddy pelt, the speckles of white throughout. It's a pleasing look, he though to himself - soft and delicate, like a deep red summer sunset sky spotted with early stars.
He nodded his head in a wolfish 'bow' of greeting. "Intruding? No, not at all - these lands are not mine or of any related to me and, so far as I can tell, belong to no wolf - at least none I have seen or scented so far." he wanted to put her at her ease - as he would have liked had it been the other way around.
"Are you travelling through here?" he asked, his tone friendly, warm.

She nodded her head towards him. "That is good to know, I did not believe I had scented any other myself, but always better to be safe..." she sighed. She couldn't believe how well he seemed to blend into the surroundings. The only thing that seemed likely to truly give him away was his onyx nose.
"Yes, I am just making my way through, I come from over the mountains, so everything is very new to me here. Yourself?" she asked tilting her head with a wolfish smile over her muzzle, gold eye only portraying even more of a smile.

"Over the mountains?" his yes lit up with a gleam, interest piqued. "From the north or south?" he asked, quietly, politely, but with a hint of eagerness to his tone. It was only after a few moments that he realised his bad manners and looked a little abashed.
"I'm sorry, forgive my bad manners in not answering your questions first - I come from the south-east of here - an area by the sea near large grasslands." He described his homeland with this quick sketch, and a smile on his face - it was obvious he loved the place from which he had come.
His interest, however, was now on the female and where she had come from - especially since she said she had come from over the mountains!

Sneezing with laughter she shook her head. "From the North of here, I'm not so used to the warmer weather there is here. You must be quite used to it compared to me." she said
"You're home sounds beautiful, I might have to visit it, I have never seen the sea before; but I have hear stories of how beautiful it is." she sighed daydreaming slightly about the sight. But it was hard to dream of something one had never actually seen before. The closest to large body of water she had ever seen was a lake.
She should have bitten her tail for her own bad manners as she just now realized she had not introduced herself. "I am sorry, my name is Kearith! I guess I can be a bit on the forgetful side at times." she sighed digging at a itch on her side with a hind leg.

"Ah is that so? It sems cold even here to me but... alot drier - it doesn't rain nearly as much as it does at home. Not that I mind that too much." he grinned. He did like the rain, sometimes, but the dry weather was rather nice. "I'm glad stories of it have been positive, we encourage visitors to drop by - my pack and those around us are lovers of those who me from afar and bring stories!" He himself had been particularly delighted at hearing tales of the northern lands where huge wolves roamed the lands taking down mighty creatures. So far he hadn't met any particularly large wolves, but he really hadn't come across many at all so there as still time.
"I was going to try to head north - I've just come back that way - it seems autumn comes earlier there and I didn't want to get caught in the cold over winter with no pack or den to give me safety." He had been rather close to a pack, though he hadn't known it, but had erred on the side of caution in coming a little ways south again for the winter.
"If your memory is bad then so is mine, forgive me, my name is Yujiang, son of Zhouji and I am a traveller - seeking and observing eternity" he said, giving his full, formal introduction. "I am glad to meet you Kearith" he added, less formally, and gave her a broad smile. He was young yet, and not as serious with ceremony as perhaps he should be, but that was why he was on his journey, afterall.

"Dry yes, the snow where I come from can be almost unbearable at times. It clumps in your fur and sticks there, dragging you down as you try to get through the massive snow drifts. It's really not a lot of fun. But the summers are much more mild than they are here." she sighed, remembering, she wasn't sure if she would miss the heavy snows, she hoped not, but one would never know until the time came.
The auburn female shook her head. "No, being from the south you wouldn't want to get caught in the winters there. Autumn isn't too chilly for me, but even I admit the winters are brutal." she said shivering a little. She loved the look of winter and it's pure essence it gave to the land, but the cold wasn't something she fancied.
"It is my pleasure to have met you Yujiang." she nodded her head. The named rolled off her tongue with a little trouble, it was a very different sort of name, certainly not what she was used to, but different areas of the land were known to think differently, especially when it came to the naming of young.
