The sun was barely visible above the mountainside. The day had passed Hera by too quickly for her to do much. Had she wandered around too much or did her mind wander around to make it seem like the day went by too quickly? The little mare didn't know which one it was. Either way, the day was wasted by just wandering around all day. She hadn't run into her Prince all day. In fact, the only thing that she did was hanged out around a group of mares for a few hours of the day before wandering around for a little bit on her own. She didn't want her slave exposed to the heat of the Summer time. Maybe Dahak might breed her to his slave sometime this Summer now that their first breeding had grown up into adults.
She started to wander back to her grotto when she spotted a familiar sight. She stopped slowly and gazed at the splotched hide of the outsider Jala named Tahmores who stood next to a small watering hole. She wondered why he wasn't with Yi. Maybe he really had enough of her temper and had decided not to become the Heir's follower and future mate. That was a pity. Slowly, she wandered over to him and gave him a nudge on his rump.

Tahmores nearly jumped when he felt something touch his rump and he quickly spun around to see that it was the grey-brindled mare that he had ran into a few times before. Pinning his ears against his skull, he backed up a few steps to get away from her. "What are you doing here?" he asked her, annoyed that she had found him.
She gazed at him curiously, wondering why he was so angry with her. "I didn't purposefully go out wandering around to find you," she remarked bitterly to his question. "I was just out wandering around and was on my way back to my little grotto when I spotted you." She gazed at him curiously, noticing that he was a little thinner than she remembered him being. "I see you aren't the Heir's little pet anymore," she remarked coldly to him.

Tahmores stiffened his body up and glared slightly at her. "No, I am not with her," he said to her, a slight hint of remorse and anger in his voice. What else was there to say to that question? Obviously it looked like he wasn't with Yi anymore if he was out here by himself. Hera ignored the tone of voice that he answered him as she grinned smugly to herself.
"So, that means you are available, right?" she asked her coyly, sauntering over to him. He started to back away quickly, not liking where this conversation was going. "What...do you mean by that?" he asked, his tone if voice slightly high-pitched. Yi was never this forward when it came to anything like this. It was almost like this mare was coming onto him...and fast! He had to think of something quick or else this was going to turn into a bad situation before he had a chance to escape her grasp.

Hera stopped, surprised by his reaction to her movements and questions. "What I mean is that the offer of being my mate is still open to you...that is if you are willing to become my mate." Tahmores tilted his head to one side and gazed at her curiously. Was this the same mare who had said in nearly the same breath that he would make a perfect mate and slave? This was the same mare who had changed him into who he was today. Why would he even think about become her mate?
He shook his head slightly and started to turn away but before he could do that he was blocked by the little mare. She gave him a sad look and he backed away a few steps. He didn't know what to do in this situation. Yi was never like this...at least never like this in front of him. He wondered if she got emotional after he had left her. Probably she did but she probably hid them when she was in public or with her family. He gazed down at the little mare and sighed softly. Why did this have to happen now?

Hera tilted her head a little bit more and gazed at the stallion curiously. "Is something wrong?" she asked him, looking slightly confused. She didn't want to admit that she was a little hurt by his hesitation to respond to him. She thought that it was a straight-forward question and that he would give her a straight-forward answer: either yes or no. She wouldn't be hurt if he said no but she was hoping that he might at least try to get along with her. She knew that the two of them didn't get off on the right hoof but that was in the past and she wanted to get to know him...at least a tiny part of her wanted to get to know him better.
Tahmores shifted slightly as he stared down at the ground. What should he say? Yes or no? Sure, he wasn't with Yi anymore yet at the same time Hera was the last mare he had ever wanted to run into and at the same time the last mare he had thought about becoming mates with. He blinked a few times and gazed up at her. Now that he was thinking clearly, she didn't look like a mare that would give him a hard time if he did anything wrong. He stared at her for a few seconds and realized that maybe she was a better choice of a mate than Yi was. Hera was just a regular member of the herd and Yi was the Heir. No one would pick on him if he became a mate of a mere member of the herd than if he became the consort to the future Queen of the herd. Maybe she was the better choice for him to pick for a mate.

"I'll...give it a try," Tahmores said finally, causing Hera to be startled slightly. "Give what a try?" she asked him curiously, wondering why he finally chose to speak after being silent for a few tense minutes. He ruffled his wings slightly and gave her a critical look. It was almost as if he was saying 'you should know that by now'. He didn't say that aloud, though. Instead, he cleared his throat and took a few steps towards her. "Being your mate," he said, his voice firm. "Let's give it some time, though, before it is official. I am willing to try and see if being your mate is all that it is cut out to be."
She nearly jumped with joy when she heard those words come out of his mouth. But she contained her joy as she walked over to him and nuzzled his cheek gently with her maw. "You won't be disappointed. In fact, I think I will be a much suited partner for you than Yi was." She smirked slightly as she turned around and walked a few steps away from him. "Come, my love, let us go back to our grotto now and get some rest." Tahmores obeyed Hera as they wandered in the direction of her grotto, not wondering what lay in store for them. Hera wondered how her slave would take to obeying commands being given to her by the slightly headstrong stallion she was taking as her mate.
