He knew it well. But theft wasn't his favored sin, at least it wasn’t as active, not like the sin that was hardly less than a genetic engraving which the process of his behavior was willed to follow. It was the sin of envy that drove him to commit the crime. He had done it once, only once, but that was enough to condemn him. And now he wanted to do it again. His little disciple had grown out of his den some months ago and now was completely out of his care having reached adulthood with Danel's favor. Though the cloaked canine was proud, he couldn't help but feel the familiar sensation of loneliness slither through his veins. It preferred to move like molasses, oozing slowly as it clogged his blood, choking him a little more every day until he was driven mad by the desire to fill that emptiness. He had no purpose otherwise. It was his job, after all, to be a teacher, and if there was nothing to teach, Elapse was little more than a ghost to his peers. This needed to be done.
He crept along the outskirts of Gomorrah. Such an appropriate pack. Why not commit a sin against a pack of sinners? The dry white nose shuffled along the ground, taking in whiffs of breath every now and again before snorting out the dust that was collected along the way. Scents. Certainly he would pick up on some sort of scent form the pack, after all, there were two new alphas, young and healthy, certainly they were reproducing. At least he hoped. And if he couldn't collect from either Piper or her mate, maybe someone else in the pack had a brood. He wouldn't put it past them...considering he already stressed the theme of this self-pleasuring group.
The ruffle of his cloak sounded occasionally as he shifted particularly sharply, or a breeze ruffle through. The air was for the most part settled, but every now and again a soft pleasant wind would come and greet the working wolf. He appreciated it. He appreciated it even more when an interesting smell came forward, forcing his head to dart backward, following the wafting scent, his steps light and almost prancing as he was pulled toward what was enticing him so.

Thieves! He couldn't believe it. Lounging near the pond to sunbathe himself one day, thinking of nothing heavier than what autumn and its brilliant colors would bring in several months, and how it would affect the affections of wolves with its warming embrace, he had missed the near pupnapping of his sister and brother! Gods, if his head hadn't been in the clouds, Mother wouldn't have had to fend them off by herself! The close call was enough to jar Satoru into reality.
Now he stood on self-imposed border patrol, especially around their den. Hour after hour he would pace, trying to keep a stern expression to ward off any intruders from even daring to come by, but the expression was foreign to him and, once daydreaming set in, would melt away into his typical smile. Bright reds and oranges and yellows and browns and maybe even greens if some of the trees didn't want to stay so -
"Neh! Sato, get ahold of yourself!" the pup chided himself as a warm breeze passed through his fur, like the comforting of nature. Duty! Why couldn't he learn at least that from the near-fatal event with his family? Pace, pace, pace, pace, stern, stern, stern, stern . . . But stern wasn't Satoru. Yet he had to learn it to prove himself to be a good brother, right? Sacrifices had to be made. Didn't stop him from feeling like it was all just an act, though . . .

The soft silver gaze from the thin wolf shifted about the area, taking in the setting with cautious precision. His steps were lighter still, but the ruffle of his cloak made his appearance quite noticeable, save for how easily it blended in with the brush. He paused. Had he caught a voice? Certainly something had altered his behavior, but it took a second or so for his to mind to catch up with instinct. Indeed he had heard a voice, the voice of the source of his attention. Leaning forward, he blinked at the pup, staring directly toward the dark creature through his leafy shelter, intrigued initially with the vibrant tint of his fur, curious as to how it shone with each simple movement.
What was he up too? His large puppy paws stamped against the ground in an almost aggressive fashion, but his expression hardly looked the part. Elapse's head turned curiously, fascinated with watching him. He was vastly different then Elijah. A contradiction between action and emotion. It almost made him...happy? The wolf hadn't noticed the grin that was slowly spreading over his narrow, foxy face. But how was he to approach him? A mother wasn't present, or at least he didn't sense her at the moment, but just running up wasn't the wisest of options nor was taking this slow. Maybe he didn't have to snatch him away violently like he did the other. Maybe he could ask this little guy to just follow him, make it look as though the pup wandered off on his own.
Finally he sucked up what courage he could manage -when applied was actually a surprising amount varying with each situation- and padded forward, his head low but his expression unthreatening. "Hey, um, can you tell me what pack I'm in?" he asked, approaching the pup nonchalantly, giving an honest confused face.

The soft swishing sound was not like that of scattering leaves, where at least there were crinkles and crackles from the thin makeup. No, thhis sound was more fluid, calming, velvety. The pup turned his head towards the sound and sucked in a surprised gasp when a large wolf emerged from the foliage, draped in a black as night cloak with a strange ensignia, his countenance a lonely traveller's lost in the wide world. Why hadn't he at least smelled him before - ah, but the stranger was downwind. Of course. Smart move there, Sato, he kicked himself.
Still, the cloaked one's head was bent humbly, and he did not appear to have any hostile intentions as of yet. A good impression could do wonders, and thus the Satoru shed the weak facade of a stern sentry and greeted the traveller with a wide smile that glittered like his pelt. "This is Gomorrah Pack, sir, ruled by Piper and Hurricane. Are you looking for someone?"

He blinked at the pup’s direct response, half surprised he didn't turn and run the moment he saw the cloaked wraith. Perhaps he didn't look as menacing as he believed he did -that smile, though gentle, was deceiving. Body language was just as loud as words apparently, as his head hung low and his tail touched the ground, appearing little more than a weary vagabond afraid trespassing in this occupied territory would cost him his hide. Elapse hardly felt what his body portrayed. The only thing that would have him so submissive was the guilt that was already beginning to tug at the lower chambers of his heart.
"Ah, no, but thank you anyway," he answered. The last thing he wanted was to be caught by an adult. "I was sent out by my alpha to inspect the nearby packs. Just to see what sort of leaders led them. Can you tell me about your alphas'?"

"Um . . ." That was a peculiar reason to send a scout so secretly like this. Why didn't the alpha just go out obviously so it didn't look so suspicious? Then again, what did he know about the mind of a pack leader? Maybe the move would've been too bold and just would incur Piper's temper. "I don't really know them well, sir," Satoru replied truthfully, ear twitching as an itch began to develop. "But we're a large pack, so they have to be really, really smart wolves, right? What sort of pack do you come from, mister?" Green eyes trailed the cloak enviously: it looked so soft and cool and mysterious looking! "Do you all wear those things?"

Elapse listened to the pup as he explained, noting the distrust that mingled for a moment in his eyes. The questions there worried the older wolf, but he remained calm, his expression simple still, and his stance relaxed. "Ah," he answered in reply to Satoru's comment about his alphas. Of course he didn't really take the information to heart, after all, that was just a cover up as to why he was really here. "They must be good alphas. I come from a large pack too. A secretive pack really," he told him, watching those eyes. "Yep. Every one of us has a cloak. Omegas like me can't wear them over our ears though, but that's only to distinguish our rank."

The idea of a whole pack running around wearing such awesome accessories made the pup grin. "Like a secret society or club!" Satoru exclaimed, tail wagging, ear twitching. He sat down and attended to the twitching with a furious scratching with a packpaw, eyes still upon the stranger. "That sounds so cool. I'd love to have something like that cloak, make me all scary and mysterious so no-one would mess with me, or my family, or my pack." After all, a pup that sorta shined wasn't exactly the most ferocious of things, especially a big softie at heart like himself. "What's it called, sir?"

"Well, kind of like a club," he answered, giving a firm nod of his small muzzle. He shifted slightly, but his pose was still relaxed, unthreatening, and he continued to watch the pup for signs of discomfort or distrust. He was inquisitive enough, that was a good indication of a possible success. "You could have one if you join. There's not a pack stronger than mine. We're all like brothers. Protective and valiant, and always looking for opportunities to make our alpha proud," Elapse told the pup, "Actually, that's what we call it. The Brotherhood." His own explanation swelled a familiar pride within his chest, causing his head to rise triumphantly.

"Whoa . . ." What a name! Satoru's tail wagged further at the idea of seeing himself with a cloak of his own, comrades at his sides jokingly planning the next ambush of a fellow member - for kicks and giggles, of course. "Sounds like my kind of place," the pup commented with a big nod. "Do they train you to be warriors? They must, right? I bet those cloaks are hiding big muscles." How modest! "I bet the girls there are as strong as the guys, huh?" Satoru added with a chuckle, momentarily imagining either of his sisters donning the hood and sneaking about: with their black pelts, shines hidden by the cloaks, they could be excellent hunters! And of course Agrona would be the toughest fighter.

The excitement in the pup's eyes was both a relief -after all, this meant he wouldn't have to drag him hopefully- but a certain sense of sadness was stirred up behind Elapse's gray eyes. This pack wasn't something to become excited about, not when you were a free wolf with a bright future ahead of you here among you family, and the harsh environment Sato would be ripped away to was something Elapse wasn't quite sure the happy pup would be able to handle. Unless Satoru could prove him wrong, Elapse didn't want to bring a pup to the Brotherhood just to have him killed later.
He perked up at the onslaught of questions. "Warriors of sorts. Each wolf has a different job. I take care of pups so I was trained to not only know how to fight, but to be able to teach it as well and be able to protect the youth ," he answered him before continuing on, "Well, ah, there aren't any females, actually." He paused, unsure how to explain this to a possible recruit. He had to tell every pup that asked him before and did so easily, but maybe what made that somewhat more leisurely was that the pup he was telling was already within the Brotherhood and could do nothing about it. "I don't really know why our alpha doesn't want them in the pack either, but he has his reasons I suppose."

There must be a reason . . . Satoru paused to think. Agrona might as well be a guy, the way she acted all tough. But Teita . . . Teita had nearly been pupnapped, and by a female no less. Kurosage had barely managed to save her. Again guilt pricked his heart. Did he deserve a family like this, with no father and a son who liked to lounge everywhere else except with his mother and siblings? Perhaps his love for everything was indeed a sin . . .
"No females, eh? Maybe because he thinks guys're stronger?" Sato posed, shaking himself of the musings again, though his smile dimmed. "I wouldn't mind doing that, getting stronger. Failed my family by not even being there when something happened . . . No wonder they don't want to play with me anymore, eh?" Teita seemed to enjoy Xavi's presence more anyway (was it because they both shined the most of the four?), and Agrona . . . Well, who knew where Agrona went these days? Did his mom even want to see him after that incident?
"Ack, sorry, mister! I didn't mean to go off like that, m'own personal stuffs and all. So, um . . . need me to do anything for you?"

Elapse gave a prompt shrug at his suggestion as for an explanation as to why Danel didn't allow females. This could have been so, but the cloaked wolf had no way of confirming his suspicions without asking the alpha directly, something he wouldn't ever do. If there was potential he would come off as questioning or patronizing he wasn't sure what would be the result. Certainly mercy wouldn't be shown to the omega.
He shifted though as Satoru continued. He felt some sort of remorse, that was obvious, but he wasn't sure why. The desire to protect was often the factor that drove some wolves to do crazy things, and the pup not knowing what he was getting into, was about to sign a contract. "What do you mean?" he let slip, cocking his head curiously though his expression was delicate and open. "Oh, I'm sorry, I don't mean to pry," Elapse told him, "Oh, no, no you don't need to do anything for me."

But Satoru didn't seem to mind opening up to the friendly stranger once he sounded like he was interested, and open up he really did. "My sister nearly got pupnapped not too long ago," he recounted sadly, "by some crazy female wolf. Maybe she liked shiny pelts? It drove Momma so crazy with relief, I heard, but Momma's already been through so much for us . . . we don't even have a father, he just kinda went with her one night and, um . . . here we are?" He tried a chuckle, but it sounded strained, and he swallowed it back down before it went too far.
"I don't really think we're mistakes most of the time, and Momma calls us her precious gifts, but . . . I wasn't there for my sister. Now I feel like a mistake who made another mistake." Sato blinked numerous times, almost surprised to find them a little more wet than usual. "Maybe it's just me, though, me being me. Some wolves don't get what it's like to try and be happy like me, because when guys like me get down, we get really, really down."
- Whoa now! Too much information, hello? Satoru gave Elapse a sheepish smile. "Momma's right. I chatter too much. But yeah, that's why I was kinda on patrol here, near our den, trying to act all tough. Guess it didn't fool ya, huh?"

Elapse nearly jumped with the information. Pupnapped? Had Loki infiltrated this territory before? No, no that couldn't be the case, Satoru mentioned the pup being a sister, a female, and something Loki would sooner kill than take along with him back into the Brotherhood. He sat, blinking at the pup with intent ears and an expression to match. And then he continued, setting straight his confusion and let alight a bit more perspective of the pup's history. "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that," he said, referring to both the fact that one of his siblings was almost lost to some stranger and his mother's struggles. Elapse tried not to contemplate his own guilt.
"I don't know, you seem pretty tough to me," he answered him, giving him a firm nod and a smile on that short snout of his. "Though I don't agree with these other wolves who think you and your siblings are mistakes, I can make it so that what happens to your sister never happens again. The Brotherhood makes strong wolves out of our members. You'll be able to accomplish whatever you so wish."
