Description
Kael stands 5’11” and just over 190 lbs, of middling build with just a bit sturdier shoulders. Though naturally light skinned he has a healthy sun-tan, dark, straight brown hair cut to eye length that has very obviously not seen a comb, and expressive, deep red eyes. His facial features are a sort of “reserved strength,” a sturdy but not bold or blocky chin and jawline, defined nose and a little bit thicker brows. Not quite the rugged manly-man, but more alike a handsome man than a pretty boy. Nothing that should have stuck out too much were it not for his eyes and a few scars he’s recently picked up. A small puncture-wound scar where a large barb went through the center of his right cheek was the first, followed by the clean swipe mark running horizontally under his right eye. After that, the two ragged scars ripped down the left side of his face, just past the eye, all the way down to his jaw by a set of a wolf-man’s claws. There are more- lots more, but those don't usually show while he's in a common state of dress, keeping in mind his "common state of dress" involves nearly perpetually wearing some form of gloves.
Kael has become what is commonly known as "an adventurer," much to his own chagrin, and despite increasing attempts to secure himself a traditional life style he spends about as much time "saving the world"- though he always uses the phrase with a nice soaking of sarcasm- as running his mechanical shop, collecting music, and the occasional pursuit of historic knowledge or preservation. A strange appreciation instilled in him by his "aunt and uncle", retired archaeologists managing an antiques shop. Initially quiet and unassuming, used to being able to enjoy the sounds and sights of the city with quiet anonymity, he has since grown out by exposure to the less traditional world, and gained a sense of flair in his time participating in the televised fighting tournament "Heaven or Hell". Still, pride not withstanding, he is his own worst critic, mercilessly lashing himself for his failures as readily as he gives the absurdity of the Gaian "adventuring world" a scathing critique and speak his mind in harsh, straightforward honesty. While not what one would call "kind" Kael is close enough to altruistic to often find himself at odds with his own worsening temper and sense of brutal practicality- the clean cut, straight line method to the heart of a problem. That is, after all the heart of his methodology, a thinker but not a planner. While his experiences have only reinforced his mild paranoia of all magical- it's only a little strange, until it works in his mind or in his body, then he's hard pressed not to panic- he's otherwise grown more open minded as he's moved into the far, far too wide open world.
Equipment
Vagrant Soul - Anima Artifact [Level 3]
Joseph Brown
To most the Vagrant Soul would seem like an unremarkable steel b*****d sword, but to those that know the history it is so much more. Rayner Veli first touched and helped to create this sword through a dream hundreds of years ago. The man he assisted passed, but the soul did not. For all those many years the sword was reminded of Veli's touch, and every moment it formed and reformed itself to be perfectly weighted to his use. As an artifact drawn from the ancient Anima of Moam, shades fear this weapon, as it can pierce all but the strongest of them when normal blades cannot.
Unstopable Will - The soul that the blade is forged from is defined by purpose, and the metal of the blade has followed that path. No matter how scratched, dulled, or even outright broken the blade becomes, within 24 hours it will return to pristine state. Scratches may disappear within an hour or so, but something along the whole blade being broken off will take the whole duration. Such is the other Kael's strength of will.

Knight's Charm - [Level 2]
Given to him recently by a lover, Kael is oblivious to the charm's magical properties. A small onyx charm on a rawhide necklace shaped in semblance of a mounted knight, helmed and bearing shield, lance leveled. As a part of a series of charms it provided a viable shield against magic, benign and harmful, but alone this protection is nearly negligible. It will protect any wearer, not just Kael, and only effects active magic and not the aftereffects there of.
Dragon's Tongue [Level 2]
The misnomer is ultimately just for effect. The Dragon's Tongue is a homebrew prototype Kael created resembling a welder or blowtorch in function. It's built sturdy, with extra protection around the fuel cell to help it safely survive adventuring, design somewhat resembling a lengthy-ended staple gun. It comes with a safety function, as while it's range is less than a hand's span it is made to function as a welder and steel cutter, shooting a tiny jet of blinding white flame. Despite the havoc such a flame could wreak on a living body it is made for non-combat primarily and would make a clumsy, difficult weapon at best. Additionally, because of its personalized protected fuel cell, reloading in the field is next to impossible, giving it a limited life span.
Sawed-Off [Level 1]
A sawed-off double barrel shotgun, unlicensed and probably illegal, but very useful in a pinch. Given Kael's poor aim its close ranged catering and stopping power make it an ideal firearm for him. Portable and powerful, but he's untrained and hesitant to take killing shots on humanoids. The barrels can be fired separately or together, but will require reloading after the shells are expended. Worn under duster on a long sling for quick drawing and concealment, safety on.
Total Shells: 10
Partial Plate [Level 1]
Knee length boots and elbow length gloves, made of thick leather each with attached steel plates, including steel toes and sole inserts and steel dusters. The breastplate only covers a portion of his stomach, but it does take care of his entire ribcage, and has a gorget to protect his neck. As mundane equipment they're sturdy but still plenty breakable, and light enough to barely slow him down like good armor. While the gauntlets and boots are hard to disguise, the breastplate can be covered with a loose top and high enough collar or a scarf.
Duster [Level 1]
A hearty calf-length duster coat, it is tolerable in hot weather and toasty in cold, just light enough to make swimming in it less than a nightmare. While it's hearty enough to protect from the indirect edges of attacks and things like a broken bottle, a good cut or dangerous flame will go more or less right through it.
Knives [Level 1]
The first is a Bowie knife with a false edge and serrated back, more a tool than a weapon, even with the additional acorn pommel. The second is a stiletto bladed trench knife, triangular blade meant for devastating thrusts and some resilience, with a hilt neither quite duster style nor basket style. Adjustable straps allow them to be worn in many locations, though usually the belt.
Odds & Ends [Level 1]
Tied tight and heavily belted around his waist, a tote resembling a small messenger bag carries several of his other odds and ends including his fritzy cell phone, his shotgun shells, a roll of bandages, a small set of cutters, a flat head and Phillips head screwdriver, a small pad of paper and pen, bobby pins, a cheap portable music player, and his keys.
Abilities
Handy [Level 1]
Kael is good at working with his hands. His penmanship is poor and his doodles worse, but his thick fingers are surprisingly dexterous, even in his thick leather gloves. He's a poor lock pick, a capable if crude carpenter, and solid enough in auto and simple appliance repair to eke out a small living on it. He's even done simple plumbing with a manual in hand, but his jack-of-all trades ends at electrician work- he simply hasn't the same head for it, and doesn't like all the jolts. Ironically, his don't look skillful. In fact, they look halfway inhuman. His skin starts to turn dark and rough at his wrists. Palm, knuckles, fingers, all are mottled in a dark tanned color too deep for his naturally fairer skin, mottled and twisted into something alike callouses, thick and rough to the touch. Horribly ugly, the burn scars look less like something from an accident than from torture involving fire. Technically, that wouldn't be far off either.
Born Stubborn [Level 2]
Valley of the Shadow of Death [Level 2]
Thrice touched by life. Kael, the boy of ancient spared from the void emptier than death as pierced by the Forgotten's blade, will preserved to champion on. Kael, the embittered knight betrayed and sealed to neither pass beyond nor wander the earth, until his soul could ride another to life. Rayner, taken the name Kael, body worn to nothing and granted another as though untouched by the trial within the minute of his passing. Thrice touched by death. Kael has take the charge of the Radiance of Lost lives from his predecessor to fight against the Forgotten, but his connection to death goes further than that. Kael is not a natural sensitive, not able to directly contact or interact with ghosts or spirits as some, but the shadow of death is upon him, but he is apart from it. Spirits, even those normally unaware of the living and physical passing may take notice of Kael, and they find him much easier to contact, whether their intent be benevolent or malign. This can put him in harms way, especially as he is not particularly aware of this capacity, and his mind protected only from direct and violent invasion by his powerful will, very susceptible to manipulation and suggestion. This applies only to ghosts and spirits of the dead, or otherwise related to death, not magical energies or natural spirits. Those especially powerful or attempting to enact their influence on the world Kael may even detect when they are not meaning to draw his attention, sometimes seeing clearly but more often receiving subtler sensation cues.
