Name: Kaylar
Age: 22
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft: Healer
Rank: Journeywoman
Physical Description: Kaylar is 5’10” with a lanky build an average body and dark green eyes set in a sharply angled face. She keeps her long, brown hair back in a braid to keep it out of her way. She has slightly tan skin that gets very dark during the summer as she travels to farmland holds to provide routine care.
Her fingers are almost unnervingly long, but extremely skilled with her trade tools. Her thin frame often fools others into thinking she is not overly strong, but years of moving patients and traveling have left her deceptively, if not overly, strong.
Personality: Kaylar sees the world in black in white terms, with a few areas of gray concerning her craft. However, she often chooses not to discuss her outlook on the world in favor of general conversation during her rare breaks. While off duty she is so relaxed it almost seems forced, but as soon as she is with or preparing for a patient she is as focused as a hawk. This, combined with her attention to detail and need to get things under control, makes her extremely efficient in emergency situations.
That said, Kaylar finds it very difficult to leave a patient untreated when she knows a solution is available. This became more pronounced as she began to learn the art of surgery that many holders seemed to fear. Often times she becomes frustrated and upset at the stupidity of whoever is preventing her patient from becoming better, but has learned to respect their wishes and keep her head when with them.
Because of her busy schedule, Kaylar does not spend much time with anyone, and finds the idea of a family far from her reach, even if she does daydream about it from time to time. She has become a bit of a loner, and her analytical view of the world makes it difficult for some people to get too close to her, but once they have they find someone who truly wants to help others and loves what she does.
History: Kaylar has been obsessed with the idea of being a healer ever since one saved her uncle’s live when he had a swollen appendix when she was 10. She had been allowed in the room to fetch the healer anything he would need and make sure her uncle stayed under during the surgery.
The healer recognized her fascination during the increasingly routine procedure and suggested to her parents that she be entered into the healer craft. Kaylar’s mother, Rosheen, was disgusted. She had four growing sons but only one daughter and that daughter would be properly married to a nice young holder and have a wonderfully happy, calm life.
Kaylar’s father, Tyshrak, was hesitant about the idea, but he had also been in the room during the surgery and had found himself paying more attention to his daughter then to the healer to keep himself from becoming ill. It took a year of pestering, sneaking away from home to follow the healer when he was near, and more than a few comments from the male members of the family before Kaylar, before Rosheen finally gave in and sent her “baby girl” away to learn the healer’s craft.
The next few years flew quickly by as Kaylar learned as much as she possibly could from in the walls of the craft hall before she was promoted to journeywoman. She has been doing rounds in the Kerron fields ever since to eventually specialize in emergency truama and surgery. This has naturally put her mother into even larger hysterics since the family is beholden to Ruatha, though Kaylar tries to visit as often as possible.
Pets: A Ruathan runnerbeast named Stolic. He is a roan with a steady frame and calm personality, and has a smooth stride (as smooth as a runnerbeast can get) that is very useful for transporting ill patients. Stolic was a gift from Kaylar’s father when she became a journeywoman.
Other/Talents: Kaylar’s skillful fingers are not limited to healer tools and with a little push she has been known to play guitar very well, and her humming isn’t bad either.
Will this character be a candidate? Ummmmm, Nah.
Picture: Not just yet, maybe some time.
