 It was a cool autumn day. Her dark coat hidden under the shade of the tall trees. Justice sighed, her father rejected her, just like he did when she was born. She raised her muzzle to the air to sniff at the fresh breeze. "Ah" she sighed, relaxed and at peace. "It's wonderful today.."

Zephyr skimmed low over the trees, blue and brown wings spread wide, blue and green feathered tail floating behind him. It was a good day for flying, and he slightly missed the warmth of summer, but autumn seemed a bright season, so he was willing to give it a chance. Finally, he found a place to land, touching down as carefully as his mother had taught him. It was then that he realized there was a mare under a tree with flame-colored leaves, though only the bright pink in her mane, tail, horn, feathers, wings, and glowing eyes betrayed her presence, for she was the darkest mare he'd ever seen. "Hello there," he said carefully, not to startle her. "Good weather for flying, don't you think?"

Flaring her head to the side startled she yelled "Who are you?" Not meaning to come off angry she quickly apologised. "I'm sorry, I'm not used to being startled like that.." She politely flung her red mane out of her face. "Goodafternoon" She smiled, bowing her head.

Zephyr had been startled by the yell, enough to take a few steps back. When she seemed to relax a bit, he said very gently, "I'm sorry I startled you. I just didn't realize you didn't notice that you weren't alone anymore." He smiled. Quite the polite girl. "What's your name, miss?" He privately wondered why she seemed so startled and so polite, both in the extreme. Had she had bad experiences as a filly? He could ask that later, when they were familiar enough with each other for it to be a less personal question.

"My name is Justice" She did a playful twirl. "And what is your name?" She stepped into the light, only a few strides apart she happily showed off her colouration.

Zephyr couldn't help but smile a little appreciatively. The autumn sunlight brought out the rich dark pinks in her coloration nicely. "I am Zephyr, and it is a pleasure to meet you, Justice," he said formally, with an elegant bow that would make his mother and his sister Elune proud of him. They'd always liked it when he was the perfect gentleman, especially to mares, and since he cared about his family, he'd continued working to be the perfect gentleman. "If I may say so, the sunlight this time of year brings out your coloration quite nicely." Meanwhile, the sunlight was naturally bringing the blues and greens of his coloration to rich, gem-like hues.

"You.. You really think so?" shy she teased the ground with a hoof. "You're really amazing." She blushed, admiring the emerald, sapphire and creams of his coat. She stepped closer to him, horns almost touching. "So uh.. what brings you here?" Eyes glowing she stared deep into his own.

Zephyr backed away a step or two, startled by her forwardness and increasingly confused about her. Where had that vulnerable creature gone? Was this coquettishness an act to hide her own insecurities? He slightly shook his head. "I wouldn't say it if I didn't think it." True. Most of the members of his family valued truth, especially when communicating about attractiveness. "I was out on a long flight today. My mother's off visiting my nieces today, so I thought I'd explore." He gave a rueful smile. "My nieces have a lot of energy, since they're so young."

She smiles letting out a slight giggle. "I remember when I was young.. I was a hoof-full for sure." She looked away to the side, her mind in another place before she turns back to him.

Zephyr smiled. "Isn't everyone a hoof-full when they're small?" He watched her very carefully, still trying to figure her out, and whether the real her was the vulnerable one or the brash, coquettish one. One way to work toward finding that out. "So, what were you doing out here all alone?"

Surprised by the question she perked her ears in his direction. "What am I..." She looked down. "Escaping.." Instantly her aura dimmed. "My Herd leader is not very fond of me, my father stole his mare, and expecting a foal of his blood, I came out and I'm the only black filly in the herd, it was obvious I was an outsider. the leader loved my colouring but.. knowing who's blood I came from, He was not pelased." She shook her head "not at all.. So I ran away, found my father only to be turned away, told its too dangerous, so I'm alone now.."

Zephyr quietly listened to her tale, eyes widening. Well. That certainly answered his question. She was vulnerable, but trying to hide it and forget it. No one deserved so much rejection for so little, and Zephyr wasn't the sort to let anyone suffer like that, especially not alone. He took a swift step forward and spread his beautiful wings over the black mare as if to shelter her. "It hurts, doesn't it?" he asked softly. "It hurts to be rejected by those you want to love, doesn't it? It hurts so much you want to hide the pain, right? It's OK to show that pain. I won't laugh at you, and I won't reject you. You don't need to hide your pain behind being a flirt."

The mare shook her head, small tears finding their way down her cheek. "Zephyr" she whispered, nuzzling his wither. "You're far too kind.."

Zephyr smiled quietly. "No, I just don't like to see anyone suffering like that. I'm sure I'm not that kind, but my mother is." He gently nuzzled her cheeks, to dry her tears. "Just don't hide behind being a flirt. From this day on, you can rely on me to never reject you. Would you like to come with me and stay with me and my family? We won't turn away anyone, and I'll definitely make sure you're never unwelcome, Justice." He knew what he was offering, to be always next to her, and while he felt a little embarrassed at being so forward, he was also somehow happy. He knew that he didn't want anyone to hurt her, and if it cost him everything to keep her safe and happy, he didn't mind.
