It was mid-day and the day was clearer than ever. The spring weather had revealed the flowers in all there glory. It was magical to a new born foal. It had only been a while since he had broke free to his basket. In these weeks however he had become strong, free spirited and become quite the open speaker. Growing into a fine young colt which his parents were very proud of. They had such a big influence on his life. He lived to please them and make them proud of him. Even though he could probably not change their minds oh how they saw him. He tried his best to be polite, considerate and well-spoken. He was quite a intelligent foal. Not in common sense at all... he was always causing himself harm by accident. He was just smart in the parent pleasing department.
With a wide smile the young colt walked into the field where he had spent most of his sort life. It was a open place where parents usually brought their young ones to play and meet others. Under the watchful eyes of their parents. Unfortunately his mother and father were seeing to his siblings, they were a handful. All of them were. Rio was just the best at hiding it from them. However as soon as he was around anyone else his true colours came out and his love for debate, socialising and in general great aspirations became obvious to others. If anyone was ever in danger of being too friendly he was. Even with people he had never talked to before. It was just the way he was brought up.
He laid down in the grass looking at the birds in the sky with envious eyes. He had not been able to even get off of the ground yet. It was not fair. One day he was sure he would make it into the sky though. Soon he would be flying with the rest of the flock. Even if it one day killed him.

The day was perfect; scarcely a cloud in the sky and it warm. The nice weather during the day meant pleasant weather during the evening. This was exactly what she needed for her festival.
She had spent the entire morning with her mother in a two-legger village looking through things her grandfather had collected over the years. Everything that she wanted her mother put into a woven basket for her. By the time the sun was high in the sky Malta left carrying a baskets loaded with baubles, ribbons and shiny knick-knacks in her mouth.
Weighted down made flight difficult to the point that she was only able to glide for short distances before landing once more. Even like this she had made good time and by the end of an hour she had found herself in a field that was only a short hop, skip and a jump from her festival grounds.
From here she simply decided to walk the rest of the way. She was close and there was no harm enjoying the sun for a little while, she'd be in the shade soon anyway. A merry little tune escaped her throat as she walked with a little skip in her step. The night would be fun.

Rio looked around hearing a kind of happy jingling noise. He tilted his head and wondered before getting up to walk about and take a look. Soon he came across a purple coloured mare who seemed to be carrying a lot of shiny things. Some kind of jump in her step because she was singing and dancing. At least that is what it looked like. He had never seen such items as what there were in her baskets. He walked over and looked up at her. To him all of adults were kind. He had never met one before who did not like foals. So why would she be any different.
"Excuse me. What are you carrying?" He asked looking a little confused. He decided to ask because he was afraid if he did not his mind would be on it all day. The grass was stroking the underside of his belly the flowers head were floating above that.

"Hmm?" Malta stopped her swaying gait and peered down to see a little horse peering at her. Not just any little horse, but a little winged foal. She smiled at him from behing the handles of the basket. "These?" She asked going slightly cross-eyed as she tried to look down at what she held. She was unable to see anything other then her own face and decided on a better course of action.
Lowering the basket to the earth she gave the little wind a smile before straightening back up. "These are festival decorations!" She exclaimed quite excitedly unfolding one dark wing to gesture to the basket of goods. "I have to set them up for a celebration tonight!"
It pleased her to be talking about this event. She had been planning it for weeks now. It was nice to see that someone was interested, even if it was just to inquire about what she was doing. Something wasn't quite right about this one though. Scanning the area she saw why. "Hey, where are your parents squirt?"

"Heh, they are messing with my brother and sister. I decided to go out and play for a while. When I saw you." He stated, he did not need his parents to look over him. He was sure he could take care of himself. How mistaken he was. He was not ready yet to fly the nest and take care of himself. He smiled and nodded looking up at the mare. He wondered.
"What festival... I have never heard of some event going on tonight." He mentioned his ears back against his head and a confused squint in his eye. He hoped there was some kind of event tonight, it seemed to be a fun idea to say the least. He had never been to a big celebration before and with all the pretty items the mare was dragging around it seemed like it was going to be a lot of fun.
"Would you like some help?" he asked tilting his head, He had nothing better to do after all.

"Oh!" That made sense then. As a foal she had gone out on her own to play quite frequently for one reason or another. He had parents somewhere in the vicinity and that was all that mattered. Her ears perked when he took more interest then just in the contents of her basket.
"It's a firefly festival!" She exclaimed with glittering eyes. "I'm gonna hang all these things in the trees and then lead the fireflies into the area. It'll be cool!" She could remember few moments in her life that had brought this much joy to her. The anticipation alone was making her giddy.
"And I sure would like some help. But I have two very special conditions." She tucked her wing back to her side and began marching back and forth like a general inspecting their troops. "Number one! You have to have fun with it, fireflies don't like sad feelings, they run from them. It's a little known fact. Number two! If you need to go home...just let me know and I'll take you back okay?" She stopped her pacing and lowered her head to be at level with the colt. A smile played across her face as she awaited his answer. She hoped he'd be okay with those conditions because she could use the help.

Rio looked a little confused, he had never heard of such a event before. It seemed a little strange. Fireflies... sure they were pretty little glowing things. He sometimes thought they were stars on Earth but he did not think people would actually celebrate there existence. Then again they were some of the most magical things you could find. How did they glow?
"Okay... Yeah it seems okay. I do not think they would mind. I might have to ask my dad if I can stay out after nightfall. As long as I keep going back I will be okay/" He smiled and nodded her conditions seemed reasonable to say the least. Nothing that would land him in too much trouble. After all. He wanted to keep in his parents good books.
"So what do you want me to do?" He asked tilting his head anxious to get started.

Malta was unable to hide her excitement as he agreed to her terms. Her wings fluttered lightly against her sides and a large grin spread across her face. From a far she would appear to be out of her mind more then happy. After a moment of inner-celebration she calmed and her wings relaxed once more.
"All you have to do squirt is follow me to the festival grounds and then help me hang these things in the trees and bushes. Think you can manage?" She winked at the colt then took the basket up between her teeth once more. She was pretty sure he'd have no troubles with decorating with her. He had wings, and if he couldn't yet use those then there were lots of low branches around.
Raising her head she looked around to make sure she was heading in the right direction. It didn't take her long to spot their destination. Just off in the distances there was a crescent shaped cluster of trees. It was open enough to get into and see the night sky but also held enough trees for decorating. With a cheerful smile she set off towards it forgetting to check if the foal was following.

"Yeah that sounds good. I think I would be able to manage but I am not the best flier in the world. So I hope there are some low branches." He joked before he started to follow after the filly. He smiled and looked at her she seemed very chirpy. He was beginning to really like this girl.
"My name is Rio by the way. Is there any special ceremony or events at these festivals or is that a surprise." He asked with a small smile before he sped up to walk by her side. He loved her colours and he was sure his father would not mind. She was a adult after all so it was not like he was going around unsafe and unprotected.
He just to be honest could not wait to get started!

"I'm Kaitou..." Her voice trailed off before she shook her head. "Mmm, no...I'm Malta. Just Malta and...umm...there aren't really any special events..." Speaking around the basket was difficult so she decided not to speak any more on the subject. She left the rest to her inner voice.
She hadn't ever considered coming up with any events or ceremonies for the festival. Decorating and watching the fireflies dance in the night seemed like enough to her but perhaps she should have come up with something. She looked up at the sky and smiled. There was still time. She could come up with something before the sun set for sure.
Turning her head back to look at Rio she grinned. "Race ya!" She muttered through the basket before picking up her pace. The sooner they reached the trees the faster they could get started.

Rio smiled and nodded. He really liked her name it suited her well. Names were odd like that. When you put them to a face you could not imagine anyone else with it. Rio hoped there was no one out there with his name. He wanted to be unique but at the same time. He wondered if someone did have his name, would they be alike or total opposites? He snapped out of the thought to once again look at the female.
It was quite comical to see her trying to talk around the basket, it was like talking with your mouth open but he was sure it was not as frowned upon. A small giggle escaped him before he flicked his mane the female setting off at a faster speed.
"Whoa- wait for me!"
He called and then started to chase after her, being smaller he was not as fast but he was sure he could keep up if she did not set off full pelt. He smiled. He had a good feeling about today. "You are fast... for a older lady." He joked. In no way a offensive manor.

She kept her pace a good deal slower then she would ever truly race. In a true race she would even bring her wings into play to help her acheive greater speeds or make long jumps. She was considering slowling down more to let the colt beat her when he called her old.
Her eyes went a bit wide and she turned to stare at him before laughing a little. She had never been called old before. She was still very much a child herself after all. "I'll have you know...I'm not much older then you squirt!" Even if he had been joking her youth had been questioned. "Better hurry up!" She felt the need to prove that she was still young and so instead of slowing she increased her speed to the point that she seemed to be flying.
At that speed it took her a little over a minute to reach their destination. She smirked and set the basket down by a tree. Next time she'd let him win.

She was only a little older than him huh? He thought that was impossible, he was very young indeed. He could not even fly yet and he found it hard to keep balance when running.
The mare soon seemed to be moving faster, soon he could hardly see her but he followed the smells and the movements on the grass to follow her to there destination. He smiled as she soon came into view he would never question her age again. Or any women for the matter of fact. It seemed to annoy them slightly.
He smiled and looked up at her. "Okay you won but that is only because you have longer legs." He joked and nodded before looking around. "So should we get started?" He asked tilting his head.

"And experience squirt. Don't forget that." She added with a wink. While she was only a few seasons older then him it was still enough to give her a great advantage along with her legs.
Pushing the race from her mind for a moment she surveyed the area once more. "Yep, better now then never!" She declared before kicking at the basket gently. It toppled to the ground spilling ribbons, bracelets, necklaces, and various other shiny objects that her grandfather painstakingly collected. "Just pick a shiny, pick a limb and hang it up!" She said eying her collection to find the perfect starting object.
She settled on a necklace her grandfather had brought from across the great water: a golden chain with an ivory pendant. She scooped it up in her teeth then wander over to a tree with branches hanging just above her head. She reared back and looped the chain around the branch with ease before dropping back to the ground. "Just like that! Let's see how much we can hang before it gets dark out alright? Then it's time for the festivities!"

"sounds like fun but lets have a contest, see who can put up the most ribbons before dark. So we are motivated to put more up that is."
He smiled and nodded before he dived into the basket and pulled out some long white ribbon and running with it. It flew around behind him as he started to run aroud some bushes. Unaware that as he was doing so the long ribbon was also wrapping arpund his legs.
He was just too into it to notice. He was just exited about some of the things he would be doing later on. He loved parties.
