In my jazz band, we played in concerts, got real gigs, learned the foundations of improvisation, learned multiple scales, and learned how to take ideas from past solos and meld them into our own ideas. Essentially, we learned how to be better musicians and have fun while doing so.

Our school had our first Jazz band ever last year after marching band! We did a part in the last concert of the year, as far as I know people loved it. It was after school once a week, btw.
During classes, we just tried to get into the groove and learn the music rather than go into the history since we didn't have much time. Some people definetly got to improv, though whee
Anyways, I'm really looking forward to this year!!

Ive been playing in three different jazz bands for four years now, and ill tell u what, it's exhausting. I play bari/tenor sax and usually take an improv solo every now and then, but mostly, jazz for me is pure expression. I love it because one of the basic principles of jazz is that it's up to the player what they want to say through their instrument. Its frickin' amazing

I would try out for Jazz Band, but our new director doesn't like Jazz Band. So I don't know if we'll have one.

I've passed the Jazz Band audition, and I'm the only sophomore in my Jazz Band this year.
My band director loves Jazz, but he can't explain it very well what Jazz is to the newbies.
He tells us that Jazz is something that you can only *feel* it, and cannot be explained that easily.
Since today was the 4th day of school, we only got 3 songs so far.
The songs are: Groovin' Hard, Tangerine, and Clearwater.
Clearwater is my personal favorite, because I really do like shuffle music.
All 3 songs can be listened at jwpepper.com, just simply type in the song names to listen to it.

I've been playing Jazz for a little over 5 years, mostly on Alto Sax. Jazz to me is the most fun I've ever had while with a band. Even though we saxes for some reason get a bad rap...well the boy alto's do, heh, us girls are safe. But the music is awesome, the players are more lax then in a regular concert setting and just plainly more fun.
