Types of Jutsu

What is jutsu ?

Jutsu, or skills/techniques, are the mystical arts a ninja will utilize in battle. To use a jutsu, the ninja will need to use his chakra. Chakra comes from two places. (1) the body energy inherent in your trillions of cells and (2) the mental & spiritual energy gained from exercise and experience.

To perform a jutsu, the ninja will bring out and releasing these two energies. By forming handseals, the ninja is able manifest the desired jutsu. Because of the extensive number of hand seals and different combinations, there are thousands of potential jutsu to be discovered.

Based on which jutsu the ninja uses, the type and amount of chakra will be different as would the elements you would be to employ.

Ninjutsu:

Ninjutsu in reality is the art practiced by the ninjas of feudal Japan. Ninjutsu techniques are the secrecy and skill techniques of a ninja. Ninjutsu techniques normally require hand seals of some form and always require chakra.

Taijutsu:

Taijutsu techniques are the body and hand to hand skills of the ninja. Taijutsu techniques do not require hand seals. Instead the ninja will train their body in different forms of fighting. A ninja can also use their inherent Bloodline abilities when doing Taijutsu techniques. Clans such as Hyuuga can utilize their ability to see the inner chakra channels of their opponent and then stop the flow, or utilize the Kaiten technique to form a protective barrier by releasing chakra from their body.

Genjutsu:

Genjutsu techniques are the illusion techniques of a ninja, they normally require hand seals. Genjutsu will use hypnotism to cause hallucinations in others. By causing such illusions they can cause their target mental pain and suffering just as real as physical hurt. Genjutsu is created when a ninja extends their chakra flow through the cerebral nervous system of their opponent to control their minds chakra, thereby affecting their five senses.

To combat the effects of Genjutsu, there are two options. The first option is for the ninja to stop the flow of chakra in their body, and then apply an even stronger power to disrupt the flow of the casters chakra. The second option is to have an outside ninja unaffected by the Genjutsu make body contact, and use their chakra to disrupt the casters flow.

Fuuinjutsu:

Fuuinjutsu techniques are the sealing techniques of the ninja. They allow the ninja to contain the elements and demons. Like ninjutsu all fuuin jutsu require chakra and a set of hand seals. Fuuin jutsu is only alivable to experienced jonins and Kages. Sometimes the Fuuin jutsu require a ritual before the jutsu is used, an example of this is when Kakashi covers sasuke in kanjis before using that fuuin jutsu.

Doujutsu:

This subcategory is not one of the main skill arts. This jutsu ability stems from the unique qualities of the users genetics. Doujutsu techniques involve jutsu ability found inherent in the eye that do not involve hand seals. Doujutsu techniques have several abilities. It gives one the ability to read Genjutsu, Taijutsu and Ninjutsu and then defeat it. It also gives one the ability to cast jutsu techniques only possible by possessing the eye. The primary users of Doujutsu are the Uchiha Clan, the holders of the Sharingan eye.

Kinjutsu:

This subcategory is not one of the main skill arts. Kinjutsu or "Banned techniques" are those jutsu from the three main categories which have been declared forbidden by the village Kage. This can be because of the toll it places on the ninja, or the evil nature of the technique used.

The Five Elements.

The five main elemental styles are also the five names for the Five Great Shinobi Countries: Fire, Wind, Lightning, Earth and Water. Each ninja has the potential to better utilize one of these styles and potentially more. A special elemental detecting paper is used to determine ones type. The paper comes from trees which are specially grown with chakra. When the ninja imbues the paper with a portion of their chakra, the paper will alter to reveal one's type. The paper will rip in two for Wind, burn for Fire, become wet for Water, fall apart for Earth and crumple for Lightning. For example Kakashi is a predisposed Lightning type, while Sasuke is both Lightning and Fire for the Uchiha clan specialty.

The Five Elements Affecting Your Character.

The jutsus your character can learn will be decided by both his village and his affinity to a certain element. The five elements "Fire, Water, Wind, Lightning and Earth" are the same as the "Katon, Suiton, Futon, Raiton and Doton". The wood element will be kept alone for certain people with the first hokage bloodline. When you create your character please take in mind the following things:

* You can only have affinity to a max of two elements and a minimum of one.
* You will recive less experience if you have more than one element.
* Your element determines your lineage so if you come from a custom clan, make sure all the people in your clan have or had affinity to that element.
* Custom justsus created by you must be of the same element as your affinity.

Shinobi Ranks

Academy Student This is the first step to becoming a shinobi. Students attend a Ninja Academy where they learn the basic skills of being a shinobi, such as ninjutsu, taijutsu and genjutsu from a chuunin sensei. To exhibit their knowledge, students are graded by tests and ranked accordingly. In order to graduate, students must be able to perform a specific jutsu (example: Bunshin no Jutsu) correctly.

Genin After graduating from Ninja Academy, students are promoted to the rank of genin (rookie/lower ninja). The most distinguishing factor in becoming a genin, is the acquirement of a forehead protector. They are also entered into the village's Ninja Registration for identification purposes. Genins are grouped together in teams of 3. These groups are arranged by the rank and skill of individuals demonstrated in Ninja Academy to create a balance in each team's strength. Each group is assigned to a jounin sensei to perform village duties (mainly C to D-rank). The jounin sensei is responsible for training the team and determining whether or not they are worthy of being a genin. Failures will be returned back to the academy. A common test issued to genins is the bell test.

Chuunin In order to reach this level, genins must be nominated by their jounin sensei to participate in the Chuunin Selection Exam after completing at least 8 missions. The exam is held on the first day of the seventh moon. Chuunins often become captains of military teams, which carries a very high responsibility. They generally perform C to B-rank missions for their village. The most distinguishing factor in becoming a chuunin, is the acquirement of a military jacket/vest.

Anbu An elite military squad of ninja who specialize in assasination, information gathering and protection. They are distinguished by their unique face mask (resembles faces of animals), silver vest and a tattoo on the left or right arm.

Missing Nin These are ninjas who have defected or abandoned their village. Since they may have secrets about their respective villages, they are considered a threat and must be eliminated. Missing nins, who are members of the elite criminal organization Akatsuki, usually scratch a mark over their village's insignia on their forehead protector.

Hunter Nin Also known as “Body Erasers", hunter nins are specialized ninjas (subdivision of the Hidden Mist Anbu) who kill and dispose of missing nins. They make sure that important secrets (example: Advanced Bloodlines, jutsus, etc.) or information on a village are not revealed from a ninja’s corpse. Hunter nins are extremely knowledgeable about the body's structures. They can also be identified by their face masks.

Special Jounin These are jounins who specialize in a certain profession, such as: the medical field, tutors, torture and interrogation, etc. Anbu captains are at the rank of Special Jounin.

Jounin These are the elite rank of ninjas. They are responsible for the village's A and S-rank missions. Jounins also participate in other positions in the villages, such as test examiners and genin sensei.

Sennin A wandering hermit or wiseman. These individuals have decided to wander outside the boundaries of their respective villages for their own personal reasons. Many retain their village affiliation, so are not considered missing nins. People who obtain this unofficial title are very skilled in various jutsus and have a strength comparable to that of the Kage of a village.

Kage This is the highest rank a ninja can receive, the leader of the village. The title of Kage depends on the country represented: Fire Country - Hokage, Water Country - Mizukage, Wind Country - Kazekage, Lightning Country - Raikage, and Earth Country - Tsuchikage. The Kage is considered the strongest ninja of the village and must know over 1000 jutsus. A new Kage is chosen by the current Kage or by the village's council of elders.
