I like it so far I've been using it for about a month or so. I got it cuz there isn't any classes for japanese close to where i live. It's pretty fun to use if your computer has enough memory for it. smile

I don't have it for Japanese, but Rosetta Stone's pretty good in general.
Not worth the money, though, IMHO. If I were you, I'd rather get a Berlitz course.

I like it. I have been using it for about a month now and I have gotten past the introduction to the language and picked up on some phrases and words. If you do get it I would do atleast 1-2 Hours of work on it every day so you can learn fast since their are 3 cd's with 4 units on each that have 4 lessons and then a bunch of mini lessons abotu a specific topic. these Mini ones take about 10-30 minutes of work, not to bad. If you do get it I highly suggest having a good mic. My computer came with one installed but with the background sounds of my fmaily and other misc stuff going on it someitmes doesnt pick up the words or it was said in the wrong order. All in all it is a great program.

I've been using it and I'm not a huge fan. I bought 3 bootleg Rosetta Stones when I was in China (haha, gotta love China)-- Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese. The Spanish and Chinese are okay, but I feel like if I hadn't extensively studied the languages beforehand I'd be totally lost (I'm using the advanced levels, but I've lived in China and Guatemala soooooo... still kind of easy).
But when I'm using the Japanese, since I've never studied Japanese before it just makes no sense. They don't tell you what you're saying or give you any grammar. It's just "oh, here's a picture of a kid and an airplane," now say, "gibberish gibberish gibberish." And you're like.... what am I saying? There's a kid by the airplane/there's a kid touching an airplane/the boy likes airplanes?? It could be anything. Argh.
Yeah anyway that's my two cents. If you've studied before too easy, if you haven't studied too hard. I think $6 was about right. blaugh
(I'd say save your money and just go to the country! Best way to learn any language!)

I wouldn't recommend it.... try Pemsleur, I've used both. I've also heard better general reviews for Pemsleur, rather than mixed reviews from Rosetta. I don't like Rosetta at all, anyway.
I also hear Berlitz is awful from someone who worked for them

motovino But when I'm using the Japanese, since I've never studied Japanese before it just makes no sense. They don't tell you what you're saying or give you any grammar. There's a kid by the airplane/there's a kid touching an airplane/the boy likes airplanes?? It could be anything. Argh. Exactly. I've been studying for so long, and I was watching my dad try out the Japanese lessons I had from a bootleg a friend of mine gave me. The lessons had romaji as default, but if you knew 0% of the language, you would have no freaking clue of what is going on. Based from this, I am kind of afraid of how the Chinese lessons will be (which I might start soon as I am not taking actual classes). Rosetta seems to be decent for people that can put two and two together quickly enough and figure out things. Initially, there is probably a decent learning curve (especially if you aren't on a weekly schedule of lessons). The funny thing is is that the commercials for it tend to tote is as something that allows you to be immersed in the language. Yeah. It is kind of like if you went to a country with 0% knowledge of the language and you listened and hung around with native speakers for a few years you start to pick things up here and there. Good luck with the program teaching you decent grammar (or at least how to break a sentence down and figure out what is going on in the sentence). Actual lessons/classes with native speaker > programs teaching you a language
