Ramiel yawned and stretched as he came up to the river bank. He had just gotten up from a rather nice nap and was in a rather good mood...at least for the time being. He looked at his reflection in the river and noticed his sleepy, I-Just-Woke-Up appearance and decided he needed to do something to fix that. So without a thought, the white stallion jumped in to the river with a big splash, soaking himself from head to foot. He laughed out loud as the cool water ran over his coat and he began to splash about as he went about cleaning himself up.

 Avania whistled cheerfully as she cantered down the path that bordered the river. It was very nice out today, and she enjoyed the cool weather after the hot summer days. Looking casually out through the trees she did a double take as she saw a flash of movement. She skidded to a stop and pricked her ears as she peered through the trees. In the stream she saw a white stallion, soaking wet with creamy curly hair. Curious, she moved a little closer. He had such interesting patterns on his legs, salt and pepper cream brown at the fetlocks, on his front legs spots, and on his back legs strange swirling patterns. It was an oddity, and Avania loved oddities. Feeling bold she moved quickly out of the trees onto the river bank, and called out, "Is the water cool?"

Ramiel stopped dead what he was doing when he heard someone behind him. Turning quickly, he blushed when he caught sight of a mare standing on the bank. Normally he never acted like this when anyone was around and he had thought that he was alone. "Ah...yeah it is." he said in reply without really thinking. He mentally kicked himself for not saying anything more or better than what he had said.
She wasn't anyone he had met before and she had strange birds on her shoulders and a few other marks on her legs that kind of looked like what Dustin had on his hind legs. It also made him wonder how she came by them. "Sorry, I forgot my manners. My name is Ramiel. I didn't know anyone was in the area."

Avania chuckled lightly when she saw the stallion blush. It was quite obvious he hadn't been expecting anyone to come by for quite a while. Upon hearing the water was cool, and still feeling quite confident, Avania waded up to her knees into the stream. Ramiel was right, the water was very nice. Remembering he had introduced himself, but she hadn't, she said, "By the way, my name is Avania." The water felt good as it swirled around her legs, tugging her fur as the current went by. She grinned, "I didn't know anyone else was in the area either. Usually when I go by here there isn't anyone, well, except for the fish." She nodded at the sleek silver flashes flitting around her legs. She giggled as they flicked her with their tails and nibbled on her legs. "I almost think they know me by now."

Ramiel coughed a bit to clear his throat as he felt the blush receeding. He regained his composure and then looked down in the water when she mentioned the fish. He hadn't really paid much attention to them and he was sure that they were probably unhappy with him for disrupting their quiet afternoon with his splashing about.
"It is nice to meet you, Avania." he replied politely. "I don't usually come this way so I don't think the fish know me at all. They are, however, really not to happy with me right now for all of my splashing about in their river." he said thoughtfully and with a smile. It had been a while since he had met anyone knew and it was nice to have a new friend. "So do you live near by since you come by this way a lot?" he asked being curious.

Avania made a shooing motion with her hooves, and the fish receded into the logs and rocks that covered the river bed. She grinned, "Sorry, I just can't think with them crowding around my legs." She grinned as Ramiel mentioned the fish. "I don't think they mind, we are something of an oddity to them, and I think as long as we don't hurt them they like having us around. Something new and interesting." She herself liked oddities, they were one of her favorite things about life. "I live somewhere over that way," She gestured with a flick of her tail to a place where the ground dipped down to form a shallow valley. "My two legger has a teepee right next to the river, this river actually. So if you really wanted to you could just walk along the river, and through parts of the river, to get there. There's rapids and some waterfalls though, so you have to know the back trails through the forest. Its one of those things where you can't really find it unless you already know the way."

Ramiel watched while the fish swam away from him as well and followed the ones that Avania had chased away. "Yes, I think you are right. It must be awfully boring to swim in the same river all day and see only the same fish that you saw the day before. Unlike us, they really can't just get up and go some place else. So, I think that is also why they would like having us around." he said thoughtfully before looking up at her with a smile. Then he got a curious look on his face from her description of where she lived. She didn't live to far from where he did. "You don't live too far from where I live only I am in the other direction right along the river. My great-grandmother's two legger has a teepee right next to the river close to where my great-grandmother found her one winter almost half frozen to death. She found the girl shivering there in the snow after she had accidentally fell in the river and managed to get herself out. My great-grandmother felt sorry for her and so stayed with her through the night and kept her warm and they have lived together ever since."

Avania smiled, "That's a sweet story. I don't really know myself how my two legger met the patriarch of our family herd." She made a mental note to ask Qin how he had met their two legger once she returned to the teepee. Absent mindidly Avania swished her short tail, thinking. The water began to feel even better as the sun rose higher, and morning became noon. Avania scowled as a fly insistantly flew around her ears. Not watching where she was going she stumled into Ramiel and tumbled face first into the deeper part of the stream. Sitting up, stunned, she said, "Oh" At least the fly wasn't bothering her anymore. She started giggling, and that turned into laughter. "Come in! The waters fine!"

Ramiel nodded and returned her smile. It really was a sweet story and he had loved hearing it from his great-grandmother when he was a foal. He didn't have much time to follow that trail of thought when she stumbled into him and fell into the water. He was about to ask if she was alright when she started giggling at herself and then laughing. He chuckled and then began laughing as well and went in deeper into the stream, splashing just as much as he had when she found him. "Are you alright?" he asked anyway and went to help her up. "That was a mighty big splash you made. I think it was bigger than the ones I was making when you snuck up on me." he said with an amused look on his face.

Avania snickered, and said, "The only thing hurt is my pride!" She sent a wave toward him, then plunged into the deepest area, where even the bottom was too low for her hooves to touch. Diving under made all sounds silent, and she was surprised by the amount of life living at the bottom of the river. Kelp swayed with the current, crawfish and other rock creatures hid from her. A few brave fish came up to her and nibbled on her fur.
Returning to the surface she said, "You know, I've heard of wind soquili who instead of flying in the air, fly in the water. One of my herdmates can do it, actually. He says the best is when a very strong current is going, and he can just 'glide' through the water." She laid back in the water for a moment, eyes half closed, then grinned. "I think you're looking a little wet there."

Ramiel was curious about this kind of wind soquili who could fly in water instead of in the air. He had never heard such a thing before and he lived with a wind soquili. "I didn't know that there was such a wind soquili. I have a wind as one of my herd mates but he has never said anything about something like that. Though he really doesn't say much at all to anyone really." he said thoughtfully and swam out to where she was floating. "Your also looking a little wet too. Thats what happens when you play in the water." he said with a chuckle and sent a wave back towards her.

Avania shrugged, "I've never seen him do it, though he is a little on the air headed side. He would be the kind to try something like that." She grinned, soaked head to hoof as Ramiel's wave broke on her. She nimbly hopped up onto the bank, trotted up to a ledge, and jumped off into the water, shouting "Cannonball!" Whatever that was supposed to mean.
Under the water a whole new world greeted her. Schools of fish scattered upon her approach, and she giggled, forgetting she was underwater. She shot up to the surface, and found herself right next to Ramiel. She switched him with her tail, and said, "Rami, I don't think I could possibly get any wetter." She smiled devilishly, "But you might be able to."

Ramiel tried to duck under the water when she jumped in to avoid the splash but wasn't quick enough. He was hit full on in the face with the waves and splashes of her jump. He laughed and shook his wet bangs out of his face. His mane and tail were straight for once with the water weighing them down and pulling the curl out of them.
"Same here, I haven't seen the wind I am with do anything like that. I haven't really ever seen him fly either. He prefers to walk or his takes of after he has left the teepee. He's really kind of mysterious now that I really think about it." he said contemplating. He would really need to have a talk with Dustin one of these days and try to get to know the older dark stallion.
He then decided it was his turn to jump and paddled over to the bank to jump off the ledge. "I think I can get a bit wetter too. So look out!" he called to her has he jumped off the ledge and made the plunge.

Avania nickered with glee as she saw Ramiel about to jump off the ledge. She braced herself for the wave as Ramiel hit the water. His wave was much larger than hers had been, and she felt herself tumble over in the water until she was under it. She saw Ramiel below and swam down to him. She grinned and swished him lightly with her stubby tail. Pushing off from the river bottom she surfaced, inhaling a great breath of air.
Waiting for Ramiel to surface, she rolled over onto her back, lazily kicking the surface with her hooves and letting the stream's subtle current carry her.

Ramiel swam up after her and nipped at her short tail playfully before surfacing right next to her. He inhaled a deep breath of air as he hadn't expected to go that far under the water. Once he had caught his breath, he laughed and floated there also letting the current carry him wherever it was going.
"Well! That was fun!" he exclaimed with a large grin plastered on his face. He honestly didn't know the last time he had this much fun. Usually he was worrying about things that could go wrong but for some reason he was at ease today.
