"Mister Director. We're in lock down. I'm afraid I have some bad news."

"Yes? Quickly, what?"

"The Booster is gone."

"So I've noticed. But how?"

"It appears that the kid had another power... one we couldn't anticipate."

"Are you going to tell me, or let me die of suspense?"

"It's... able to copy the power it Boosts."

"What? Copy?"

"Only temporary, Mister Director. We went over our previous tests already. It's surprising we didn't notice before. When the child is in contact with another psychic, not only does he Boost that psychic's ability--he copies it for the duration of the Boost, as well."

"So... the child is gone, then."

"That's correct."

Silence followed... then a gunshot. Shortly after, an intercom buzzed.

"You called, Mister Director?"

"Yes. Please send a janitorial employee to my office. A body needs to be disposed of."

"Yes, Mister Director."

Warning.
This role play is based off of the 2009 film Push. Certain elements of the movie may be spoiled if you continue to read further or click on the following link. If you have not seen Push and do plan to watch it, I recommend that you go and do that before you return to this role play.

Push (plot synopsis)
Push (trailer)

This role play is based loosely after the events of Push, although only original characters are allowed in this role play. Significant parts of the movie, such as Division and the psychic-enhancing drug (labeled M-14 from this point on), will play a part in this role play. Read at your own risk if you don't like spoilers.

The world of Push:

1945. It began with the German Nazis. They tested humans, and they found something. Soon the Nazis were shut down, but the testing never was.

Today, the U.S. government funds a branch called Division. As the public doesn't yet know about the existence of us--we're called psychics--Division is a secret and above the law. Well, it's a secret to the ordinary humans.

Division does not keep us in lab rooms. Us psychics live our normal lives, or whatever semblance of normal we can obtain, with or without the integration of our powers. We're everywhere--anyone you pass on the street may be one. Division is big, powerful, funded, and well versed in information warfare. They do what they want, take what they want, take whom they want... nothing can stand up to them.

Division uses what we call, 'First-generation psychics.' Those born with their powers, strong powers. Division will recruit anyone with a powerful ability--mostly, the first-generations. If you decline their offer, they will force you. If you refuse to cooperate, they will kill you. They either take or kill anyone they feel is powerful enough to pose a threat to them. They're smart.

Any psychic you find on the street, is probably a second-generation one. The offspring of one or two psychics, our abilities are markedly... 'less.' Second-generation are treated like rabble, even compared to the brusque treatment of first-generation. Division will haul any second-generation they want straight off of the streets, for testing.

Ah, the testing. That brings forward another topic. The M-14 drug. This death-in-a-syringe drug will greatly increase the psychic abilities of any recipient, at the cost of their life. Only one person has ever survived the drug: a woman by the name of Kira.

(Kira was a character in the movie.)

Original Plot_

Plot One

The Control Act.

Swan Fitzgerald has been ordered to bring in several particular first-generation psychics. They'll be coming with him, whether they like it or not. In body bags, if need be.

Plot Two

The Booster Club.

Division has encountered a never-before seen first-generation psychic. They call it--a Booster. The Booster has the ability to Boost the psychic ability of any psychic by skin contact. Conversely, though, during the contact the Booster gains the same ability as the one it is touching. This ability fades immediately following release of contact.

Before Division could realize the side-effect of the Booster's abilities, it had already come into contact with many psychics, including a Watcher. The Booster then realized that it could come into contact with a Division-controlled Walker--and did so. Now, Division is frantic to recover the one-and-only Booster, before anything can either happen to it or for it. Sniffs and Watchers are tracking it down... it is only a matter of time until it is found.

Rules_

Follow the Gaia ToS and other rules.

Be respectful in OOC. Use brackets, parentheses, et cetera for OOC.

Common sense applies, and most of the usual rules go without saying in this guild.

MORE IMPORTANTLY...

1. First-generation psychics are more powerful than second-generation psychics. Period.

2. A psychic can only have one kind of power from the list presented, and cannot change powers.

3. Feel free to suggest, in the sanctity of a Private Message, new ideas for psychics. The original nine in the movie are by no means a set of laurels to rest on.

4. Division is backed by the US government. They have training, funds, and information.

5. Send a Private Message with your psychic's power as the title.
For example, a Mover would be titled "Mover." A Pusher would be titled "Pusher."

Master Rule: Absolutely no non-original characters. Make up your own.

New Rule: Absolutely no light colors allowed. I want to be able to read your posts without ruining my eyes.

New Rule: Multiple characters are definitely allowed. I would absolutely love an even spread of all the diverse psychic powers, but more than one of each kind of psychic IS allowed, too.

Psychic abilities invented by myself or the RP'ers of this role play will be labeled 'Original Psychics.' Only the first ten (including Phasers) in the list below are originally from either the movie or the comic series.

Psychic Abilities_

CODENAME:

Movers
Movers manipulate the physical world by means of telekinesis. They can recognize an object's atomic frequency by touch--so anything they have touched, can be Moved, if they remember it. They can also Move anything they can see, and learn the atomic frequency by that means.

Advanced Movers can manipulate molecular levels for the purpose of creating protective shields from air. This causes a rainbow-colored discoloration as air bends. In powerful Movers, the discoloration is even seen through ordinary telekinesis.

Pushers
Pushers push thoughts, memories, and possibly emotion into the target's mind. This is signature by the Pusher's pupils dilating to the point where they completely cover the iris, during the actual act of Pushing.

Advanced Pushers can actually control the target's entire will, using others' bodies as an extension of themselves. Such a control is nigh unbreakable.

Watchers
Watchers have the ability to follow the future. This has been compared to a long case of déjà vu. They only see images, but are capable of following the future of live subjects or inanimate objects. It is suggested that Watchers can track people by their intentions.

Advanced Watchers can see farther--much farther--into the future, although these are among the rarest of psychics. They are also able to see unhindered by the unmade decisions of others. The future can change in the largest of ways because of the smallest of things. No Watcher can ever be certain.

Bleeders
Bleeders can emit high-pitched sonic vibrations from their mouths. This is powerful enough to shatter glass over a long distance, and anyone in the vicinity will be compelled to cover their ears in pain. At close-range, this sonic attack can rupture blood vessels inside a target's body. If a human is attacked by a Bleeder, they are not rendered unconscious or unable to act right away, unless the range is point-blank. A common signature of Bleeders is for human targets to bleed out of their ears, which is unavoidable.

Advanced Bleeders apparently can only scream more powerfully--at a higher frequency, thus being more dangerous at a greater distance.

Sniffs
Sniffs are psychometrics that can track people or objects over various distances. Compared to psychic bloodhounds, tactile access to an object that has been in contact with the subject empowers their tracking skills. Both touch and smell are senses used in Sniffing, however (though scent is far more effective to them). Sniffs receive images rather than actual information when tracking targets.

Advanced Sniffs apparently can only sniff more accurately, or use a fainter scent from an object. It certainly seems a skill made better with experience.

Shifters
Shifters temporarily shift light patterns around objects to fabricate illusions. Touch is required to Shift something, but the Shift can remain established for short periods of time (think hours). The length of the shift is based on experience and ability.

Advanced Shifters can hold several shifts at once. In theory, an advanced Shifter could even win a combat situation by overwhelming the target with illusions, thus rendering them ineffective. This theory has never been proven.

Shadows
Shadows block the visions of clairvoyants such as Sniffs with their very waking presence. Anything within a certain range of the Shadow is rendered 'dark' and cannot be tracked by Sniffs, although other kinds of clairvoyants are only partially impaired by this. Experience and ability dictate the size and intensity of the Shadowing effect.

Advanced Shadows can drastically increase the radius of their Shadowing effect, and are able to elude Watchers as well as Sniffs. They are also able to maintain the Shadowing effect even in their sleep.

Stitchers
Stichers can reconstruct cellular matter with their psychic abilities, using hand-contact only.

Advanced Stitchers can undo or redo any Stitching they've previously done, almost instantaneously, provided they can reacquire hand contact. The only reliable way to kill a Stitch is overkill.

Wipers
Wipers can induce either temporary or permanent memory erasure, though the process requires hand contact to the head. Experience dictates the accuracy of their wipes, but their is always a danger of desired memories being accidentally (or maliciously) lost.

Advanced Wipers can erase memories within moments of contact, but this is usually for the sole purpose of debilitating other psychics quickly--by erasing everything. Advanced Wipers can even time the rate or duration of memory loss or recovery--but they aren't usually cheap.

Quote:
Phasers
Phasers are capable of adjusting their own body's molecular structure, in order to pass through any solid object with ease. Phasers are not featured in the movie, but do appear in the prequel comic book series of Push.

ORIGINAL PSYCHICS

Walls
Walls only have a passive ability: they are completely immune to any and all types of psychic manipulation. This is limited to their own mind--they cannot resist sonic waves or a knife thrown at them with telekinesis. Walls cannot, however, be tracked by either Psychics or Sniffs. They cannot be Pushed by Pushers and cannot be Moved by Movers. They cannot be Shadowed, Wiped, or be tricked by Shifters. In essence, the only psychics they do not possess immunity to are Bleeders and Stitchers.

The unique part of a Wall's ability is that all have the same ability and level of ability. There are no Advanced Walls because all Walls resist the same things, completely so. To note, however, most Walls will go their entire lives without ever realizing what they are. The only way a Wall can know its own ability is when a psychic fails to manipulate it in some way, and then decides to let the Wall know.

Walkers
Walkers can 'Walk' between any two places in the world, provided that they have been to the destination before. This nearly effortless act lets them literally 'step into' another location. The distance of the Walk is dictated by the experience and ability of the Walker.

Advanced Walkers are capable of Walking to an unvisited area that they can still see. Think, across an unpassable chasm, for instance, or onto the balcony of a neighboring skyscraper. The most skilled Walkers can include others when they Walk. Holding hands is the bare-minimum contact required for this act, but taking another seems to be very tiresome to the Walker.

Boosters
Boosters are capable of Boosting the psychic abilities of others on skin contact. As a side-effect, the Booster temporarily gains the ability of said psychic for the duration of the contact.

Nothing is really known about Boosters because, during the story of this role play, they are a newly-discovered psychic.

Dreamers
Dreamers are capable of delving into the mind of any sleeping person. They can walk among dreams, sometimes changing them into wonderful or nightmarish things--and sometimes finding out that it is their very own nightmare.

Advanced Dreamers can take someone else into a dream with them. Physical contact is required, as always--but this is very risky, as a person left can be trapped forever. This proves bad for both the sleeper and the third party.

"Nah."

Character Name: Chris Howelson
Age: Sixteen
Gender: Male
Personality:
At one time, Chris was your typical teenage boy. Three years within Division Holding Cells have changed him, though. Chris is a survivor. He'll do anything it takes to stay alive--use anyone he can. Chris has been transformed into an animal--by the pure instinct of survival.

Background:
Once upon a time, Chris was happy and content with his life. His ability as a Booster, you see, remained unknown until, during a random incident completely unrelated to him, he came into contact with a Division Sniff. Eventually, he was captured and stored in one of many Division Holding Facilities. There, he endured experimentation of his ability. For the most part, they were harmless. But three years is a long time of relatively-solitary confinement. At this point, Chris came into contact with a Division Walker and escaped, using the Walker's own abilities to appear in a different country. Chris knows he can never go home. He knows his family is likely dead. This is Chris's world now--the hidden world of the psychics.
Psychic Ability: Booster
Allegiance: anti-Division
Other Information: He is the only known psychic of his kind.

Theme: Animal I Have Become ~ Three Days Grace

"I don't have time for philosophy. I'd rather live my life than think about it."

Character Name: Lenny Arnold Theodore
Age: Twenty-four
Gender: Male
Personality:
Lenny is quiet and predisposed to keep to himself. He is always bringing himself down with the knowledge that he is a poor psychic and considers himself just as weak in the scientific department--false as this may be. While he does have a moral compass, Lenny chooses rather to hide the fact from himself than confront what he calls his 'inner demons.'

Background:
A Division scientist and a first-generation Mover. For all of this, Lenny considers himself 'small fry' because of his secluded nature and lack of psychic skillfulness. He truly doesn't Move very much, and science is his true calling. Lenny can't understand some things about Division, and deep down, knows that it is probably corrupt and evil. He does nothing about this, however, because he considers himself weak. Lenny wants nothing more than to be a scientist. It was his dream even as a child. For all his terrible skill at wielding his psychic ability, Lenny is an exemplary scientist. He may not be particularly interested in other psychics, but Division puts his useful mind to work often.
Psychic Ability: Mover
Allegiance: pro-Division
Other Information: Lenny had nothing to do with Chris Howelson's experimentation or escape.

Theme: Yellow ~ Coldplay

"You know those times when you just have to put your head up high and be proud of what you are? Those times don't exist.

The only times there are are when you have to put your head down and grunt through it."

Character Name: Swan Fitzgerald
Age: 48
Gender: Male
Personality:
With his moral compass long-since buried within himself, Swan only does what needs to be done. He is a "patriot." Unlike most watchers, he won't sit back and let others do the dirty work. The "dirty work" is what he was made and trained for.

Instead, Swan wields his psychic power to the best of his ability, for the cause he has never doubted. Even if what he does is wrong, he figures, he's too deeply entrenched. There's no way out but death, so he'd rather die thinking he was right than possibly knowing he was wrong.
Background:
Swan is old, tired, and experienced. Long ago, back in wartime, he as a greenhorn soldier learned to put his head down and grunt through tough times. Warped by shell shock, he quickly lost all sense of morality and became the ideal soldier. Once Division became interested in him, it didn't take long for Swan to resign from the military and to be recruited with the government company. He has risen to the ranks, and is now the head tracker.
Psychic Ability: Watcher
Allegiance: Pro-Division
Other Information: Swan's psychic power has deteriorated over time and because of age, but his physical condition is and will be for a long time in top-shape. He's an expert hand-to-hand combatant, on top of other various military skills he knows. He's also good at training others, which is why he has a small but loyal squad of psychics under his command.

Theme: 100 Years | Five for Fighting

Character Name: Lilith D. Selene
Age: 29
Gender: Female
Personality: Caring and motherly, A fierce protecter of the helpless and weak. Very wise.
Background: Once, Lilith lived the happiest life she could think of. Her abusive husband somehow dissappeared, her two sons and daughter were growing up to be fine young people, and, she became the one of the richest people in America thanks to some stock tips and a little bit of luck.
It all changed when her daughter, Lilith Delilah, began to show her powers along with her with her brothers.
Three days later, her children never came back from school.
Lilith has devoted her life to two things, to find her children, and to protect other powered people from whomever mean them harm.
Psychic Ability: Stitcher
Allegiance: Neutral but she does hold some hatred towards the Division, she belives they may have taken her kids.
Other Information: Lilith has a habit of taking in whoever she meets on the street into her home. She has a lot of friends due to this, homeless and rich.

AliciaRaeann
User Image
"We shouldn't have any reason to hide."

Character Name: Penelope Austin
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Personality: Penelope is a free spirit. It is her philosophy that psychics shouldn't be in the shadows, but come clean about everything. She is an idealist who doesn't yet understand how the world works. Division appears to her to be the only obstacle in the way of complete honesty with non-psychic people.
Background: Ten years ago, Penelope discovered something about herself: She could make illusions with her mind. Her mother and father had never seen anything like it, but they knew that it couldn't be good to advertise. They instructed her to never use her power and to continue acting like she was exactly the same as everyone else. This made her emotionally frustrated with parents who didn't seem to understand. When she was still young, she met a boy her age who somehow knew exactly what she was just by touching her pencil. He was a second-generation sniff who explained to her the world of psychics, living in the background, hiding from Division. He shared her idealistic opinion, but disappeared only a year later. She suspected Division kidnapped him. She continues the work that they started together, finding others and trying to build a community of people who chose to live in the light.
Psychic Ability: Shifter
Allegiance: Anti-Division
Other Information: Penelope uses her power often, unaware of any consequences. If Division ever wanted a first-generation Shifter, she'd be an easy target. By the way, she also goes by Penny, if that ever comes up.

Theme: The Great Escape – Boys Like Girls

AninOnin
User Image
"Apathy is a sort of living oblivion. You can kill a lifetime without feeling anything but skin."

Character Name: Shawn Leyton
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Personality: Shawn is reluctantly considerate of other people. As in, if he saw someone hanging from the edge of a cliff, he might sigh and slowly make his way to help. Mainly, he just looks out for himself. He does have a fondness for animals though.

Background: Unknown.
Shawn's always known about his ability somehow, having grown up with it since he can remember. He's used his ability to heal small animals such as squirrels and mice, moving on to larger animals, yet never trying to heal more than a scratch for humans.

Before Division found him, he had wanted to be a veterinarian. Now, not wishing harm on his foster parents, Shawn's currently looking for more psychics to band with, hoping for protection in exchange for his services, should they be needed.
Psychic Ability: Stitcher
Allegiance: Anti-Division
Other Information: Shawn is a first-generation stitcher, and has used his powers quite frequently, building up some form of experience, although he hasn't done any major alterations on humans.

Theme: Cherish | Ai Otsuka

AninOnin
User Image
"My sun sets to rise again."

Character Name: Cheryl Kanta
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Personality: Cheryl is an altruistic kind of person. Very optimistic, but not to the point of being unrealistic. She alternates between being sympathy and maintaining her optimism and hoping it's contagious. Which it usually is.

Background: Cheryl grew up like any normal kid until she reached fifteen. It wasn't until another highschooler suddenly stopped bothering her and left her lunchtable that she realized she held some sort of power over people. She still attended school until she graduated, then moved out of her parents home, all the while continuing to practice with her ability. Cheryl has tried to be very careful about when she does it and whom she practices on, caring not to disrupt people's daily lives too much.
Psychic Ability: Pusher.
Allegiance: Anti-Division
Other Information: Cheryl is a first-generation pusher.

Theme: Dare You to Move | Switchfoot

Byrne Black
User Image
"Envision. Invasion. Excavation."

Character Name: Vladimir Arseniy
Age: 25
Gender: M
Personality: Very aggressive when fighting, very snide and rude when talking. There aren't many who he respects, but the few he does are spoken to with the utmost.

Background: Not having much of a childhood, Vlad grew up learning most by himself. He had much respect for those who were above him in power, but this started to rise when he was in his 2nd year of high-school. The people who were his age would all be afraid of him. That or never be near him. Or both. His goals in life were set very high, and his mental prowess helped to attain his higher position at his first job. An insurance fund. Of course, he also abused his power along with careful planning to ease his way to the top, with a few casualties.
Division met him at his doorstep giving him the option of death or a new career. He gladly took it, in the hopes of taking over, but, found that his place under Swan was much better than the desk work. He discovered a way to vent his pent up malice upon new recruits who wanted to rebel.
Psychic Ability: Shifter
Allegiance: Pro-division
Other Information: Treats Swan Fitzgerald with much respect, following orders to the letter, whether he disagrees or not. Much like a puppet, yet he wouldn't hesitate to deny an order if it led to his demise, and would even betray his closest friends if so.

Theme: Jem - They
