So it had come to -this-, had it?
Returning to grovel to those impure rebels, halfbreeds, TRAITORS.
The thought caused her to snarl and growl, eyes narrowed as her black claws drew long lines in the sand while practically dragging her paws to take up more time.
She would be proud, she would be strong and she would demand her place back if only time to eat and fill her belly.

But as she drew closer and saw the stones that made up the old pridal dens, she felt the sickly sweet pang of seeing home, of seeing where she birthed and raised her old cubs...but thinking of that only brought back the pain of her betrayal and she snarled.

Keep it together old girl, don't lose your rag now.

A deep, rumbling sigh escaped the aged lioness, sunken golden eyes, once dazzling at some point in her life had become dull husks as she cruelly surveyed the dens as she approached.
Her tail flicking with obvious frustration and anger.

Who would be the first to greet her?

Age caught up to all, and Bodaway was no exception. The blood-red lion walked slowly, almost stiffly, back towards his den. Gray hairs peppered his black mane, almost turning the whole thing gray. Even his coat, once shining and gleaming like fresh-spilled blood, was beginning to dull. He felt aches where he hadn't before, and was starting to limp a bit.

But while his body protested it, his spirit was still that of a virile young lion. The gold eyes still shone with fire, if a bit dimmer. They didn't see quite as well as they had years before, but he could still see well enough to spot the dark red lioness. Was it a trick of his mind?

Stepping towards the other, he watched a moment. Her name escaped him... He'd never spoken to her, as far as he remembered, nor actually learned her name, or even really knew her personally. But he knew the pelt, remembered it far back in his cubhood. "Hey! You!" Such an elegant greeting, for a lion raised to be mannered...

Her ears were faster then she was at the moment, as someone called out to her they flicked in his direction and ordered her to pause her steps long enough to turn her eyes to the blood red male who had yelled out in such a crass manner.
If he was going to speak like that, she'd return such a 'well mannered' lion with the same politeness.
With a gruff snarl she flattened her ears to her skull and turned herself to face him.

Hmm, he looked partially familiar.

Probably a past cub from her generation, oh what did it matter.
He was in these lands and it probably meant he was one of the weak willed fools that had went along with the others.
Foolish, unforgiveable wretches.
However despite the snarl she spoke with the same strength and unwillingness to back down she'd grown since coming home.

"Don't snap at me with that foul tone, male!"

Moving closer, he looked her over. Yes, he'd definitely seen her before... But still, he'd never learned her name. "I apologize. I don't know your name." Stopping not far from her, he watched. "You look familiar... Like you belong here as much as I do..." She was definitely of the old blood. She had the hardened look of a Firekin who'd seen the last days of Makadari. "If I mentioned Makadari... Would you know of whom I speak?" It made him sad that the younger lions in the pride didn't quite understand the name, the meaning and fire behind it. It didn't evoke in them the same emotions it did for the older generations.

A few moments of standing her ground and letting out small threatening growls towards the impudent male had passed as soon as he spoke with a more docile tone, however that didn't seem to quell the females defensive state anhd she arched a brow quietly.
This male was old, ragged, but he had the scent of many years of fighting on him and that was enough to cause a more familiar, calming pulse within the back of her mind.
The pulse only grew as Madakari was mentioned and she briefly sat herself down.

"I would," She started. "My mother was Walii, his sister." She said in the same, grumbling tone that had seemed to come with age as she peered at him quietly.

"You're of the old blood, aren't you?" She asked as she peered at him, bringing herself to her paws once more as she started to circle him in a scrutinising manner.
Sniffing at him and peering at the redness of his aged pelt.
This was an old blood, wasn't it?
She was sure at one point she had seen him before.

"And to your earlier question, my name is Mpeka."

Makadari's niece... Now this was a special occasion of meeting. "Ah, one of the last members of pure royalty..." He smiled, a wistful look of days long gone in his eye. His heart was one torn, between old and new. He liked the influx of new blood, preventing inbreeding... But that was about all. He was old, set in his ways.

Focusing on her again, he nodded. "I am. I am Bodaway... As far as I know, last living son of Rowtag and Keezheekoni, both hunters of the old days under Makadari." Watching her, he kept his ears trained for any sounds that might be off. "So, you return to the lands of your forefathers? Of the lions of fire and sand, whos very name once struck fear in the hearts of all?" Even if they were old, there was still the chance to relive the days of yore.

A member of pure royalty?
Hmph, probably, she couldn't really have minded if her mother had been a Lady of the pride or not.
She'd barely been in the pride that long anyway thanks to that bird...that damn...blasted bird. Even the thought made the long scars on her back sting slightly and her muzzle wrinkle in a brief snarl of distaste before her attention was brought back to him.
That wistful smile made her briefly sneer in mild confusion at such an expression in these dark times, only to notice the look in his eyes and the sneer disolving into a tight lipped look of quiet apraisal.

At his answer of her question, she couldn't help but feel all the more relieved for it.
But that didn't make her any less tense, he'd still chosen to come here willingly and as far as she was concerned, this was tainted land now.

"Hrmph." She scoffed slightly at his words. "-Once- is right, Bodaway, we -once- struck fear into any unpure blood that came into our territory...now we're practically breeding with them."

She licked her teeth in disgust at the thought, ending her circling as she sat down infront of him and licked gently over the burning pads of her paws.

He let out a slight sigh. "Actually... We ARE breeding with them..." He looked towards the dens that had once been reserved for the king and his family, ears back just a bit. "I see only one point Kidondo made as valid... We were breeding our way into doom." He shook his head. "There are few of us, Mpeka, who are pure blooded... And most of us who are, are inevitably related... The new blood is the only good thing to come, so that we may shape it into as close to true Firekin as we can." After all, he'd met lions out there, in the rogue lands, that had some shred of Firekin blood in them. "There is potential yet to strike fear... But this is not how.. As we are, we are no better than the Pridelands, where anybody and everybody joins... When I passed through on my way home, I swore I saw a purple lion." He made a face, not liking that much. "I fear one day, the Firekin will no longer be reds and blacks... But purples, greens, and blues with some of the blood coming in."

He shook his head, clearing his thoughts. "What we need... Is to revive the slavery... Make the rogues feel LUCKY to be alive... Or wish for death. I miss it... I really do..." Not that he truly knew what it was to have a slave. That one lioness, Kimiko, had passed from being in Kiunguza's posession, and in a sense his, into the paws of Ripuka and her family.

This male's words did nothing to distill her current anger that bubbled up inside her, breeding with rogues!? This was an outrage, an offense to the Goddess!
But she didn't show it, yet, she simply listened quietly as her black claws flexed and gently dispersed the sand underneath her paws, it was until he mentioned the color of a lion...and the possibility of different colored blood.
The thought made her tremble.

"Blues!? Purples and greens!?" She snarled as she stiffened her limbs while standing, head lowered and ears flattened sharply against her skull.
"We'd allow creatures that bare the color of those damned MISTWEAVER's into our once proud home and breed more of the disdainful color!?"

The lioness practically hacked and spat as she clawed at the sand before she raised her head once more, baring a look of pure contempt and being none to shy about it.

"If I am ever to breed with some half blood or less, I would only see fit that they bore the proud colors of the Goddess."

With those words over she briefly looked to him and considered them, the slaves, she had taken a slave once...foolish little brown cub trotting into the lands hoping to take on a Firekin.
He got much for then he bargained for.
She then lifted her head so her eyes met his.

"What of Queen Kenna and the others...what is the case with the royal blood?"

"Indeed... I can see it now, the Firekin march into battle in colors of the rainbow, bearing flowers and the like..." He shook his head, dislodging sand long trapped in his mane. "We may as well move out of the desert into the savanna when that happens."

The aging male tilted his head, listening to her. "I think that may be why Kidondo is being picky on who he lets in... But mark my words, something improper WILL show up in a litter." He scowled. "I pray it is not the litter of one of my sons or daughters. As to the royal blooded... I do believe they have begun to merge with the impure. One of her brothers recently had a litter with a former rogue..." He scratched at an itch. Cursed sand fleas... "I forget his name... The one who sired the lad chasing my youngest daughter.. Boy looks unstable... I'm not sure where that instability came from, though.." Maybe the mother's side... Jua'taka never DID look too sane.

The utter thought DISGUSTED her, rainbow waves of the once proud army of Firekin marring the desert sands with their blues, their pinks, their greens. It caused her to hiss and to spit at her claws in a small snarl as she raked in anger at the golden grains beneath her paws.
What had become of her beloved pride.

Her ears swiveled briefly as the male spoke, oh yes he was still there. So wrapped up in her anger she must've forgotten she wasn't alone.
The Royals began to merge?
That cannot be.
The last shred of hope they had for purity had given in to the wild prince's plans of an impure pride!?

For a moment all she could do was stare at the male, chest heaving up and down with her angered breaths as her fangs slowly became more and more visible with the pulled flesh of her snarl. Staring aimlessly around for something, anything to hit that wasn't him before she threw up a violent pawful of sand into the air and followed with a forlone, rageful roar to the heavens.

"CURSE THE IMPURE ONES! THE GODDESS WEEPS AT THE LOSS OF HER CHILDREN'S BLOOD TO THESE ROGUES!!"

She panted heavily, standing there stock still and in slight shock at the adrenaline that coursed through her veins. On the verge of weeping and going into another volted angry rant.
