The almost torrential rain the night before had left the savanna a lush, wet, beautiful place.
Fresh, green shoots of grass sprang up from the earth, birds littered the ground and trees as they hunted for insects, and many animals had made their way to the many watering holes dotting the savanna.
Sellion was one of those animals.
But he was alone at his watering hole; no one else was around. Who could say why?
Grinning like a fool, Sellion lied beside the pool of water, tail twitching in its own crooked way. Then, he slammed his face into the wetness, drinking the water with his face submerged. It was an absurd way to drink rarely, if ever seen, but no one could ever question the male. After all, how could you question the soon-to-be-ruler-of-the-world?!
HE WAS TOO AMAZING TO BE QUESTIONNNNNED.
Mmm, yummy waters...

It was hot.
"No s**t," Durion muttered to himself, blinking the sweat out of his eyes. "This is Africa."
He'd spent the previous night wandering, looking for a place to hide from the pouring rain, but was unsuccessful in this endeavor, and was thus up the entire night walking, drenched in rain.
It had not been a fun experience to say the least.
But Durion was used to bad things happening to him. He was a magnet for bat luck and trouble. It seemed to follow him. So yeah, he was used to it...He was used to it...Dang, he was thirsty...But, of course, he'd never find any water for at least a few more miles. After all, lady luck hated--
...Was that...A watering hole?
Jaw dropping, Durion didn't even bother to look around before dashing towards the pool.
Sellion finally lifted his head from the water, shaking it about, water droplets splattered all over the place. He gasped and grinned, eyes wild as water dripped from his face. But amidst his shaking and grinning, something caught the male's eyes. Something...Almost...Familiar. His pupils thinned and he blinked, head moving his inches closer as he peered into the distance. Something dark, a mass of darkness, was coming to that watering hole. It resembled a rock...A dark rock...But only something that dark could be a demon. A demon rock?
Then, he remembered.
And a psychotic grin stretched across his black and pink face.
"Durionnnnnn..." he whispered, body starting to tremble with excitement.
Durion's legs were moving as fast as his tired body would allow, limbs stretched far as he made his way for the watering hole. He was tired from no sleep, and tired from walking for hours. And when he hadn't been walking, he'd been sitting in mud, hard rain slamming against his muscles. What a night that had been...Dang...
Finally, he was close. He breathed in the scent of water, tongue trailing over his dry lips. Black claws scraped against dirt, and Durion swung his body beside the liquid, face bending down to drink.
Cool liquid life embraced the inside of the lion's mouth and slid down his throat like a soothing silk blanket. Durion took in a breath while he drank, then let it out, eyes closed. He guzzled and guzzled until he couldn't guzzle anymore. When he was finished, he backed up and reared into a sit. He was smiling, finally content that his thirst had been quenched. He'd just find a nice, cozy spot around there to curl up and--
...Oh...Dear--...Dear gods...
When the male's head turned to survey his surroundings, he saw something he had hoped a long, long time ago to never, ever see again.
It was Sellion.
Silently, the lion stared.
A shudder ran down the cheetah's spine when the demon lion looked at him. Their eyes locked, and Sellion stared right back, unable to shake the grin that had taken control of his dripping-wet face.
"Hello..." the cheetah said smoothly, tongue trailing over his nose for a split second.
Surely, the strong demon lion hadn't forgotten him...From the look he was giving, Sellion guessed he remembered...
"How are you?" Sellion asked in a friendly way, tilting his head to the side. But the friendly look vanished, and he exploded into a loud fit of psychotic laughter.
Durion shuddered, too, but it wasn't from excitement.
Many thoughts and ideas came into his head; thoughts and ideas that would help him get away from that crazy freak of a cheetah. But there was a problem. He had so many thoughts and ideas at once that he didn't know which one to pick; rather, he didn't know which would be the best option. He could trigger violence in the other male merely by lifting a single claw. He didn't want that. No, he didn't want that again...Last time had been enough; MORE than enough. He never, ever wanted to experience that volcanic pain ever again. Never.
Never.
Black ears twitched once the cheetah began laughing. Durion's face winced into a grimace. His ears rang with the sounds, but he couldn't drown them out. The only escape would be to...Well, escape. He'd have to run. But there was little chance of a getaway when one was up against a cheetah, especially being so close to said cheetah. If it came down to a race, Durion would be the sure loser.
Sometimes, Durion hated life.
Sellion's body did a little swivel as he got to his feet, paws sliding against the dirt beneath him. He grinned and stared at the lion, never once taking his eyes off of him. Their eyes were locked in a solid, unbreakable stare, each one waiting for what was to happen next.
But it was only a few seconds later that Sellion started to set things in motion.
"Do you remember last time?" he asked in a whisper of a giggle.
Ohhh, Sellion remembered...Even if Durion didn't, Sellion did. He remembered...
He wanted it again...
Durion's eyes narrowed, holding his breath and nearly choking on his own silence. The air was still and try, and the sounds of birds chirping in the distance was almost deafening. But above all other sounds, the cheetah's whispers were loudest.
Oh, he remembered...He'd gotten some of the most painful injuries in his life from that fight...
But once again, he told himself, he would NOT allow anything to happen that would make him experience that same pain again.
He'd be a coward. Screw chivalry.
"Yeah," Durion answered quietly, carefully. One wrong move...Only one wrong move, and that cheetah would--
Heart jumping to his throat at the reply, Sellion didn't wait another minute before taking action.
Jagged claws scraped the ground for only split seconds until the cheetah had launched himself at the lion, teeth bared in a vicious grin, ready to bite hold of whatever they found first. They found Durion's cheek and brushed against it. Sellion opened his mouth wide, ready to chomp down hard.
But something found its way between Sellion's mouth and Durion's cheek. It filled the cheetah's teeth and Sellion bit down on it hard, not caring wat the obstruction was. It had been a blur of dark, and he didn't care. He just wanted to taste...
Teeth dug down hard and tore and ripped, but before he had a good grip, he found himself flying in the air. Since he didn't have any footing except the grip his teeth had, his teeth lost their hold, and the cheetah was sent flying into the watering hole. He landed with a splash and disappeared under the liquid surface.
Durion's heart was beating a mile a minute from the adrenaline. He saw the cheetah come at him, and he acted quickly. The white blur of teeth gave him a start, but he managed to throw his right paw up and block the bite just in time. So instead of ripping off half of his face, the cheetah split his paw open instead. Durion cried out in anger and pain at the deep, vicious, ripping bite. All he could think of was to get that cheetah OFF of him immediately.
Instinctively, the lion twisted himself to the right harshly, jerking his arm towards the water to throw the cheetah off of himself. He thought it hadn't worked for a moment when he felt the cheetahs' claws slice against his back as he tried to hold on, but it did work, and Sellion went flying. After hearing the splash, Durion didn't wait to see the outcome his plan had. Instead, he ran like HELL, not looking back. Each step was burning fire to his paw as it stretched and split a little more from his pounding run, and dirt and sand mixed in, but he ground his teeth and put it out of his head, focusing on getting out of there as fast as possible.
Lady luck seemed to be smiling on him for once, because Durion got away in one piece.
Sellion's head burst from the surface of the water. He whipped his wet hair back and sucked in a gasp of air, teeth flashing like an open-mouthed piranha. A few breaths later, the cheetah looked around, treading the water.
Durion was gone.
An anguished look came over Sellion's face and he pouted, dipping half of his face in the water as he swam to the edge of the watering hole. Clumsily, he gripped the side and flopped out onto dry land. He sprawled out like a dry fish and lied there for some minutes.
A certain smell roused him from his pathetic state, however...
Nose twitching and eyes lighting up, Sellion slowly got to his feet, keeping his long neck stretched out as he followed the scent like a dog. He only had to walk a few long strides before he found the source.
Bloody pawprints.
Ahhhhahahaaaaaa...
Sellion grinned.
He threw himself to the ground and licked the bloodiest paw print he could see, tongue picking up blood and dirt. He closed his eyes and sighed a deep, happy sigh. When his eyes opened again, his expression changed. Beside the paw print he had licked was another paw print ahead of it. Then another...Then another...
Sellion stood up and began walking, eyes focused on the bloodied paw prints as he followed them...
