France was a proud country with colonies all over the world. It, much like Great Britian, is accustomed to being important. Great Britian decided being the U.S.'s buddy was the best way to still seem to matter. Bitching about America is the route France has chosen. Because America is now the world power, France is jealous and feels they must make life miserable for the US.
Now, is that a valid excuse for being a pain in our a**? No. They need to take a seat. I created this topic purely for a more detailed perspective on France. I don't agree with them, but I know most people take Spanish for their foriegn language, so they don't know as much about France.
Notes: I am refering to governments not the people. France stopped mattering when they got taken over by Nazi Germany (late estimate) or after Napoleon I died (early estimate) (of course this is my opinion)

One of the big factors in the French attitude towards the US has to do with us being Britain's child. There is a long-standing dislike between France and Britain dating back hundreds of years. The thrones of both countries have had rulers from the other and they have battled back and forth across the channel, each seeking dominance over the other. And, although we separated from Britain, our relations with our parent country have been amiable after the war of 1812, whereas our relations with France have always been tenous at best...

If I said what I feel, I could be wrong, because I know I may very well be wrong in my opinion untill I've been to France for myself, I have before.
France is jealous, yes, but as with most of Europe, they are most likely upset because while they say someone needs to take action, we are the only ones doing so. We aren't afraid of anyone or anything, and for that France is jealous. At least that's what I believe, that's the reaction I get everytime America does something European countries say they wanted to do. We are brave enough to take action and we generally pull it off with flying colors, whereas they are too afraid of the consequences of failure to even take action, giving up before they have yet to fight, and for that they are jealous, and their jealousy has ruined them.

Very good perspective. I think you are right. I think everyone in this thread has offered plausible reasons for why France is put off with America.

I think the jealousy is a good answer...
Most of Europe, especially France is jealous, perhaps afraid of our success. We bailed Europe out of two wars, our influence is world wide, and we are most everything they they are not. Consisder also the most of Europe, especially France is leaning more toward socialism every day. Socialism literally sucks the life and creativity out of its people. I know for a fact the France has taken to stealing most of it's technology from other nations, especially US! Fance and most of Europe is on its way out, as they are undermining thier own society. The proof is their recent unscrupulous behavior in the "United Nothing" and Sadam.

Exactly...I think you're right. France will say they will take action with UN Resolutions...but the UN usually doesn't (and when they do decide to do something it ends up bad). Europe might be heading the way of a total socialist regime with their EU. We (America) needs a new arch-enemy to kill (we are at our best when other parts of the world are at their worst).
