Phase 1: Man‘s Return
The morning starts off just as it always has- the cubs are sent off to their nannies, the warriors to their chief to train, and the huntresses have set out to hunt for the pride‘s dinner. A routine hunt will turn out to be something much more than the hunting party has bargained for…

Opening:
Morning began once more with a powerful roar. Rotem, as his father before him and his grandfather before him, was always the first to wake. It was his responsibility to rouse the pride, oversee the gathering of the warriors to their assigned duties and drills. Adara would see that the cubs were efficiently gathered up out of their slumber and sent off to their respected nannies while their mothers joined up with the day’s hunting or scouting parties. It was a routine that had kept the pride safe for generations, a routine that every member of the pride could set the pace of their life to, a routine that would continue long after they had all passed on.

This area was legendary! Historians, scholars, and adventurers alike would give an arm and a leg to explore such a place. It had nearly cost them that. It was miserably hot, resources were used sparingly, and for those that were unfamiliar with the rough gait of the camels upon which they rode- it was murder on their bodies. Nights were spent huddled up around the fire, jumping at every cricket chirp and snapping twig in the distance while the days were spent babbling if only to keep their wits about them, sweating out whatever water they had been privileged to, and complaining about the damnable fleabags upon which they rode.
The party consisted of five guides, all having at least a year’s experience in the field. A pair of brothers had grown up just north of the site led the party while the others, more often than not, spent their nights on lookout. The English explorers, ten in total, had been hired as ‘body guards’ against the ‘wild beasts’. Each of them shared their own stories of the hunt around the campfire. One boasted three expeditions into Asia to claim a pile of tiger-pelts for himself. Another had brought down an Elephant not too long ago and had made a small fortune off the ivory tusks that he’d brought home with him. The others had similar stories, each of them sought to add another tale and, perhaps, a few trophies to accompany it by the end of the expedition. Twelve historians had funded the trip. Biblical scholars seeking the treasures of their faith, map-makers seeking to bring light to the wild lands, and archeologists seeking more clues into the past. Each of them had become the butt of at least one joke by their adventurer ‘protectors’. The small company had met and planned the trip from the safety of an English library, each of them having only ever seen the ‘wild beasts’ through bars or standing, stuffed, on tabletops and walls. Once or twice, the historians had fought off insects that had been slipped into their shoes or packs by their ‘trusted’ companions.
