He had entered familiar territory one day ago. He wasn't completely sure, but the terrain seemed very much like the plains he had spent his lonely week-long stay to prove that he was fit to be a Warrior. He didn't really recognize anything in practicular, it was more of a feeling. He felt he was getting closer, closer to what had once been his home. And hopefully it still was.
There was a fair possibility that the rogues had won and this was no longer the home of the Warrior pride. At the thought he felt a painful pang in his heart, but it was possible. And if it was that way he was putting himself in danger. However, he had no other choice. The Mzawa'kondo was where he belonged and he had to know if they were still there. If they were, he would finally be home again. If they weren't...he didn't want to think about that.
Klahan stopped in the middle of his stride as a sent assaulted his nose. It was somewhat familiar, but he wasn't completely sure. He was at the border of the pride's lands. He looked ahead at what he knew to be the land of the Mzawa'kondo. Had they survived the attack? He hoped so with all his heart. Slowly, he started moving forward, all senses alert. He wasn't going to let himself be surprised by those guarding the border. Especially since they could be the rogues that had attacked the pride.

The pride had managed to retain their lands, holding their ground against the Outsiders that had struck out against them. Slowly they were gaining numbers again... Slowly they were becoming what they once were. Each day, it seemed, another member of the pride returned. Each day spirits seemed a bit brighter. Each day it seemed as if Fortune was smiling upon them once more.
He had high hopes that soon enough they would even have enough warriors that he and Rasi would be able to return to their own duties. Not that he didn't enjoy the time he spent out on the borders, of course, but it was different... Different than it had been before when they weren't needed to stay in one place; when they could roam the entire borders checking in with each of the guards instead of guarding one line of their own...
His mind returned from its wandering as the sound of movement in the distance caught his attention, rising his guard once more as the hair on his back bristled. Duty. First and foremost his duty right now was to guard this border. A warrior before king.

He heard something move nearby. He paused in his step again, scanning the area with sharp eyes. He inhaled deeply several times, trying to sniff out whoever had made the noise and where they were. Klahan made several steps forward and a new sent reached his sensitive nose. Another lion was nearby. And a familiar one at that. Joy filled his heart and a smile settled on his face. 'Imara'Shujaa.' So they had survived after all. This were still the lands of his pride. He was home again.
Soon he spotted the pale lion with dark mane. "Mfalme Imara'Shujaa." Klahan greeted. "It's me, Klahan. I have returned."

"Klahan." He repeated the name, pale blue eyes settling on the smokey coat of the other male for a moment before lifting to meet the other male's gaze. There was familiarity in those eyes more than there was in anything else... A younger male, perhaps; one that had been more familiar to him with less of a mane and eyes that had seen easier times.
He lowered his head slightly as he stepped aside so that the other male could come closer to the borders. "It is good to see yet another familiar face return to the pride's lands; leaving as Kijana and returning as Asikari. Your task was harder than those who went before you, and those who will go after... But you returned. Welcome home."

With a smile on his face Klahan inclined his head as well and stepped closer. "It was a trying journey, yes. If it were not for a healer named Faraja, I would not be here today." He was very lucky that the kind lioness had found him when she did. Faraja had saved his life and made his return possible. He would have taken her back to the pride with him, but she followed her own calling.
He took in a deep breath of air. "It is good to be back." After a quiet moment he asked the question that had worried him most. "How has the pride fared since the attack?"

"Fortune does have a way of guiding us." He nodded slowly, eyes warmed by his smile as he glanced up at the other lion once more. "She does not seem to give us anything that we are not capable of withstanding. We took losses, but we are regaining our strength again... Every time someone returns home we find encouragement that all will be well once more."

As his king spoke, Klahan felt the tension that had burdened him for so long slowly leave him. He felt relaxed, really relaxed. He had been prepared to hear something much worse, but as always the Mzawa'kondo had prevailed. "This is great news." He smiled as well and silently thanked Fortune for watching over them.
Looking ahead he said "It would be wonderful to see everyone again." He wanted to see his mentor again and thank him for teaching him so well. He also wondered how big the cubs he had known before and often played with when he was not on duty had gotten. At this moment he wanted to speak to every pride member and learn what had happened to them while he was gone. He would have plenty of time for those things, he thought with a smile.

"I am sure that everyone would agree." He nodded slowly, a warm smile curving his muzzle. "The Zengea should be returning from their hunt soon. If you go quickly enough you might be able to meet up with the others for the meal. The young ones always try to eat more than their share, but they're learning."

Klahan chuckled. "Ah, yes, the cubs tend to do that, I remember. Well, I should better go." At the mention of food his mouth watered. He hadn't realised how hungry he was, what with the excitement over being home. "Mfalme." Klahan bowed his head at Imara'Shujaa once more and he was off. His heart pounded in his chest as he imagined the whole pride gathered together for a meal. How he had missed those little moments.

He watched the other lion run off before shaking his head, caught somewhere between amusement and the thought that, deep down, some things never changed. He waited a moment longer before pushing himself back up, stretching out slowly only to return to his traveled path not long afterward. While some could take this time to relax others still had to work... And he, as king, was one of them.
(( Finished. ))
