User Image The sun was low in the sky, tinting the air with a soft orange-pink color. A dog gave a yawn, and other day-light creatures were getting ready to sleep for the night. The twittering of birds was fairly soft, and diminishing from the area.

Leini spread her body across the soft dirt, soaking up the last rays of light. She gave a sight and placed her head on her paws, ears flattening against her head. Thoughts of her past tended to haunt her, especially this close to the night hours. The red-eyes dog started off into the distance, absentmindedly thinking of her pup that she had left. She remembered how she felt when he was born - nothing. She had no real maternal insincts before. Post-pardum depression, but she didn't know that.

However, after she snapped out of the depression, she realized that she had constantly left, and had a falling out with her mate. She traveled the next day, and by chance found a new mate. Machu. Leini gave a fond smile at the thought of her orange mate and thought of her new children.

It warmed her heart.

Machu had nosed Keki, the last of the pups back up into the den for the night. He poked his head inside and counted each of them. There were only six bodies huddled in the corner which meant there was still a missing body. The male of the family did not need to think about who was missing. The orange male smirked and headed back down to the savanna.

"Leini's missing again," he scoffed silently to himself and started off to find his mate. "Making me work. Oh she's gonna get it..."

The dog, noteable for being lazy, sprinted quickly off in a flash in the direction of Leini's most recent scent. Though he may be lazy, he had a body of an ideal hunter, strong, powerful, and quick. One may not think of him as such a killing machine with his lazy demeanor, but he can change if he certainly has to.

Leini gave another sigh, not paying attention to the area surrounding her. Her frown returned as she thought of Dejiki, the pretty blue and white pup that looked just like her, but in blue. Another depressed sigh escaped her as she thought.

She shifted, lifting her head to look at the falling sun, ears still down. It hurt her eyes a bit, but she ignored that, eyes glazing over in thought.

She didn't, and wouldn't hear anyone come up to her, and the twittering birds, though still noisy, she didn't hear at all.

Machu didn't take long to find her. The quicker he got his job done, the quicker it was over and it was back to sleeping. He had burned up half of his energy just running out here, sleeping would replenish it. The orange dog walked up quietly beside him mate, pressing his nose against her neck and a lick on her cheek.

"You should stop disappearing on me. Worrying me like that, more so the pups..." Well, he was indeed worried about her. The frequent disappearances Leini made led Machu to believe that she may have had another male for herself. Was it because he was lazy? He was fit. He was strong. The only flaw he had was his laziness... right?

If it weren't for that paranoia, he wouldn't have to move that much and just wait for her to come back to him and the pups.

"Watching a beautiful sight alone is a shame, isn't it?"

Leini, at first, was startled, but realized quickly that only Machu would do something so sweet. She gave a smile and turned her gaze from the falling saun to her brightly colored mate. "I'm sorry," She said with a sigh. "I was just thinking."

She gave a wide yawn and nuzzled her mate quickly and looked back towards the sun. "It is a beautiful sight, isn't it? Now you're here though, so I have someone to share it with." She responded.

Machu's fears were unfounded. She would feel horribly guilty and upset if she ever decided to leave Machu. She didn't know if she could take it herself. She was used goods before she met Machu - it was a wonder he even took her in.

He's been so good to her...

"But still, I'm sorry for worrying you. I shouldn't have run off like that..." the again hung in the air dramatically, left unsaid, but he probably knew what she meant.

He sighed softly, pulling her close to him, his tail flicking over her back and nosing her affectionately. Though he worried about her, it did bother him that she kept disappearing without telling him. He wanted to know where his family was and what they were doing in case something were to happen. Given that he sleeps long and frequent, he just felt assured of things when he woke up knowing that this dog was in this location before he fell asleep.

"You keep running off and I worry. To be frank, I am starting to think that because I am so lazy, you found another male to please you and sire a new litter, start a new family..." He murmured, nosing her more. Paranoia, but he did not care, he worked his butt off to sway her to his side. Though he was an ideal dog, it was his laziness and sleeping that made him fault.

Machu hung his head, thinking of his children. Thinking about himself and the family. Looking at his mate, he thought back at to why they got together in the first place and the reasons for it.

"I am sorry, Leini..." he added, moving himself away from her, sitting with his back to the white female.

She didn't know what happened. First he was nuzzling her affectionately, the next he was moving away from her. The heavy words hung in the air, and Leini's red eyes went wide.

"Machu..." She pulled herself up and stepped closer to her mate. "I'm not seeing anyone else. I'm not, I swear by the Gods," She was shaking slightly. She couldn't do that again, especially not now. She still felt the guilt of leaving her last pup.

She moved to nuzzle him, hoping she wouldn't move away from her touch. The emotions were tearing at her heart. "I wouldn't leave you..."

Machu turned over his shoulder.

"I'm sorry from keeping you from looking for your first pup," he admitted, his ears swiveling back against his head. He was uncertain how she would take it after all. It was what she had wanted to do when they first met, it was what she was doing when they first encountered one another. He could only assume that her short disappearances were her searches for the pup.

If it weren't for him, she'd still be looking for the pup and she would have been reunited by this time.

"Machu..." She spoke softly. She gave a soft sigh. "It isn't your fault. I'm here because of you, and our life together now... I wouldn't change that." She shifted closer to him, attempting to offer him comfort and to seek comfort for herself.

"I made a mistake in my youth, and conceived a pup," She shook her head almost unwilling to continue. She wanted to, but it was still hard on her. It broke her from her usual happy demeanor - the guilt, and the rage towards herself, and the slightly lingering depression.

She remained silent, and contemplated her next words.

"With the litter growing as is, you are almost ready to conceive again," Machu spoke, bringing a paw to he belly and a nose to hers. He knew it. Leini was his mate and it was his job to be sure to know what was going on. Though, sleeping was all he did, he still tried to make sure he was on top of things.

"If you want to, we could look for your pup like I said I would help you with, or we could remain where we are for the time and," the male smirked as his tail wagged slightly. "Grow our family."

The change of subject was quick, but it was something else he had on his mind to. He wasn't going to linger on a subject that had a male other than himself who was with his mate and sired a pup with her.

Leini was glad for the change in subject. Clear relief shone on her face, then she gave a smile at the light touch to her belly. "I am. Soon. The pups aren't quite old enough yet though." She shook her head lightly. Her pups made her happy. She was quite proud.

"It's alright. He'll eventually find us, if my, and his fathers, blood is anything to go by... But I would like very much for our family to grow." Red eyes glittered happily, if not a little misceiviously.

"Lets just hope that your son is alright and finds us. With you as his mother, I am sure he is just fine on his own."

Machu smiled and nipped her playfully. He had notions in his head just like any other male. But unlike many, he had one to play with. "Well, the pups are fast asleep back at the den and will be for some time. So we could take our sweet time getting back," Oh how Leini knew how he worked far too well. "If your son does find us, he is helping us with this family."

Leini gave a small nod to her mate - happy that any disputes were avoided. The accusation hurt a bit, striking her down to her very core. He wasn't wrong to accuse her though, as she had done it before. With a small sad smile she nuzzled him back, very glad to have him.

She grinned though. "We could," came her reply. She gave him a slight wink. She gave a snort. Of course her pup would - but then, the six now, they were soon old enough to produce their own pup and care for themselves.

Machu lifted a brow at her solemn smile, tilting his head in question. Was it something he said? ... he pondered the words he spoke moments ago to find possible double meanings in them that could have affected his mate. None came to mind. But maybe, she got them and he simply didn't. He nosed her softly and smiled to try to cheer her.

"Come, lets walk home. I don't want to here the little ones crying as to where we are." Machu licked and nuzzled her cheek before taking the lead home.

She returned the smile, this time it sparkled in her eyes. "Alright," She started to trot after him before coming up at his side - after all they were walking home together. She nuzzled her mate agian, for good measure. She loves him, she really does. Making it to the den, she practically ducked inside and found a spot where both Machu and herself could lay comfortably.
