 There were times when a grunt just needed to get away from the base. For one thing, how were you ever supposed to find yourself new Pokemon if you never went anywhere? Unfortunately, Nikki still couldn't go out and steal from a random trainer with just a Pidgey. Well... not a worthwhile trainer anyway. Thus, the day found the blonde grunt walking through the desert and towards the mountains, looking for any wild Pokemon that caught her interest. She had come across the occasional Sandshrew and Cacnea, of which Darkfeather had easily beaten. But neither of those was a Pokemon that she was looking for. She was beginning to get aggitated and about ready to give up when something caught her eye in the distance. Since she was near the mountains, various rocks and boulders were scattered about. What caught her eye was an orange lump with a flicking flamed tail that appeared to be basking in the sun.

Having just finished her training and obtained the position of a Grunt, Akemi had been given a little bit of time off that day, which she had decided to use by training her trusted partner, her Bulbasaur Fushigi. While they were out, the young girl preferred to let her companion out of its pokeball so it could walk around with her.
Not the kind of behaviour expected from a Team Rocket member, perhaps, but she valued her one and only teammate enough to treat it with respect.
They'd been roaming all over the island all day, for Akemi wanted Fushigi to be able to battle different types of Pokémon, not just those it had the advantage against. Still, there was the problem that most wild Pokémon on the island were relatively weak, meaning there was no real challenge unless the opponent had a type advantage. Which naturally narrowed down choices of area quite a bit.
"Gah.. if only we'd gone to town to pick a fight with newbie trainers.." Akemi sighed, leaning back against a tree. She'd wanted to see if there were any Bug- or Bird-type Pokémon in the forest, but so far it had been awfully quiet. Frustrating, to say the least. Being only seventeen, Akemi wasn't blessed with much patience. A few strands of black hair had escaped from her ponytail, and she decided to fix it before continuing on.
"Okay, I guess we should keep look--" her sentence was cut off as she heard something relatively close by. Someone, or something was moving towards the mountains. Was it a Pokémon, or maybe a trainer? Perhaps another Team Rocket member? In any case, she would either get to battle or at least find some company. It seemed like Fushigi had read her mind - or her face, more likely, for it was already a few steps ahead, walking to where the noise came from.

Darkfeather, who sat on Nikki's shoulder, peered with narrowed red eyes at the orange lump among the rocks. Hmph. It looked like he might actually get to battle something a little more challenging. The Pidgey fluffed up his feathers, seemingly not bothered by the hot desert climate despite his dark coloration.
As Nikki approached, the orange lump suddenly looked up and growled. Instead of fleeing, the Charmander lept down from the rocks and bared its teeth at the oncoming Rocket grunt.
"Well well. Seems like this one has got an attitude. Perfect."
She didn't want any wimpy Pokemon after all. Nikki then pointed at the snarling Charmander. "Darkfeather, go! Use Quick Attack!"
The Pidgey wasted no time and rapidly dove for the Charmander, sending it head over tail into the sand with the impact. The fire lizard then lept to its feet again and blasted an ember attack at DF. The Pidgey squawking as the flame cinders lightly scored his feathers.
Little did Nikki know that she and the two Pokemon were not alone.

Hearing the sounds of a battle made both Akemi and Fushigi pick up their pace. They loved to watch others battle almost as much as they loved being a part of those battles. Soon, a rocky clearing came into view, and they saw a blonde girl in the Team Rocket uniform, as well as her Pidgey battling a wild Charmander. The lizard seemed to be in a very bad mood, judging by the way it kept attacking.
Fushigi watched the two Pokémon intently, obviously wanting to join in. Akemi looked down at her partner and simply shook her head. "It's their fight, not yours", she said bluntly, and Fushigi sat down, quite disappointed.
Akemi positioned herself against the nearest tree, making sure she could see everything that went on without interrupting the fight. Even though the Charmander was a lot bigger, the other girl's Pidgey seemed to hold against it quite well. "Yeahh! That's the spirit!" Akemi couldn't help but cheer Darkfeather, but immediately covered her mouth in embarrassment. She'd let herself get carried away again...

A smirk was on Nikki's face as she watched. She had confidence in her little Pidgey and knew that he stood a good chance in beating this Charmander.
"Now, Sand-Attack!" Nikki called. Darkfeather landed on the ground and turned to kick his feet at the fire type. Sand sprayed right into the Charmander's eyes, causing it to stumble backward and claw at its eyes, temporarily blind. This didn't do anything to help her mood and she gave out a Growl, lowering DF's attack.
Nikki huffed at that, but her attention was then diverted as she heard a shout. Another Rocket grunt and her Bulbasaur were watching nearby.
She gave them a sour look. This was not a public spectacle! But so long as they didn't get in her way, she would tolerate it.

 It was then that another Charmander suddenly lept up from behind some other rocks and came running down. Supposedly to the aid of the other Charmander. It lashed its tail and looked between the two humans. It seemed that the other of its kind was out numbered.

((Argh, I'm sorry for my tardiness! I've had a friend over and didn't get online for two days. x__x My deepest apologies!))
Akemi chuckled nervously at the other grunt's glare. She didn't mean to offend her... She just couldn't help getting excited over battles.
Then, all of a sudden, another Charmander appeared, and both Akemi and Fushigi tensed up. This could be their chance to shine!
"Ready, Fushigi?" she asked her companion with a grin, and the Bulbasaur nodded, readying itself for battle. The girl brought her left hand to her belt, placing her fingers on one of the Pokéballs she carried with her. This could be the perfect chance to catch another Pokémon, after all.. they'd have to be careful.
Akemi glanced over to the other team once more, to see how they were doing. The dark Pidgey was holding up against the much larger fire lizard amazingly well. Turning her attention back to their opponent, she commanded, "Fushigi, try to Tackle it!"
Fushigi sprang forth, running towards its opponent at almost full speed, attempting to knock it off its feet.

Nikki side glanced at the other grunt as she decided to take on the other Charmander. It didn't matter much to her so she said nothing. Instead her attention was focused on the Charmander that her Pidgey was already fighting.
"Now, use Gust!" she shouted at Darkfeather. The wings of the little Pidgey fluttered and blew a decently strong bought of wind at the Charmander who was knocked back a bit. However, the fire type seemed to be just as stubborn and hard headed as its opponent and lept at the Pidgey in a Scratch attack.
Darkfeather shrieked as his feathers went flying from the attack, which caused Nikki to scowl a little bit.

The blow from the Bulbasaur's Tackle hit soundly buy the Charmander seemed hardy enough that it only stumbled back and managed to keep its footing. Still, the fire lizard snarled and narrowed its eyes at the grass type. It wasn't a stupid Charmander after all and breathed in deeply before spitting out a blast of Ember at it.

Fushigi turned its head just in time to shield its face from the flame, but still it winced from the pain. Fire was one of the grass-type's greatest weaknesses, after all. It was a good thing Akemi always gave the Bulbasaur some berries to hold, for occasions just like this. Still, Fushigi refused to resort to the berry just yet, for the damage wasn't that great.. Still, another Ember would probably inflict a burn, and then something would have to be done.
Akemi was determined to capture this Charmander, for it seemed to have a lot of attitude.. The young grunt was now weighing her options. Sleep Powder could buy them some time, but if it missed.. then Fushigi would be in trouble. Vine Whip wouldn't do that much damage.. Still, it was worth a shot.
"Fushigi, use Sleep Powder!" she commanded then, and a cloud of fine spores were released from Fushigi's bud towards the Charmander.
"Please, fall asleep.. if even just for a moment.." Akemi pleaded in her mind.

By this time, the Charmander that Nikki was dealing with was panting a bit. It seemed to be getting tired. Yet, the little flame lizard wasn't quite ready to give up. Still, she didn't want to over do it.
"Darkfeather, Tackle it." And in response to her command, the black bird lept at the Charmander and managed to knock it back. However, the fire Pokemon tried to retaliate with an Ember that ended up missing.
Now this was looking a lot more favorable as the Charmander wasn't readily getting up. Taking out a black ball from her pocket, she tossed it up and down in her hand a few times before hurling it at the weakened Pokemon. The ball opened and a black aura seeped out and engulfed the Charmander, sucking it into the dark ball. It then fell to the ground a few times before finally going still.

The attack worked! The dust from the sleep powder fell on the Charmander and it fell back on its butt, falling sound asleep. At least for the time being.

Akemi grinned happily, glancing over to the other grunt who seemingly just captured the Charmander she'd been battling.
Maybe they'd have as much luck, even though the ball the girl had used seemed quite unusual..
"Okay, Fushigi, Tackle it again! Let's hope it won't wake up.." Akemi told her Bulbasaur, which leapt toward the Charmander while the girl took out a pokeball, ready to toss it at the lizard the moment Fushigi knocked it down. Luckily she always had a lot of pokeballs handy, so even if one failed she could always try again..
Fushigi ran into the fire lizard at full force, and Akemi tossed her pokeball at it, crossing her fingers.

Walking over to the ball, Nikki stooped down to pick it up and held it in one hand as Darkfeather landed at her feet. She then turned her attention to the battle not far away. If the other girl got to gawk at her battle, then she had every right to gawk in return.
However, a brilliant glow coming from her feet caught Nikki's attention and distracted her from the fact that the other grunt was also trying to catch a Pokemon.
Looking downward, Nikki discovered that the source of light was coming from her own Pidgey. Darkfeather was almost completely obscured in the brilliance, but there was suddenly a noticable change in size.
The light soon faded and the Pidgey, now a Pidgeotto, spread his wings and squawked triumphantly. Darkfeather had evolved! The Pidgeotto then folded his wings once more and ruffled his featers, tilting his red gaze up at his trainer as if looking for her approval.
Nikki went from looking astonished to a pleased grin spreading across her face. The other grunt and his Bulbasaur were completely forgotten as she bent down and scritched at her bird's head.

The snoozing Charmander seemed to be completely oblivious to all that was around it. The tackle from the Bulbasaur successfully knocking him over. However, despite the blow, it continued to doze on as if nothing had happened. Even curling into a little ball and holding onto its tail. With the ball lobbed in its direction, it bounced off the Charmander and then sucked it inside. There was barely any resistance and soon the red and white orb became still and signaled a successful capture.
