Fishman Island is an underwater island which dwells 10,000 meters under Mariejois, in a giant hole that goes under the Red Line. It serves as an underwater gateway to the New World for those who do not wish to cross over the Red Line above. It is the home of the Fishmen and some Merfolk. Though it is literally directly under the main seat of power of the World Government, it is however controlled by Whitebeard.[1]

In the great darkness of the sea floor, one light acted as a beacon for Mizuki.

As she swam along the bottom of the sea, ignored by Sea Kings for the most part, she followed that great hazy glow, like a golden bubble. Clearer, and clearer, and clearer did it get as she approached it until finally....she was there.

And oh it was so beautiful.

You wouldn't have even guessed it was just a big hole underwater. The ceiling seemed so distant that it seemed invisible. The many buildings of the Fishmen and Merfolk steeped up the walls like little miniture barnacles, pooling down and around the center where a mighty fortress stood, belonging, as of now, to Boss York, current head of Fishman Island.

Mizuki swam easily into the crowds of fishmen and merfolk (and the odd human visitor) while once again admiring the scenery. Coral gardens, in a rainbow of beautiful hues and tones, climbed the walls of the houses, sprouted in the parks, or simply stood alone on the side of the road. The sand bricked houses, tempered under flame into walls, were crystalic and glazed, which, combined with the special lights of Fishman Island, gave the place it's ethereal glow.

Finally, Mizuki swam past the guards at the gate. No halting was necessary, they knew who she was anyways. Greetings shot at her from old friends all around.

"Mizuki!"

"What's up ya little rascal?"

"Shut up ya dorks!" she yelled back grinning. She hurried even faster to Boss York's great hall, where he and most of his crew often hung out at. True enough, the room was packed with Fishmen, and a few adoring girlfriends of the crew. But Mizuki looked tearfully joyful at the enormous fishman sitting at the very end, with a very prominent nose...

"Boooooooossss!"

"Boss! Boss! Boss!"

Wailing happily at the rekindling of their reunion, Mizuki dashed eagerly forth to hug the said boss. However, in her excitement, she comically ran her head into the sharp pointy nose. She fell back with a squeak to the lightly bleeding forehead, inciting a booming laugh from the fishman.

"Whoops! Easy there sport-"

"I'm fine! I'm fine! I hate doctors!" she said quickly, recovering fast.

York was quite large, even bigger than Turner. A great long fin trailed up his spin through a slit in his hawaiian styled shirt, and his prominent nose must have been two feet long...sharp and silver. But his expression was jolly at the sight of his good crewmate, and they had a proper hug with greetings all around.

"Welcome back Junior Boss!"

"Mizuki! Welcome back!"

"Boss..." she said, a little urgently, "I need to...talk to you."

"I heard from Mikou," he said, grave now, "Let's go out to the garden."

The coral garden was lovely, pink brain coral, kelp, and others blooming magnificently on the floor of it. Floating in the garden, Mizuki looked a little flustered, like a child caught doing something wrong.

"I...need somewhere to train secretly....without being found out."

"Well that's what secret means," he said bluntly, "But why? You were so eager to set out with some of the boys before..."

"Yes, I am. But...I found him...." York looked geniuely surprised.

"You mean, Kiridiki's killer? You mean it?"

"Yes. He's Johann Munsehr...and...it's complicated. But I can't face him at my current strength. My techniques aren't perfect, and he's bound to find a way down here on his own! Please Boss....can't you help me?"

York sighed, and planted a hand on her shoulder. "I must be spoiling you for this," he groaned, "but alright. I'll keep ya underwraps if he gets here. And if he knows, I do have the right to knock his lights out right?"

"Oh absolutely sir!" Mizuki exclaimed in relief, "But don't kill him. I need him later."

Johann rolled towards Fishman Island. He periodically activated his 'Gear Second' to tell where Mizuki was, but it was getting more difficult. There was another 'mote' near her hat burned almost as brightly as Matsu's and Kravinoff's did. Whoever Mizuki was with was serious trouble. He rolled into the city, ignoring the various Fishmen and Merfolk who looked sidelong at him, and concentrated as much as he could to tell where Mizuki was. He couldn't find her. He turned to a nearby Fishman, standing guard over the gates to a fortress. "I am a doctor currently searching for a patient of mine, her name is Mizuki Hart. Do you know her whereabouts?" the Fishman laughed and flipped Johann the bird. Johann, supremely irritated, returned the gesture. "She is past you, yes?" He nodded. "And you will let me pass." He shook his head. Johann sighed. Time for the ultimate threat. "I know that York-chan is sitting inside that palace, and that he routinely entertains humans from the surface. I also know that you have diver's suits ready inside a dryroom for when Devil Fruit users visit this place. Either you will let me, Arzt-Krieger, pass or I shall make sure that York finds out that one of his comrades is being kept out." The streets were suddenly silent, every Fishman and Merfolk within earshot straining to hear the guard's response. Finally, the pike Fishman spoke. "Code, please?" Johann tapped out a tattoo on the side of his bubble. The guard nodded and stepped aside. "Get in. You know where the dryroom is."

Johann rolled inside the fortress, the guards closing in behind him, one of them walking off, presumably to tell York of Johann's arrival. He entered the dryroom and got out of his bubble, a slight splash of water protesting the low quality of the rushed job. He got inside a surprisingly streamlined suit and, ignoring the air tanks, placed the helmet on his head. The whole thing was amazingly lightweight and maneuverable, weighing no more than twenty pounds all told. "And now I shall see if York-chan is ready to greet an old friend."

"Boss! Boss!"

The two turned to one of the fishmen who had hurried to the gardens. "What's up?" questioned Mizuki.

"There's a Munsehr here for you-"

"s**t!" Mizuki cursed, before clapping a hand over her mouth. How'd he get down here?! She looked fervently at York, who patted her back reassuringly.

"I'll keep my word. Go tell Munsehr to be patient." he instructed the fishman. As he hurried off, York leaned over to Mizuki.

"As for your training, go to the arena. You know how it's airtight?" she agreed. She'd been there countless times. The entire building was friendly to non-fishmen, and was dry. But now York owned it as a private building for private fights.

"Take the water from the arena," he instructed, "Around the walls, all of it. For the next day you'll need to be able to hold the entire thing without dropping a single drop of water." Mizuki's eyes widened, but she nodded. This would not be an easy task. York nodded back.

"Alrighty then. Get to it."

He dropped the keys to the arena in her hands, and she dashed off. York then proceeded to...welcome..his guest.

"Arzt-Krieger," he greeted, "What brings you to my island?"

Johann bowed. It was always smart to be polite to someone who could, at the present time, kill you with one finger. "Hello, York-chan. I am looking for a certain Junior Boss of yours. She has run out on me, and I am quite afraid that her treatment is not yet done. While she has made quite a recovery since the battle at Marinford there is still one small but very dangerous injury of hers that has yet to heal. If it is not treated swiftly it may well kill her." This, at least, was the truth. Johann had seen one small flaw in Mizuki's 'mote,' a discoloration, a tarnish, something wrong with it. He could tell what it was, somehow. Until she 'killed' him she'd still carry that grudge, and if it was strong enough to affect the most basic foundations of her personality it must run deep... He looked York in the eye. "Also, a word of warning: We are uncovered. An Unnamed and I were both taken prisoner by the World Government, and in the process of our escape Leuchten and Gefrieren were both exposed. Leuchten's bounty has been raised and Gefrieren's status within the Marines has been revoked. I fear that Zeit-Wechsler may be in danger of discovery. If he is uncovered then all is lost. He has spoken with me, and all those of 7-2 and above are to assemble. You are required by the leader of the Orden to join us in a meeting, Rank 7-2, Unmenschlich-Kopf." He brightened up. "However, for the moment I need merely to tend to Mizuki Hart's wounds. Where is she at the moment, and why in the name of all that is good and decent have you allowed her in there?" He saw the look on York's face. An explanation was required. "I ate the Yomi Yomi no Mi and then died. My 'Gear Second' lets me sense the 'life' of others. Mizuki's is quite... singular."

York absorbed all this new information behind a cool, emotionless mask.

"Most interesting." he evaluated, "But my Third Commander very much wishes not to see you now...and you know how I am about promises. She won't see you and I won't permit you to see her, if she wishes. I understand," he looked around at the quiet fishmen standing by, "That I do spoil my crew on occasion, but it's Mizuki's choice. She won't see you, even if it means enduring any injuries."
_____

At the arena, Mizuki looked very much like the mermaid Atlas.

The pools of water in the arena were completely dry. Instead, they now wobbled dangerously in her hands, veined together with the technique, and looming above her head like and enormous bubble of water. The strain of holding the sheer weight of it was nothing compared to the concentration needed to hold it together.

Mizuki dared not to even look to the locked doors. Munsehr could enjoy the scenery all he liked, but she would not put up with him interrupting her training.

Johann's eyes within the helmet were blood-red. when he spoke his teeth showed, an inch long in his mouth and needle-sharp. "Yes, I know how you are about promises, but I do not think you understand me, Unmenschlich-Kopf. It was not a request. She is in serious danger, and as a physician it is my sworn duty to see to her injuries, something I will do whether I must step over your unconscious form or not. Do not take offense at this, merely note the fact that though I am suppressing the urge to rip your throat out I have not yet attacked." He tried to step by York, only to find a gigantic arm blocking his way. Johann gripped the wrist and lightly squeezed. There was a soft noise as York's bones ground together. "If it helps, think of this as an unpleasant order. This is, at least partially, the business of the Orden, and within that organization I outrank you, as 8-1 Arzt-Krieger." He slid under York's arm and walked toward the training room.

((last post for tonight, and yes, there is a reason Johann has that rank. Oh, and if you want to know what Johann's saying just highlight the blank spaces.))

"********." cursed Mizuki as she began to sweat under the pressure, "s**t."

The calm waters and fish of the outside seemed to mock Mizuki. The water felt heavier and heavier with each passing moment, and she had to shift her feet occasionally to keep them from going numb with the pressure. They actually began to crack into the flooring of the arena.

A knock at the window almost made her knees crash into each other. She managed to turn her head enough to see the problem.

A small fishboy, glad to have gotten her attention, wrote something down, before waving it. Mizuki swore as she read it.

"Munsehr coming."

The next movements were tricky, and the end results might make things even more difficult for training. She molded the water so she could scoot back to a switch panel without dropping any. Enormous strain depending on her two feet, she manuevered her tail to flip one in particular.

The groan of steel being pulled out rang through the arena. Plate upon plate cascaded up until they closed at the top, sending the arena into total darkness. This was the cage match special. Not having the time to flip on the lights, Mizuki followed the indents made by her scooting feet to her original spot, closing her eyes and focusing on the water only, she concentrated with the single triumphant thought in mind.

Locked doors. Steel walls. Complete solitude. She'd like to see Munsehr slither his way through this one.

Johann walked into the dryroom entrance to the training room, and as the door shut behind him he saw the sealed hatch in front of him. She'd locked herself in. His appearance was normal now, but that just meant he'd gotten his rage under control. And there would be a reckoning when York and he met again. For the moment, though, he needed to focus on getting inside. He let himself dissolve and exit the suit, re-forming outside the crumpling shell. His black coat and formal dress were back. He let his teeth grow again, but not to the point that they would hinder his speech, and he made some other minor physiological changes. When he was done a perfect vampire stood in the dryroom. He extended his hand and placed it on the steel wall blocking his entrance into the training room and let his other arm wither into dry dust, which flowed through his body and out over the steel, searching for the smallest crack, the most microscopic flaw in the steel that could be exploited. "Made by those alive and not by natural forces, it is not perfect. Only that which is Created, not that which has been Made, is without flaw, without tarnish or prejudice, without a piece of the Creator's vanity." He found a crack, so small as to be invisible to the naked eye, that wormed its way through the steel before emerging somewhere on the ceiling. He 'flowed' into the small gaps between steel sheets, a plane of dust and grit undulating through the cracks. The countless motes concentrated on the crack that Johann had found and all fell through it, moving through the air so that when he recreated his body it was in front of the entrance. He bowed to his astonished opponent. "Guten Tach, Frau Fisch. Are you ready? It is time for your physical... your final physical."

She clenched her teeth so tight they could've broken. Her eyes weren't open for a fraction. And she tried her hardest to zone him out of her hearing.

It wasn't fair.

Didn't she deserve to be away from him? She sought him, she found him, now she had every right to postpone their fight. She had the right. And him? He was just meddling.

"Go away," she hissed deadly, not dropping her concentration on the water ball above her shoulders, "I'm not ready..."

Mizuki felt him move from her feet, even in the darkness. She scooted away.

"Go away!" she screamed, "Don't you get it?! You can't go around helping everyone who wants to beat you! You can't! You can't!" Her shouts were less of a fact...and more of a demand.

Didn't he understand anything? She could never ever need him!

Johann shook his head and used Soru to get right in front of Mizuki. "Yes, I can. I took an oath to do just that. It's all I have left, that and my comrades... and you." He leaned forward and slightly down and kissed her.

((Either she's going to return it or she's gonna smack the s**t out of him. Which'll it be? I'll have to find out this afternoon. I gotta get off for the moment.))

Somewhere in her chest, Mizuki swore she felt something tear.

What was he doing?! He wasn't supposed to be here in the first place and now he was just kissing her like it was normal to do that in a dark stadium with gallons of water right above your head-

Her concentration snapped, and the water came pouring down like rain, leaving Mizuki wet and angry. Her muscles were sore with effort of holding up the massive water globe for so long but that was the least of her worries.

"You b*****d!" she screeched, pushing him away. "You b*****d! You couldn't have just stayed above and left me alone!"

And she ran out. The doors clanged open as she fled the arena like all the demons of hell were at her heels. She ran pell mell back to the garden, where York was...seeming to have been waiting for her.

"I couldn't do it," Mizuki said, her head bowed and voice cracked, "I could have done it I was all alone...but..." she looked up at him, with tears of anger and betrayal beginning to well up in her eyes, "You let him go anyway! You know how much it meant to me to keep him away and you let him go!"

She began to pummel York, who simply chose to sit there and take the barrage of angry punches. Mizuki was crying now, howling as she gave sloppy hits to her captain. Then with a wail, she fell to her knees, where York immediately drew her up in a comforting hug, sheltering her like a father.

"It's not fair!" she wailed, like a child, "I don't want him at all but he won't leave! Why?! Why did you let him go?!"

"It's all he has Mizuki..." he whispered, "I couldn't deny him that. It's all he has."

Mizuki felt that tear again...somewhere hard in her chest and it hurt so badly. So she reacted the easiest way and kept crying, hugging onto her protective captain as she bawled shamelessly in the watery garden...
