No, no, no, no, NO!!
Aludra whined to himself, brushing his hair back hurriedly, pulling it into a tight ponytail and ignoring the cuts on his face, knowing that Vincent already well-knew that they were there. That, and as bad as it was to show up at his friend's house covered in scars and scratches both old and new, it would be a little worse -in his opinion- to show up covered in badly-applied make-up. Not that he even had time to put on make-up; he was already ridiculously late as it was!!
His face was almost permanently a beet red colour when the Greed child was thinking about Vincent, or trying to impress him in any way, or anything than involved the boy, and as he grabbed a jacket and ran out his front door to catch the bus, it was no exception. His tail flipped back and forth the entire ride, and he practically jumped off the bus when he was finally at the right stop, rushing up to Vincent's door, waiting a tap and panting softly before he finally tapped on the door, a weak, rather tired smile on his face. He desperately hoped that he would make a good impression.
But the lateness was definitely not working in his favour.

"Where is he?" Thali whined, looking to her preteen son. The elf was in a good mood, she really was just teasing. Vincent himself had asked the very same question only a few moments ago. Her son didn't return her smile.
"Don't tease me." He said, with a frown. "Why's he so late?" He demanded, shooting a glare at the door as if it was its fault for making his friend late.
Thali shrugged. "In some cultures it is considered fashionable, and often polite to be late." She remarked. "Maybe he comes from one of those homes."
Vincent didn't think so. He knew Aludra didn't have a mother, and the boy knew (or thought he knew) that fathers weren't so picky about the facts. At least, his wasn't. Then, he heard a knock at the door. He instantly brightened, and ignored his mother's laughter.
He opened the door quickly. "Hi Ludra!" He said, with a bright smile. "How are you?" He paused, realizing that he hadn't invited his friend in. "Oh, you can come in." He said, by way of invitation. He looked to Thali, who still had her back turned, shoulders shaking in silent laughter. "Mom." He said, almost sounding stern. He smiled again when she turned around. The elf forced a semi-serious look onto her face.
"You must be Aludra." She said with a smile, carefully looking the preteen up and down. Not her type at all. Hm. "Vinny's told me a bit about you. How you two are brothers, that interests me." Or, she pretended that it did.

Aludra immediately brightened when there wasn't a comment about him being late, or anything similar to worry about his lateness, his tail wagging back and forth happily. "Is good, thanks," he said before giggling a bit at the invite to enter the building, the blush already growing on his face for reasons he wasn't completely sure of. "Thanks, 'Ny," he replied, walking into the house and pulling the door shut behind himself, tipping his head at his friend's mom's actions, not completely understanding what she was doing at the time.
It was only a moment before he realized that she was laughing, and felt an odd feeling bubble up in his chest, swallowing thickly. She was laughing. At him or something else, he wasn't sure, but he was almost positive that it was at him, as anything jeering always tended to be in his mind. The smile fell off his face, one tooth biting gently at his lip nervously.
When Thali turned back toward him and smiled again, he forced himself to smile as well, though he honestly wondered what about him was so funny this time, and if there was anything that he could do to fix it. He nodded at her first statement and looked over toward Vincent, then back toward his mother, anklewing flapping fretfully. "Ah... yes. Is twin brother, really. 'Course, 'Ny got the luck of the draw s'far as traits go," he said, chuckling a bit. It was true; Vincent had Cestoloria's pretty, pretty headwings and hair, then he had... well, a nice tail and nice scales and, oh, Vincent was so much luckier than he was in appearance...

Vincent sighed, his mother was intentionally making a bad impression on his friend. He knew it, she had done this once before. Silly elf. Of course, her son was too humble to say anything about it. He shook his head at his friend in warning.
Thali studied Aludra for a moment. "I'll give you ten dollars if he doesn't deny what you've just said." She said with a grin. Humility children amused her, what could she say? She was in a playful mood, and felt like teasing. Though, maybe humility children weren't the best for teasing..
Try as he might, Vincent couldn't resist the urge to deny the compliment. "Not true." He said, looking to his friend. "You're much nicer looking." It was true, in the boy's opinion. Aludra had the nicer hair, and nice eyes, well.. Humble child was humble. He always saw the best in others, and not in himself.

The red that lined his irises flickered to the center for a short moment in time at Thali's comment, as he didn't at all appreciate his friends being made fun of, even if it was all in good humor, even if it was by his own parents. She could do all she wanted to him, make fun of him in the exact same ways, but it made him squirm to watch the same thing done to his current best friend. He didn't really know what it was, but that noble, knightly part of him that was buried so deep down inside of him couldn't help but want to make sure nothing bad whether emotionally or physically happened to his friends.
He looked over when Vincent did, in fact, deny the statement and gave him a soft smile, before looking back up at Thali, reaching into his back pocket to fish out a wallet, and from that pulled a ten dollar bill, fingers tightening slightly around the bill, though his Humility side made sure to start pushing the arm outward so he held the ten out toward Thali. "'Case you meant a two-way bet," he stated, sounding a bit forced; that would be the Greed side making sure it wasn't completely forgotten.
"'Sides, is glad that 'Ny denied the comment, should be glad, too," he stated firmly. "Humility is a great personality trait when properly applied. Next to Liberality, Humility is a required trait to a knight, such as those in medieval tales," he said, sounding almost prideful in an attempt to protect his friend from his own mother, which was rather awkward. He scratched gently at a scar on his cheek. "Though still doesn't think 'Ludra looks nicer..." he murmured, smiling at Vincent. "Thank you for thinking so."
Hey, who would'a known; he was actually learning from his father.

Vincent was shaking his head, a small smile spreading across his lips. "Lu, she doesn't want your money." He said, in explaination. "Teasing--well, it's her way of saying she likes you." He glanced at his mother before rolling his eyes. "Mom, you think you can be a little nicer?"
"Aw, Vinny.." Thali began. She was just having fun. It wasn't every day that she ran into someone so fun to tease.
"Mom."
"Fine." They elf rolled her eyes, and pushed Aludra's offered ten away with a delicate hand. "Vinny's right. You keep it." She said, with a smile. "I know all about humility, it is one of the best traits. Jesus himself was humble. I can't imagine any virtue better."
"Because the entire family's vain." Vinny muttered, in Aludra's direction.

Aludra took Vincent's comment with absolute seriousness, making sure to pull back the bill at the first excuse he got to keep it, putting it back in the wallet and stuffing that back into his pants. Aludra blinked his tri-coloured eyes over at Vincent curiously, not completely understanding what the other meant. "Teasing... means... like?" he asked, frowning softly. "Doesn't make sense," he said with a shake of his head, shrugging off Vincent's offer with a quiet argument. "Doesn't need to be nicer. Is fine."
Which, as with any preteen, meant that it definitely was not fine.
Aludra nodded in agreement with the reply from Thali, eyes widening a bit at Vincent's comment. Was his entire family really vain...? Huh... that would be a difficult-to-handle scenario, being how he was. But he supposed his family wasn't exactly humble either, were they? He looked over at Vincent, feeling his face turn a darker pink as his tail reached out once more to brush against Vincent's and he jerked it back, wrapping it around the ankle that didn't have a wing anymore, where it fell against the ground, having grown a little too long for his body at this point.
He gave Vincent a bit of a smile and chuckled softly. "Was talking about garden other day. Can see?"

Vinny shrugged. "It doesn't really make sense to me either." The preteen admitted, before leaning towards Ludra's ear. "Dad says it's just how elves are--I've gotten used to it." Not that Thali teased her children--no. Well, not Vincent anyway. She wanted to boost the ego she knew he didn't have.
Thali frowned slightly at Vinny's words. She had tried very hard to keep her... well, egotistical self on the lay low. It hadn't seemed to have worked. "Alright, Vinny, you show your friend the garden. I'll set out some cookies." The elf walked into the kitchen, before glancing back at her son. "Go on, Vin." She said.
Vinny rolled his eyes and led Aludra to the french doors that led to their backyard. "See?" He said with a shrug, as if he'd seen it a thousand times--and he had. Lilacs, daffodils, roses, lillies, star shaped blue flowers. There were large apple trees, and a cherry tree--a veggie garden in one corner. Pumpkins, corn, peas, and raspberries? They looked to be the odd man out.
"Mom's garden. I just help sometimes. I'm sorry you didn't get to meet Dad or Josh--you wouldn't like Sammi or Reiya. They're toddlers... And make a lot of noise. Dad's pretty nice. He doesn't tease as much as Mom. Josh... Well, he's my older brother. He's allowed to tease."

Aludra watched the small interaction briefly, waving his tail back and forth before yawning widely, covering his mouth and flushing gently in embarrassment. His remaining anklewing fluttered a bit and he nodded, excited, and followed Vincent outside, not completely sure what to expect. Anything from his 'father's' garden to the entire garden store, he didn't know where it would rest in the middle or if it would be even better than either of those.
Upon getting outside, he had to agree on that last option, eyes widening slightly. It was definitely nicer than any 'garden' or anything similar that he'd ever seen before. He smiled a bit and stepped further outside, tri-coloured eyes roaming over everything in the garden, tail flicking back and forth excitedly. He looked back at Vincent and chuckled, feeling much more relieved now that he wasn't under the eye of Vincent's mother, who, as all parents tended to do, made him nervous as all hell.
"Is... impressive," he said simply, still a bit in awe of all of the different plants and such. He looked back toward Vincent and smiled a bit as he explained his family. "Is alright; doesn't mind not meeting them," he smiled, laughing softly. "Actually, 'Ludra tends to get along with toddlers better than adults a lot of times."
He nodded a bit, starting to walk slowly around the large garden, tail waving back and forth a bit as he did so, sniffing at some of the different flowers. He chuckled a bit at the comments about the rest of Vincent's family and smiled slightly. "'Ludra has no older brothers. Has younger brother, though, but doesn't tease 'cause Hale is deaf. Plus, his biological dad is really, really scary," he replied, laughing in amusement. "Huh... doesn't think Ny has ever met little brother and sister, huh? Hale'n'Coren?"

Vincent's eyes widened. "Really? I tend to get along better with people my age--Sammi and Reiya are nice, but.. Well Sammi's got a temper, and Reiya.. she kind of goes with whatever Sammi does." He explained with a shrug. "Sammi nicknames everyone she meets, too." He paused, looking over the garden again. "You want some lylacs?" He asked. "For your dad or something? Maybe you can take some home for Adelle?"
The preteen paused again to think his friend's question. He hadn't known Aludra had younger siblings--just that he had a rather bossy, loud older sister that'd had a baby. "No, I don't think I have. I've seen Adhara though." He shrugged. "Maybe you can introduce me to them? I'd like to see your place sometime. Afterwards, I can introduce you to my siblings, if you like."

Aludra blinked in mild surprise, for the reversed reason of Vincent's own surprise. A soft chuckle fell from behind his lips and he nodded a couple times. "Around little kids is less... stressful. Not so worried about how he looks or how he's acting or what else he's doing that probably looks stupid to Lirona--" Aludra jerked his rant to an abrupt stop, the red quickly receding from his wide tri-coloured eyes. A laugh once again graced the air and he looked away, flushing once more and shaking his head. "Less pressure to be 'perfect', 'n' less teasing if someone's not."
He opened his mouth to respond to the question about taking some lilacs home. Unfortunately, no words came out, resulting in a gentle, warning snarl to his brain. 'You were so quick to spill everything just a couple minutes ago, stupid, why can't you even talk now?' he heard echo through his head, and shook it lightly, pink locks of hair scattering across his face.
"Would love to take some lilacs back home for family members, thank you," Aludra said hesitantly, giving Vincent the best smile that he could manage under the berating, obnoxious grate of his conscious mind's voices. Aludra nodded a couple times, a real smile leaving the false one behind at the idea of Vincent coming over to his house, even if it was just to meet his crazy siblings. "That would be fun. If you want, Noah could organize a get-together thing, and we could get all the meeting over at the same time," he said, chuckling, it obviously having been some kind of a joke. "Would love to meet siblings, though. 'Ludra could watch them sometime, maybe...?"

"I guess that's true," Vinny nodded in quick agreement. "They're loud, but they're nicer than bigger kids. "But my friends aren't like that. They don't pressure me to do anything, and they don't tease if I mess up." He shrugged. "Sammi and Reiya are different, though. Sammi gives nicknames depending on what a person looks like, since she can't pronounce most names. She calls me 'Ny', like you do. She calls people with pointed ears 'Kitty', and people with wings, birds, sometimes if she's learning a new word when she meet sthe person, she calls them that... Reiya's more quiet and reserved..."
Vinny blushed slightly when he realized he was rambling. He always seemed "A get-together would be nice, Ludra. Then we can hang out afterward. Maybe go see a movie? Or hang out at the park?" He gave his friend a smile. "Sure, you could watch them... I'll ask mom when she needs a babysitter, alright? She likes to take a break now and then--even though she's on break right now. She's a teacher."
