Annalee sat in the garden portion of the park near her home, awaiting an old friend of hers. She had recieved notification via a memo that Syd Telenment wanted to see her about getting his affairs in order before going into military detail again, and that she had some things of his to care for before he left. It was around midday, and the rains from yesterday left the air with a fresh smell, along with the fragrant perfume of the flowers.
She only hoped she did not have to wait long, for as much as she loved this place, it was not something that hold fond memories for her.

Syd made his way with post haste to the garden with all urgency. It would not be long before he would have to report to his post again, to fight for his people and his homeland. All of his charges were with him, and while they were many, they were not aware of what was to happen. Kima herself was confused, she did not know why she was going where she was going, only that she was going somewhere with pretties.

Annalee saw the car pull up with many beings inside, not all of them understanding why they were at this particular park. Unsure of why he had brought so many, Anna began to worry and made her way over to it with haste. Something worried her. There was something different about this.

Syd parked the car and got out. He smiled, went over to her, and embraced her. It had been such a very long time since his friend had been in contact with him, and he was glad to be talking with her now.
"I will be going back to Laroque soon. My people need me now." He said, with a tinge of sadness in his voice.
Elise did not understand, until it hit her like a ton of bricks. She was the first out of the car, and fell to her knees in a near sob when she heard the news. Some of the others helped the smaller ones out of the car, and had trouble holding back their tears when they heard the news. They did not want some of the smaller ones to be frightened of what they were hearing.

Annalee looked almost in sheer horror when she heard the news. She did not understand it...she saw his children for christ sakes! What would happen to them? Who would care for them? Then it dawned on her...she would be taking care of his children. She did not know what to say. She started to cry a little too, but only because her best friend was going back to war. She knew that this may be the last time she saw him alive, but she bit her tongue at such a thought. She did not want to frighten the others more than what had already happened.
In a much panicked voice, she asked the pivotal question: "Am I to care for your many children?"

Syd smiled with a tear beginning to swell in his eye as he nodded a yes.
"They will not be able to come with me. I am sorry to do this to y..." He was about to finish what was already a tough sentence for him to say, when he was interrupted by Elise tugging on his shirt and screaming.
"I'll go with you Syd, I have no fear when I'm at your side!" She screamed. It was clear that she would be the hardest to dissuade.
"But dearie, I...I...I'll keep you as safe as I possibly can." Syd said, finally accepting that he would not be able to dissuade his charge at all.
At that point, Mirai spoke out as well. "I'll stay and look after the children."
Syd nodded in agreement, and then turned at last to his oldest and most faithful friend. "Cerean, you know I do not ask you for anything, but will you follow me."
The noble creature only said in quiet dignity: "You already know the answer to that one, old friend. I'll follow you to whatever end we may take."
With that, Syd smiled and giggled a little. "The makings of a fine unit. I'm very pleased to have you all at my side. Looks like you'll be having not as many to worry about." With that, he handed her the keys to his home and what would be all of his possessions here.

Annalee caught the keys in a very shaky hand. She did not know how she would deal with as many children as what she would be dealing with, but she could make due. She was more worried about the house. It was cramped, but it was manageable. She would need to hire builders and....wait, didn't Syd teach her most of what she knew of magic anyway? She could build a new wing on the house if she needed to anyway. And she was sure the neighbors would not mind it, nor was there the issue of shortages of building material.
While it could be fun, she was still worried about so many mouths to feed. Syd never had that problem, but she was not Syd. She had much to question, but then her maternal instinct kicked in. She would care for these children, and she'd do so so damn well that they wouldn't need to worry about a thing.

Syd saw the fire in her eyes, and grew pleased. He knew that he had made the right choice when he chose to place his charges in her care, and that was important. He wanted someone that would genuinely love them for who they were as individuals, and he knew her well enough that he knew she would do that. With his greatest fears laid to rest, he smiled brighter, and took Kima into his arms. Making his way back over to Anna, he handed his daughter over to her, more tears forming than had previously. Kissing her forehead, he said his personal goodbye to her, and then turned to face Anna.
"She will need my sword...I have the feeling about that. Make sure to keep it for that long." He said, with a wink and a smile.
With that, he grabbed his bags from the back of the car he would no longer need, and took his remaining charges over to a waiting taxi to take him to a ship headed for his homeland. His remaining charges were in for a real treat there, as they had never seen the beauties of Laroque, nor sailed the skies on the back of a dragon. He took one last look at his family he would be leaving for war, and told the driver to take his leave.

Anna could barely wave goodbye to him before he was boarded onto a taxi for what would become his future. With that, she kneeled before what remained of the family he had to leave behind, and began to acquaint herself with each of their names and faces. She would make it a point to remember everything, but she would never forget Kima. She was Syd's pride and joy, and she made him happiest of all. She would have to do something special for the youngling to make her feel truly at home with her new Mom.
Kima simply stared at the taxi with her eyes beginning to water. "Poppa? Poppa?" she cried, struggling to get out of the grown woman's arms and chase after the car, but to no avail. It had sped off, leaving them behind in it's dust. The tears came quickly then, and Anna held her close to comfort her before putting her in her carseat and heading to Syd's home. (her's would never hold THAT many people.)
