I am 95% certain I can do short-range (within talking distance) telepathy and I am 100% sure that if I do have telepathy, I have little or no control over it. How do I control telepathy and increase my range?

i have the same problem and i was able to extend the distance i can use it to across the usa and i was able to do that by having someone i really care about always stay at one point and then i started moving away from them till i could barely hear them or to where they could barely hear me then from that point i started adding energy to the task and sooner or later it will come easier to where you can move farther back and try again. if you keep at that for awhile you might be able to go farther

Hey, something I can talk about more from experience than research!!!
So, practice is definitely called for if you're having trouble keeping your thoughts to yourself. Back when I first started, I made myself a classic Zener deck with normal index cards and practiced with my friend on the noisy school bus. About two months in, we could do the entire deck without missing or getting headaches. It was pretty sweet.
Some notes on honing sending/receiving telepathy skill:
1.) The more vividly you can see the image, the easier it is to send. Just thinking "nine of clubs" sometimes isn't enough. You need to see the card, put together an amusing image involving nine clubs...whatever.
2.) Working with a friend always yields better results. You already have a connection to them, and they're usually more trusting and willing to open their mind to you. Just don't betray their trust; you want them to stay your friend.
3.) Receivers need to be open to anything, no matter how ridiculous it may seem in your mind. Often we deny our first impressions, the real ones, and make something up. This also seems to happen with psychometry.
4.) I sometimes put a trigger, especially when I'm close, to tell them I've sent it. You can decide that amongst yourselves.
Now, as for the Zener deck: take 25 index cards, and put five of each of these symbols:
Circle, Square, Star, Wavy Lines, Cross (equal armed, usually, not the Christian one)
Make sure you can't see the symbol on the other side; if you can, decorate the back so the symbol is obscured. Send, receive, switch roles, and have fun. Oh, and stop when your head starts to hurt. You won't get anywhere if you keep going after that.

the only telapathy i can do is very close range and to my cat, i never tried it on a human before, but uncontrollably thought out loud and a human said it
