I've heard good and bad things about the arcane tree. Right now I'm specced pure fire with focus magic added on, and doing about 3.5k dps in a combination of Ulduar ten, Naxx 25, and Naxx 10 gear (I REALLY need to upgrade my trinkets and belt, but upgrades refuse to drop)
Would switching to pure arcane be at all beneficial to me? Or is the difference between the two trees really just a matter of opinion? I myself really love my fire spec, but if arcane is that much better...

well what i did was when i got my duel spec training i was all 3,in dungeon i was fire, BG's i was frost ,and just plain questing i was arcane
but iwould go with arcane becuase it reduces the mana cost of your spells

Mana is not an issue here. I have never run out of mana as fire spec. The question is, which does more DPS?

I'm going to wait for someone else's opinion to get a second or even third opinion on this, because careful experimentation has already proven that arcane fire is more dps than fire frost, although others I know swear otherwise, and so I'd like to get more than one opinion.

If you had a head on your shoulders to level up go with Arcane/Fire if you like instance go with Frost(Blizzard built) and if you just want to kill and mock people on how low is ure mana usage go arcane.

I've heard that Arcane/Frost is the way to go. But then again I know someone that does sick dps using Arcane/Fire.

Ahh I am surprise you talked about arcane frost not alot of people say there good but they are. Arcane/Frost combo is high ranked for mobbing attacks like to do massive damage without needing water all the time that is why people likes it. For example if you hock clensing you get to use blizzard mana free.

fire does more dps, only time I see arcane do more is when they pot up and pop cooldowns

one of my friends has a mage and he hates the arcane tree. he likes to use fire for raiding and frost for PVP.

Depends on your gear.. from what you are saying i think Fire would be the best for you.
