As you can see, there have been substantial changes made to several of the Wizarding World of Gaia subforums. For the most part, related policy changes on new thread placements are obvious and the moving of threads should have come about without much confusion; however, the issue of "Fanthread vs. Profile" may have some members puzzled.
Here is the breakdown for interested parties:
For the Wizarding Community Sticky, The Big Desk
Fanthreads are topics dedicated to something in particular (such as a character, a place, a storyline - everything from Alohomora to Zonko's Joke Shop.) In this forum, they can be devoted to anything regarding the guild or Harry Potter.
For the Guildverse Discussion Sticky, The Big Desk
Profiles are threads containing additional information regarding a specific character, family, location, or another facet of the guild universe. They often offer pictures, trivia, backstories, and discussion regarding their topic to better represent it to fellow guild members.
While there are some major similarities between fanthreads and profiles (due to their mutual providing of information and backstories) there are also some big differences. If you are uncertain of where to place your thread, take a moment to consider these questions:
• What is your thread's main purpose? To provide information, or to initiate fangirling?
• Does your thread fully encompass your character's backstory? Does it provide key information other roleplayers should know?
• Is your thread primarily serious and informative, or does it have a more fangirlish feel?
Generally speaking, information-oriented threads (even if they have a list of fans) are considered profiles, and threads gushing about how gorgeous a character is would instead be considered a fanthread even if it does provide additional information.
