It was late in the day as Drizzt plodded slowly through the woods, head down low, not even pausing to listen to the crickets warming up for their nightly song. Usually he would love to stalk these tiny musicians through the grasses and bushes, something he had always loved to do since he was very small. But his heart felt heavy, and even the cheerful sound of crickets couldn't bring him to raise his head. He reached a small hill and sat down on it, watching the sun redden as it made it's way toward the ground, eveloping everything in twilight. Drizzt couldn't help but feel as though he was at a moment of twilight in his life. He remembered when it had been sunny; he had had a mate, and children to raise, and how he had loved them! But now the children were all grown, and his mate had taken half of their brood and vanished, leaving no trace and no explanation. Drizzt had been confused at first, then alarmed. Had something happened to her? If not, why didn't she send word to him? Where was his other son and only daughter? Were they alright? Where had they gone? He had no answers for his two remaining sons, nor for himself. So he had been content to merely sit and wait for his love to return. But many moon-cycles had passed, more than he could count, and Alethea was still gone. After such a long time of faithfully waiting, Drizzt had recently found himself gnawed on by despair. Maybe she had just stopped loving him and was out living a new life, or maybe they were all dead, and he would never see them again. A tear trickled down his face at the thought, and as he stared out at the small view the hill offered, he closed his eyes and wondered.....in spite of his two wonderful sons, what use was it to fall in love and feel such joy, if it all ended like this?

Malaika sat perched at the top of one of the oldest trees in Namiah, watching down at all who happened to walk in her gaze. Most appeared quite content with their lives, something she could only wish and dream for. Since she had been quite young, she had seemed destined for heartbreak. From her bow and arrows that always broke, to her loves that disappeared, everything continued on in this miserable world.
She had long ago gave up on the last male to pursue her, knowing that he would not return as he had said. And once again, she was left to her own self that was growing more cynical and more distant from the word love; dispite being the reincarnation of cupid himself.

Feeling more downhearted with each passing moment, Drizzt found himself leaning heavily against the trunk of a big tree, not knowing of its occupant, looking off into the distance. Was his family out there somewhere? Did they miss him as much as he missed them? Or were they just off having fun, not even thinking about the rest of their family? He missed his daughter the most; she had her mother's coloring, and seemed destined to have males fighting over her. Were they doing that now, he wondered?
He sighed loudly and hung his head. It hardly mattered; they surely didn't want to see him, or they would have tried. Namiah was only so big, after all. Not paying too much attention to what he was doing, he began to scuff his paw in the dirt, looking blankly at the little furrows he made in the ground.

Malaika's ear twitched as she hard something below her, a sound much like another namir. Looking down, her other ear twitched. She hadn't expected another to be by her, few ever came to that particular location. She didn't make a noise, and wondered if she would be noticed

Quickly running out of space to plow the dirt with his paws, Drizzt sighed once and looked up at the sky. He looked almost straight up, which included a view of some of the leaves of the tree.....and a strange splash of white that shouldn't have been there. Blinking, Drizzt tilted his head owl-like at the patch of white, then turned his body around to look properly at what he saw to be another namir, a lovely white female that had a sad look to match his own. Remembering his manners, Drizzt cleared his throat. "I'm terribly sorry; I hope I didn't disturb you. I wasn't aware there was anyone else here.

Malaika cocked her head ever so slightly to the side as she was noticed, but that was the only movement she made. Upon hearing his voice, she slightly narrowed her eyes. There was a male down there, as the sound of his voice told her. Oh how she was beginning to grow weary of that gender all together, she had never had a good encounter with one, save for her friend Delnaku. Well, he had become a she, so that didn't really count anymore. With a soft voice that merely seemed to echo from the treetops where she lay, she called down to him. "A simple hole on the ground is not a disturbance from my point of view."

Drizzt fuond himself straining to catch the words of the female; her voice was so soft and quiet. Though as he looked up at her, he could see that her face didn't seem to match very well. Her tone was a bit flat, as though she didn't want to bother putting emotion into anything she said. He knew that feeling, or thought he did. After all, he didn't know what this female was terribly sad about; it could be a reason completely alien to him. Above all else he didn't want to assume one more thing; he was feeling more and more certain that assuming was what had gotten him so turned around to begin with. "Well, nevertheless, you WERE here first, so if you don't like my being here, do tell me and I'll leave." He hoped ferverently that she didn't tell him; at that moment, he was discovering that he really did want company, even if it was the company of a quiet female who had her own share of troubles.

Malaika sighed lightly and rested her head on her front paws. She folded her wings back agianst her body and stared down at him with unblinking eyes, as if analysing him. "Well, what is your name, if I may ask?" She said through the branched. She wondered if company would still be nice after all this time.

Feeling himself turn a little pinkish at the female's scrutinizing stare, Drizzt was at least glad that she seemed interested enough to enquire about his name instead of wanting him to leave. Already he was feeling a tiny bit better; he couldn't honestly remember the last time he had had actual company instead of just sitting around watching strangers play. "My name is Drizzt," he said politely. "And what might yours be?"

Malaika smirked lightly to herself as his slightly pink tint, and nodded. "Drizzt? It's a pleasure to meet you." Weather or not she meant it, she didn't know. He was only the 3rd male to inquire about her name after all. "I am called Malaika". She replied.

"Malaika?" Drizzt smiled as he said it, letting the word roll off of his tongue. "That's a very pretty name. And it's a pleasure meeting you too." Though he was still sorrowful, he could at least take comfort in knowing that now he knew someone else now and could look for her perhaps in the clearing where many of the namrah gathered to be social. But had she been there before? He didn't remember seeing her when he had been out, but then again, his visits were infrequent. Clearing his throat, he looked up at Malaika. "Do you come to the clearing often? I don't think I've seen you there, and I would definitely remember you if I had."

Malaika nodded once more. "I am always here, though among the tops of these trees I have always remained. I am not one for the ground without reason." She tilted her head lightly and continued to look at him as she spoke. "And I do not recognize you either, perhaps you were in a different part of the clearing than I."

Drizzt nodded in understanding; if one could fly, why bother spending much time on the ground? And that would certainly explain why he had not seen her before if she had been in the clearing; he always remembered having his eyes to the ground instead of up into the trees. When they had not been down in shyness, they had been down searching for crickets. How he had loved to chase those little creatures through the grass! Perhaps if that had remained the only thing he had loved..... Sighing a little at the inevitable rising of sad thoughts, Drizzt smiled up at Malaika. "I suppose that could be true. I wasn't one who looked up often. Do you have friends that join you up in the trees?"

Malaika shook her head solemly, thinking as she seemed to do more often about her deceased family. It was a sore subject for her, and if one was to ask her about her family she would reply none, and leave it at that. Many namrah didn't seem to have parents, but if they lacked parents, they usually had children, relatives, something related to them. She had nothing. "I have but one friend, and she cannot fly." She sighed, before continuing with a truth that seemed inevitable. "Besides, she appears to have found love, and who am I to wish to interfere with that?" Oh, she remembered when she was young and would have loved to shoot some of her love arrows and young couples to guarentee them everlasting love. But she had not been able to muster the will to do something like that in quite a long time.

Drizzt found himself perking a little at Malaika's words. Not that he was showing any sign of delight at her misfortune; rather, he was relieved at finding yet more similar ground that he could use to keep the conversation going. How silly he would look if he ran out of things to speak of to Malaika; doubtless the end of the conversation would leave them both staring back out into the sunset, a little more lonely than before. "Well, lots of times when the ones we care about decide to go their own way, we can't help but wish that they stay with us. Especially when it.....happens suddenly." The thought of his Alethea finding another namir to love in his place was enough to make Drizzt fall silent for a moment, swallowing a lump in his throat before refocusing on Malaika.
