Who: Xan, Domevlo, Xiu and Hazline When: Evening just before sunset Where: 4th of July festival in Barton Weather: Clear skies, warm and cool winds
The 4th of July. A perfect day to spend with the family however, the family seemed to be busy of all days. Xan sighed for the umpteenth time that evening as he was dragged from his hog toward the festivities taking place in Barton. There was a nice fireworks show going to take place later that night while there were many different festive games and events going on as they entered the area. Free of charge. Xan liked that!
Domevlo, however, never really paid much attention to price or exchange of funds. If there had been a gate he probably would have plowed right through it, consider the thing an obstruction in his path. His hand was firmly clasped around Xan's wrist dragging his pour guardian along. Pointing at this and that asking "what that" and "why that". There was much to learn in a crowded place like this. All the more reason after seeing an advertisement on the picture box, Domevlo demanded he be taken.
Considering it was the fourth Xan saw no reason to deny his charge. Besides he wasn't feeling much like staying indoors if no one were going to join him. Gunnar had run off with the Pocky tykes to let them mingle with their friends at the shop so why not give Domevlo the same thing though heading to the Lab was a little out of the way at this point. Well no matter perhaps they'd see some of the others floating about in the festivities. "Domo, stay close to me and don't run--" Before he could get the last of his words out of his mouth the lead frei was already disappearing into the crowd rudely pushing others out of his way as he gawked at all the different booths and stands. "--off." Xan sighed trying to keep up.

“So how are you enjoying yourself so far, Xiu?” Hazeline asked as she walked beside her floating charge. “It’s a lively event isn’t it?”
“Yes, it is,” replied Xiu with a small laugh; his rune glowing brightly as the frei fed off the innocence and positive energies of the crowd. “This is indeed a treat for me, in more ways than one. Thank you, Hazeline,”
“Oh, don’t thank me,” said Hazeline with a shake of her head. “This being the weekend and all…and besides, Joshua insisted that we attend this festival didn’t he?”
“Yes, but he has disappeared,” said Xiu a little worriedly. “Do you think we should look for him, Hazeline. He is but a young boy,”
“No, it’s fine Xiu,” said Hazeline with a laugh. It was amusing the hear Xiu calling Joshua a young boy and worrying about his safety when the frei himself was barely a year old. “Joshua has found a group of his classmates and is off with them. He would not appreciate having us following him around. We shall meet up when he’s ready. He has his cell phone with him after all,”
“Oh, alright Hazeline,” said Xiu with a smile as he floated over to a booth selling an assortment of knick-knacks. Picking up a box of sparklers, similar to the ones he had seen a few kids playing with earlier, Xiu turned to Hazeline looking a little sheepish. “I would like to be able to…play one of these Hazeline,”
“Sure, Xiu. There’s no harm in playing with a little firework now and then,” said Hazeline as she took out the required amount of notes for the sparklers.

Well even though Domo had run off he hadn't gotten far. His excitement was plaster on his face despite the mask the glow and wonder that reflected in his amber orbs spoke volumes. Xan couldn't help chuckling as he hurried to keep up with his excited charge. Darting from one booth to the next booth with curious questions for the tenders who seemed to start from the odd appearance of the lead frei. Xan followed behind giving the tenders a soft smile to indicate the frei was harmless enough...
Even as he stopped in front of a booth with fireworks, Domo quickly whirled jutting a hand out for money to exchange for the fireworks. "Want!" He demanded pointed a lanky finger toward the booth. "Domo get!" He ordered more harshly though it showed he was just eager to get his hands on all the pretty sparkle things that flickered around him. All the lights and the laughter from passerby was so different from everyday life. Why was everything so more.... fun? Domo had thought as the thin green papers were placed in his hand.
Pushing through the small line he floated to the front shoving the money at the tender before snatching a bag of sparklers... he had been so engrossed in his doings that he hadn't noticed the fair skinned Raevan also purchasing sparklers along with his guardian. He had inadvertantly pushed the poor frei clean out of his way as Domevlo tore through the packaging to get to his prize. Not very many people around were pleased with his actions but one the sparkler was lit and his eyes sparkled with child like innocence it appeared the crowd had forgiven his eagerness.
Xan could only apologize but not before noticing the fair skinned frei and his guardian. Well now... "Why hello there. My apologies if he's caused you any harm." Xan offered coming over to check on the other Raevan who had been pushed aside.

“Thank yo-,” was all Xiu had managed to say before he found himself roughly shoved aside by what appeared to be an overly eager customer. “That’s was not very nice,” muttered Xiu as he turned to give the other a disapproving frown. The frown however was forgotten when Xiu noticed that the being who had pushed him aside was none other than a raevan like himself. Although as far as physical looks were concerned, the other was about as different from Xiu as night was to day. Similar in only the colour of their hair, Xiu was reminded of both Iorek and Vyn. Iorek, for the other’s skin colour was of a grayish hue like the rock raevan while it’s eyes had black scleras; similar to that of Vyn. A human was seen coming over and apparently he was this frei’s caretaker. Perhaps he had behaved the way he did because he’s still young thought Xiu as he eyed the approaching human.
"Why hello there. My apologies if he's caused you any harm."
“No, no harm done,” replied Xiu with a polite smile. “Just pleasantly surprised to find another like myself in a place such as this,”
Hazeline, who had been just about as surprised as Xiu at the arrival of the other raevan smiled in Xan’s direction. “ We were a little shocked,” admitted Hazeline with a laugh “But it’s good to see a raevan as lively as the one you’ve got there. I’m Hazeline by the way and this is Xiu,”
“A pleasure to meet you,” said Xiu extending his hand in the manner he had seen many humans do while greeting another. “How may I address you and your raevan, sir?”

"Ah yes, my name is Thanatos but please call me Xan and this here is Domevlo, he's fairly happy with Domo." Xan offered shaking the Raevan's hand carefully before sliding aside as he gave a low whistle. This grabbed Domevlo's attention who came floating over weary that perhaps his sparklers would be taken away. Once his eyes fell on Xiu and his guardian his eyes lit up even more then before when playing with the sparkler.
A thin finger jutted out pointing at Xiu with glee. "Like me!" He offered floating closer with no qualms over personal space as he reached out to give a soft tug of the other frei's wing. "Like me like me!" He was quite happy as was obvious by his reaction.
Xan softly placed a hand on Domo's shoulder giving him a curt node. "Manners Domo... how do we greet others? Remember what I taught you."
Nodding Domevlo held out his hand in front of him. "Me... Dome'lo... what you?" He asked.

“Thanatos and…Domevlo,” repeated Xiu softly with a slight nod of his head. “Got it,”
“Domo? That’s a rather cute nickname,” said Hazeline as her eyes shifted from Xan to Domo. “ I would give Xiu a nickname but his name it rather short as it is,”
“Well, there’s nothing that could be done about it now,” replied Xiu with a soft laugh. “You named me,”
“But it was rather sudden all the same,” said Hazeline. “You were behaving like a reluctant child back then,”
“ Hazeline, you can’t…possibly blame me for that,” replied Xiu patiently. “You and Joshua were the first humans I met. Surely you can’t expect me to take to you as easily as a fish might take to the water?”
“True enough,” conceded Hazeline. “Perhaps that was quite an experience for you,”
At this, the white frei merely laughed before realizing that his one of his wings was being tugged by Domevlo. Tilting his head slightly, Xiu let out a soft laugh and flared his wings a little. “Yes, like you Domevlo and…I am pleased to meet you. I am Xiu,” said Xiu shaking the other’s hand. As he did so, Xiu realized that the other frei had only four fingers on him. This was new. All the raevans that Xiu had previously met had the usual amount of fingers, which were five on each hand in total.

Xan smiled warmly as Xiu got a hold of their names, he seemed to be a well mannered polite Raevan. It surely was interesting to meet so many different types of personalities. They truly were all different in their own special way.
Domevlo was quite different in appearance compared to some of the others he had already met. With a fairly less humanoid appearance he could come off as a monster if one were so callus to point that out. With only four fingers it set him apart immediately. He held the dull skin tone of lead with a mask the hide a mysterious appearance underneath. Xan couldn't help wondering what his charge truly looked like but he was not about to invade Domo's personal space (least he be attacked with the frei's beloved raid). But he assumed if his soul were part unicorn then there had to be an unequaled beauty that lay just under the surface. Only time would tell...
"Please meet you." Domo responded trying to get a grasp of his vocabulary. He truly detest not being able to speak as fluently as others but all in due time. He'd learn. "What that?" He asked suddenly showing Xiu the bag of sparklers he held in hand. It was all he could do to better learn about this older Raevan who was a pretty color, a light shade that was pleasant and not so bright like flowers and the sun. He liked this one.

“That looks…like a bag of sparklers to me,” replied Xiu with a smile. “And it would seem that I have one too, except that it is in a box,” said Xiu holding up his package of sparklers. “Great minds think alike, right?”
While this was going on, Hazeline turned to Xan with an amused expression. “They seem to be getting along fine. How old is Domo by the way? He sounds rather young,” said Hazeline with a hint of curiousity in her voice. “And their development is rather astounding isn’t it? I would never have guessed that most of the raevans are no older than a couple of years. Xiu himself will only be pushing a year come October,”

"Spok lar? Hokay!" Domevlo tried repeating the world wanting to broaden his vocabulary. He gave what could be considered a smile through his eyes as he pulled out a sparkler and held it to Xiu. "Play?" He offered, wanting to see the lights spit out from the stick once more.
Xan gave a low rumble in his voice as if to hum before he shrugged while giving a soft smile. "He can't be more than a few days old. I've been getting him out a lot lately more by his own demands he doesn't seem to be a homely Raevan it appears." Something Xan was getting used to, though he wasn't very homely himself outside of work and various gigs. "He's rather childlike but I think it suits him, he'll grow into his own in time." He hoped, but that was all he could think to say on that matter. "Enjoying the festivities?" He asked to switch up the subject a little and offer a light hearted conversation.

Xiu laughed. He couldn’t help it. The white frei found Domo’s child-like behaviour contagious and the manner in which the other spoke, it was just so full of life and innocence. Definitely something Xiu could get used to. Taking the offered sparkler from Domo hand, Xiu inclined his head slightly in thanks before rummaging in his own bag for a lighter that Hazeline had bought along with his own box of sparklers. Clicking the lighter a few times, Xiu managed to get a small flame going and offered it to Domo. “After you, Domevlo,” said Xiu with a smile. “Careful though, the fire’s hot,”
“Domo is that young? And he’s already learnt so much?” asked Hazeline in surprise. “He must certainly be a smart lad. And a lively one too,” said Hazeline as she observed the interactions between the raevans. “And yes, I am, thank you, Xan. It is wonderful to be out and enjoying the night, as opposed to being stuck with paperwork,”

"I take it you don't get out too much..." Xan offered wondering about Hazeline's paper work she had spoken of. "It is nice to move about. I've been free as of late so I'm spending the down time with Domevlo to get him better acquainted with his surroundings. He's so full of life and full of curiosity." Smiling as his mint gaze slipped over to Domo and Xiu for a moment before he commented again. "So what is it that you do; if I may ask?"
With the guardians in light conversation, Domevlo was having his own form of conversation. Through much interrogation. "Hot?" He repeated watching as the sparklers came to life spitting out their jubilation. "Fire... what that? What mean hot?" He questioned poking at the spitting sparks but finding they tingled rather then burned. He had yet to experience what being burned was like... though fire ants had taught him about getting bitten. A pain.

“No, not that much I’m afraid,” admitted Hazline sheepishly. “I’m more of the stay at home kind. Oh, and my main job would be researching in a plant biotechnology company but since it’s a little understaffed at the moment and there are deadlines to reach… work sometimes get taken home,” replied Hazeline with a shrug that said ‘Well, that’s life’. “My not so main job would be looking after a bookstore. It’s good that Xiu loves books or I guess he’d be a very bored raevan,” said Hazeline with a slight shake of her head.
“Hot?” asked Xiu with some measure of amusement. “No, I don’t think they are. They are much too tiny to do much harm aren’t they, Domevlo? But umm…as to fire…,” Xiu replied looking thoughtful. “I guess it would be…ah…how do you say it? When there’s something that reacts to oxygen easily is burned, light and heat is release. The light and heat makes fire and hot…,” Xiu smiled as he said this. Placing the spent sparkler aside, Xiu began rubbing the palm of his hands together before reaching out and holding Domo’s free hand. “Feel this? This is warm. Hot is…a lot much, much warmer. Until it hurts,” said Xiu hoping that that would answer the young frei’s question.

"Well at the very least you do get out. And you have a job which provides a steady income so it seems like things are going nicely for you, miss." Xan offered as friendly reminder. "I tend to get work where it's required. Freelance work as a pianist that is. If someone needs me I come to call otherwise, work is slow so I find odd jobs in Aekea to fill my pockets or hold lessons for the kids." He scratched the scruff of his chin in thought watching the two frei as they interact. "Been trying to find something productive for Domo to do but he seems to like exploring rather then sitting in front of a piano." He shrugged letting that thought fall.
Domo watched curiously then felt the heat which was much warmer but it didn't hurt. The idea of something hotter than that would hurt didn't quite cross his mind. "Not sure." He muttered finding the topic boring now that he felt he could figure it out later on his own. He would just turn on the stove and see since Xan told him the stove thing was hot. There! Problem solved. Now to figure out something more fun to do... it was at that time there were fireworks being set off in the distance. Soon they boomed into the sky catching the unicorn frei's attention. Pointing like a child he gazed with wide eyes at the sparkling lights. "W-what .... what that!" He asked with awe; a glow in his eyes so bright you could practically see him smiling under his mask.

Hazeline listened to Xan with some measure of surprise. She had not expected Xan to be a pianist. A contractor or something perhaps but then again, Hazeline guessed that…why not? Perhaps Xan was a romantic at heart or something. Anyway, her college friend used to say that men who played pianos were sexy. Hazeline guessed that that was up to one’s opinion as well.
“Well, Domo’s young. Most young kids prefer being up and about,” replied Hazeline amiably. “Give him time and he might exhibit some musical talent…,”
Just then the guardian phone rang and Hazeline saw that it was Joshua’s number. “He must be done,” said Hazeline giving Xan a apologetic look. “Sorry that our meeting couldn’t be longer. Domo and Xiu seem to be getting along rather well too. Perhaps I could have your number? We could arrange for them to meet sometime,”
Xiu chuckled at the grey frei’s blunt reply. It was in a way amusing to be with such direct raevan. That and…Xiu felt almost like an older sibling or something with Domo around. Folding his wings neatly behind his back, Xiu turned to the direction the grey frei had indicated and gave a pleased exclamation. “It’s fireworks, Domevlo! Look! There!” laughed Xiu matching Domo’s excitement with his own as a particularly large display of fireworks blossomed into the night’s sky. “It’s simply lovely isn’t it?”
However, the raevans’ joy was cut short when Hazeline indicated that it was time they leaved. Turning to Domevlo, Xiu gave the other a regretful farewell wave. “I guess I must go now, Domevlo. See you around soon? I’ll call,” promised the white frei as he turned to leave. “Goodbye and it was nice meeting you!”
